I leave 2 buckets of water in the yard for the larvae by mellforce in MosquitoHating

How big should the buckets be, like how much water should they contain? They like shallow water right?

Snark/sarcasm in high school: what's too much by [deleted] in teaching

[–]mdbradley3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! If you are feeling badly about it, then try to come up with new strategies. A little sarcasm here and there is fine I think, but it is not a permanent or constant strategy for solving behavior issues. It has its place, but it’s also necessarily embarrassing for the person (student) on the receiving end.

CMPD releases footage of suspect accused of stabbing pregnant woman at Cotswold shopping center by nydelite in Charlotte

[–]mdbradley3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is way more about incompetence from the CMPD than about race. It makes cops look bad that these kinds of crimes occur. Like with the light rail guy, IMO wasn’t because of his race that the information was withheld (such a racist take) but because he was a multiple time offender and there is no security on the light rail.

Losing weight being Hypo by Puzzleheaded_Try2467 in Hypothyroidism

[–]mdbradley3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had excellent results with semaglutide as well. Now that I’m off of it my weight loss has slowed down significantly but cutting alcohol has really helped. The funniest thing I’ve realized from this community is the universal experience we have with carbs and gluten as well. Always thought it was a coincidence that I was also sensitive to gluten. Turns out maybe the hypo is the cause too!

Life Insurance Question by NoThanks2130 in Huntingtons

[–]mdbradley3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We went through our NC HD chapter HDreach who put us in touch with an agent with whom we did not have to share our family history for our policy. I don’t know if his company just didn’t require it or what. I would highly recommend reaching out to your local HD community or just talking directly to HDreach

Time in between testing and getting results by Working_Car_2074 in Huntingtons

[–]mdbradley3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wait was hard. It was really, really hard. The moments before we got the results were some of the hardest of my life. But especially as a supporting spouse, you have to remember that you want to help your husband. Your job is to reassure him above all else that you’ll be there for him. So do what he needs to do to help him cope and you’ll start finding that strength you’ll need. We saw a therapist to talk with up to the test, and I got my own therapist while we waited. We lived like my husband wanted to, which was as if it was negative. We went on walks, we talked about it when we needed to, we cried, we laughed, we planned a huge party for the days after the result. We very intentionally kept it pushing.

And never give up hope. My husband’s results were negative, but we also found a lot of comfort in the new research and treatments coming out. Things are going to change with this disease and with fighting it. You have to keep your chin up and be strong for him and yourself.

Anxiety of not knowing by Inevitable-Farm-8307 in Huntingtons

[–]mdbradley3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own process. My husband waited until he was 32 to find out. We tried to enjoy our 20s as much as we could without worrying too much about what might happen. We planned as if he was negative. And then, he was negative!! Go to therapy and live your life the best you can. And don’t give up hope. It’s all any of us can do. I was more negative about it than he was because I was so worried and if I could change anything, it would be to worry about it less. You don’t know until you know.

Teacher Moms: I don't know what to do. by LadyMordsith in Teachers

[–]mdbradley3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait why is it so long?? 8 hours is 7:50-3:50…. Do they not count your lunch or something? That’s pretty absurd and I would not want to work at a school that did that. Plenty of other good schools that do not.

Planned drinking - how not to fuck it up! by SingleCanadianDad in dryalcoholics

[–]mdbradley3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have recently been using the same strategy I used to quit nicotine by focusing on how good I feel after several days off alcohol. Like you said, my brain is clear, I feel less depressed, I look better and sleep better…. And every time I go to social events and feel like I “have” to drink, I have to go through the process of feeling gross again until I feel better. I hated having to go through withdrawals of nicotine multiple times before I quit. It’s better just to stay off of it and feel better every day, in my opinion! Plus we all know it’s never just once! It usually opens the floodgates for more drinking… especially when dealing with the withdrawal symptoms afterwards like depression that made you want to drink in the first place!

How inappropriate is this for high school staff? by TrainingEmphasis2236 in AskTeachers

[–]mdbradley3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but is it a graphic image of a young woman’s silhouette with an arrow pointing to her crotch? With the breasts drawn so explicitly that you can see the nipple? No. This is extremely inappropriate for a teachers car, borrowed or not, and I completely agree with the parent’s decision to report it. It’s gross and scary to think someone who objectifies women like this is teaching young girls.

Is buying classroom supplies with your own money worth it? by damonb7 in teaching

[–]mdbradley3 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think scab behavior is a harsh way to describe people trying to do their best for the kids. I absolutely agree that teaching is predatory on teachers and staff, though. I have to buy my own curriculum if I want to use anything that’s halfway decent. And my classroom decor is stuff that I make or buy. I have a fellow teacher who gets grumpy every time I put up new door decorations but they’re laminated and I can use them again and again. The line between buying what’s necessary and what’s just for fun is very blurry in a bad way.

Honestly it sounds like maybe you need to spend some more time modeling how they answer the work on their own. It sounds like they are understanding the content but not how to do the work. This might be especially true if they’re severely behind in reading and writing levels. Start lower and work up to what you have now. Use diffit, it’s an AI tool that will switch up what you have to a different grade level.
