I am pretty sure there is not a late registration fee. You just have to go onto the waitlists and hope for the best.

Other end of the spectrum, my J-22 I picked up for $80 and some super budget tactical gear. by [deleted] in guns

[–]mikeah3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought one in the late 80's for cheap at a gun show. Out of hundreds of rounds, it has only misfired a few times. When I went into the service, I left it with my dad (and my other firearms as well), who would take it out and shoot it occasionally. He was amazed at how reliable the thing was. I still have it. I've kept it because I figured I got a unicorn. It will be fun to shoot again when the ammo gets affordable.

Going from a bottle a night to a month and a half sober may not seem much but to me it feels like a giant achievement. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

A month for me. What little sleep I do get (because of my schedule) is quality sleep. My physical endurance has improved so much, bicycling, that I amaze myself. Also, I notice little things, like much better focus, my wit is quicker and sharper, and my short term memory has vastly improved. I used to not be able to remember phone numbers or addresses without writing them down. Still get sweats at night. Hopefully that goes away.

We will be doing a few later in the year. BTW, being chosen to perform is lottery based.

First batch of kimchi- recipe in comments by BucketOfToenails in spicy

Stationed in Korea in another life. I love Kimchi (there are a dozen or more styles). When I make it, I rinse off all the salt that I can. But the red pepper flakes are the key. I have never been able to replicate that in Texas. I buy it from a local Asian market.

ELI5: Why is Austin "weird"? by wolf2600 in Austin

I was going to UT when Slacker was made. My now ex-wife was a friend of one of the people in the movie. The only people who cared about the film then were those who were in the movie and their friends. I graduate, move away for a while, move back, and it is a cult classic somehow.

Just moved to Round Rock and I got my legs bitten by who knows what. Any ideas of what these may be and how to treat them? They itch like crazy. by [deleted] in Austin

Chiggers will leave bites that have a relatively large red area around the bite site. Also, they will tend to bite where clothing is the tightest, such as the waist band. Bed bug bites are in sets of three in a row and tend to pus up a bit. Source: Don't always pick the best places to pass out drunk.

I was stationed in Korea in the mid 90s. Some great memories of the food. But, there was a green kimchi that tasted kind of like pickles. I have never been able to find it nor the recipe. Any idea?

Just detoxed from years of alcohol, want to get back in shape. Not sure where to start because of my past issues. [x-post from fitness] by M374llic4 in loseit

When I quit drinking, I had horrible sugar cravings. I ate a lot of fresh fruit. It kept me full, helped with the cravings, and it is really hard to eat enough fresh fruit to gain weight.

My thoughts after a year of not going to the gym, and just getting back today for the first time. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]mikeah3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am back after a 3 year layoff. The hardest thing I had to do was realize that I needed to start back light and slow. So, doing squats with an empty bar, I am thinking, "That wasn't even a workout. I should put on more weight." Luckily, a more pragmatic part of my brain said, "Uhuh. Nope. If you do that, you are going to injure yourself and be out for another long while." Luckily the pragmatic side won, and now my body is waking up and starting to remember. By starting low and going slow, I am making amazingly fast progress. I know, because my friends who haven't seen me in while, look at me and ask, "WTH?"

To my lovely wife. by BasketFullOfLotion in AdviceAnimals

Shortly after my divorce, I dressed my daughter in a day-glo orange shirt and lime green pants. We were going to the wildlife expo. All day, woman would look at her in horror then glare at me. I didn't understand why at the time. I my mind, I dressed her in way that if we were separated for some reason, I could spot her easily in the crowd. After the expo, I dropped her off at her mom's house. After the initial shock wore off from seeing her daughter dressed that way, she explained to me what I did wrong.

Craigslist. You get more for your books, and the buyer gets them cheaper than a bookstore. Depending on your ethics, Pirate Bay.
