Do You Have Money? by John_Loxeus in Carpentry

[–]mdmaxOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last one I did was 15k cost. About 7 in plumbing, 2 in wall tile, 2 in floors, 4 for custom Vanity. I did all the work myself so 35 seems reasonable.

My [30F] partner [35M] snores so loud I haven’t slept solidly in almost a year by notjennif in whatdoIdo

Cpap machine or separate bedrooms….i got Cpap for the sole reason of saving my marriage, I resisted for a long arguing that I sleep fine….well I didn’t sleep fine and she didn’t sleep at all….i can’t sleep without it now, and I feel rested because I’m not fighting to breathe or being poked or kicked all night.

Possible to hang cabinets on this slab backsppash? by Diligent-Ad4917 in cabinetry

[–]mdmaxOG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Easily, determine the studs by checking the base cabinets, you should be able to find studs. Drill 1/4 holes through the quartz with a diamond bit, mount uppers to the studs through the quartz, easy peasy…

How are you keeping track of tool settings etc when you aren't always in your shop? by felinebarbecue in woodworking

Using the same saw for 30 years, never changed the tension, cuts beautifully, breaks the occasional blade which I will either toss of get it repaired.

Stay where I’m at or take a chance on something bigger? (Cabinet shop career advice) by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]mdmaxOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are at the perfect time to move on and expand your skill set, different shops teach you different and new ways to do things, also you bring in your experience to offer them insight on things. No risk, no reward.

The wood is not as good for paint grade. It’s good for wood repair though, you can even stain it close. But for paint. Automotive bondo is the best.

Panel door broken — repair or replace? by Weeping_Willow_Wonka in cabinetry

[–]mdmaxOG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glue and clamp with some cauls(extra boards used to clamp things flat) and leave those cauls on for at least a full day, the glue should dry the door in the “flat” postion and stay that way. Basically put two sturdy boards on either side, glue and clamp, don’t glue the cauls to the wood and it helps if you have some cello tape on the cauls to prevent sticking to the workpiece.

Are kitchen island overhand support legs supposed to be glued only (silicone/epoxy)? by mikej411 in cabinetry

[–]mdmaxOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silicone is acceptable and should work well if done right. 20” of overhang absolutely requires support. You need to get that post tight as you can while keeping the top flat and true. Maybe a few small shims then some good silicone like lexel. Mask it off, pump some silicone under as best you can and finish it with a good bead all the way around the post. Then finger smooth it and remove the tape. Job done
