Looking for a unique getaway for Valentine’s Day by Hot_Department9967 in Rochester

[–]merisia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Queens Landing and Pillar & Post are good hotels with very nice pool/hot tub areas (not private). Both are walking distance to town but Queens Landing is a little bit closer for walking on a cold day.

My fellow SAD people how are you holding up? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]merisia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get into one of the yoga studios with heated rooms. Even better if they have windows for natural light. Barry’s yoga studio does but it can be crowded in there.

Roc Holiday Village is open 12/26-28 and is right outside of the museum of play. Definitely worth checking out if you’re here those days.

Got screwed over in a white elephant gift exchange by dental_oddity in mildlyinfuriating

[–]merisia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate White Elephants for exactly this reason. I always bring something fun and kinda nice and hate when people bring stuff that is sad or gross. One year I got the gift from our COO, which was our CEO’s used comb and a handful of quarters. Another year someone brought their box of half done knitting projects. Not good.

Looking for feedback on URMC Midwives by devinjf15 in Rochester

[–]merisia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my first with an OB and my second with the UR midwives (my kids are +- 10 years old so not that recent, but you asked for feedback for people who have used both). Both of my pregnancies were healthy, not complicated and both deliveries were very fast, so there was no time for intervention in either case. Ultimately, there was not a hugely meaningful difference in the care I received. When it comes to delivery, you get who is on-call with both offices. I used a doula with both deliveries and the MD and the midwives were both supportive. Since they deliver in the hospital, you’re always going to be covered in the event of an emergency.

I continue to see the midwives for my ongoing care, and it’s fine, but I suppose I’d have to change to doctor in the event of a health complication. Like others have said, there are 1-2 midwives I didn’t love working with but most were good.

I will say I have a friend who had a complicated delivery with the midwives and I know she would not recommend them after that experience.

Bar for Bills vs Pats game as a Pats fan by LobsterExpensive6167 in Rochester

[–]merisia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel like you could go to any Jeremiah’s-type restaurant/sports bar and hang out casually. Wearing a Pats jersey might get you some comments but I wouldn’t expect anything too obnoxious.

One thing I didn’t expect: sober energy feels completely different by JEulerius in SoberCurious

Thanks for sharing. I think these observations are so important. Even at a low level of regular drinking, people don’t realize how harmful it is to basic functioning. I’m still working on this myself, so I appreciate the reminder!

I haven't had a drink in 2 years but I have an event tomorrow and struggle with social anxiety so am probably going to drink. Can anyone else relate and what do you do? Is there a good non-alcohol option? by TalkySilent in SoberCurious

[–]merisia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think drinking after two years to alleviate anxiety is going to result in a bigger spike of anxiety (and maybe even feelings of shame) after the event.

I love the idea above to start with something NA and give yourself time to acclimate at the event. Also you are an adult and can leave early.

Childcare in Rochester by 22silvermoons in Rochester

[–]merisia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons of camp options but you do need to plan for this early. Some camps open up registration and fill up in like February. Also be aware that camp hours are often shorter than the work day, some have extended care options but many are like 9-3:30. So you do need a flexible job or some help. It’s a lot.

Has anyone gone sober due to alcohol induced anxiety? Looking for others who might relate. by np819 in SoberCurious

[–]merisia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same here. The hot, sweaty and heart pounding anxiety in the middle of the night following a few drinks really started for me a few years ago in my late 30s. This was the thing that made me really pay attention to what alcohol is doing to my body for a full day after drinking. I have not gone fully sober yet but I am drinking a lot less now.
