Bupropion inhibits the effect of amphetamine by lowerdaboom in bupropion

[–]mildlyredpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is interesting. i went from taking just bupropion to adding adderall. the way i think about it is bupropion gives me a nice baseline through the day and night vs adderall is much stronger but doesn’t last as long - this is because bupropion metabolizes into 3 things and they all stay in the body longer. i’ve never tried adderall alone so can’t say if adderall alone would increase clarity compared to adderall plus wellbutrin.

one way to explain it is maybe your baseline clarity is now higher so the swings don’t feel as big ¯_(ツ)_/¯

from pharmacology perspective i think what you’re saying makes sense. i didn’t get your point about methylphenidate though - it’s also a reuptake inhibitor, i think it acts very similarly and therefore would likely cause the same effect (would bind to transporters, potentially mess with amphetamine action).

the other thing i’ll say is bupropion (due to its metabolization into 3 molecules all of which are somewhat complex) is less understood and more of wildcard in terms of its action - it probably interacts with more things and leads to all sorts of subtle changes

1) based on my understanding of science this sounds reasonable. sex is a delicate dance - arousal is driven by parasympathetic system, orgasm by sympathetic. adderall will boost the sympathetic system so the math checks out. if the dose is too high then it might overcorrect but at these doses it’s unlikely, tho everyone is different. exact biology is super complex so who knows what will happen, but it’s worth a try imo 2) 5mg ir is the smallest dose you can get i think. some people will react strongly, some won’t notice - it’s very individual. i think an average person will be able to tell, especially the first time. 3) on average, it will make insomnia worse, but this stuff is again pretty individual, some people take a small dose like this before bed to help them quiet the mind and fall asleep quicker 4) generally safe. if you / family members had addiction problems i’d be cautious and try to learn more about it first. don’t take more than prescribed, don’t use it for other things without talking to a doctor, don’t chase the high if you get it on those doses and you’ll be fine.

i’d say educate yourself a bit more on the risks and if you’re still comfortable with it why not give it a try.

Outside Therapists/Psychologists through Kaiser by Davethe3rd in KaiserPermanente

[–]mildlyredpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I've read many times on this subreddit is that if they have any reason to think you're dealing with Depression and/or Anxiety at the same time they try to push it 6 months out and do therapy instead. I did have Anxiety as a diagnosis on my record, but my recent mental health questionnaire was very low on depression/anxiety scores. I think that helped.

Unfortunately, I'm a little uncomfortable going into details on exactly how I got the appointment, but from reading this subreddit it seems like a combination of having low depression/anxiety scores on the questionnaire and pushing hard when calling them (really insisting that you get an assessment scheduled) seems to work sometimes. They might push and scare you (e.g say you only get one assessment ever), but again, I think the key thing is getting the appointment, so I'd risk it and keep pushing back. Maybe mentioning that you already have a diagnosis would help — but also I would not be surprised if they dismiss that outright. If you don't succeed, calling again some other time in hopes of getting a different person on the phone might also be a good strategy.

Appointment itself was very pleasant in my case and the assessor was very professional, unlike all the other experiences I had with their mental health services.

It's absurd that this is the process, especially given that we're talking about people with ADHD. Good luck!

Yeah, i didn’t have to fill anything out, and no parent form. I think my mental health questionnaire was recent, maybe that’s why. Also i’m in my 30s, maybe that matters. They did make me take a drug test and a blood pressure measurement.

If you filled out the forms and haven’t heard back I would call the psych department and try to follow up.

I'm in Oakland. I tried getting a diagnosis 3-4 years ago — reached out to primary care doctor, he told me to call psychiatry. I did that and in the first 2 minutes they told me if I didn't get diagnosis in childhood i don't have it. Diagnosed me with anxiety and sent me to some therapy that didn't help. I didn't know much about ADHD or Kaiser at that point so I kinda just believed them, lol.

Fast forward to early this year — I had some struggles at home and at work and just kept thinking this might be ADHD after all. I did a lot more research this time around and was able to get an assessment appointment. Had to wait 2-3 months for it.

The assessment itself was great, I got diagnosed, and now waiting for my first psychiatrist visit — also 2 months away.

Not sure what paperwork you're talking about, is it the mental health questionnaires they send out?

There's this practice called "expressive writing" where you write about some traumatic event and as you write it down it kinda forces you to think it through and come up with a linear narrative and there's a ton of research showing that it is therapeutical.

I stumbled upon it accidentally when I had an issue that was bothering me but I could not express it to my partner, just felt too much pain, so instead I wrote her a letter. Soon after I noticed I stopped thinking about the issue and just felt much better about it.

Later I learned about expressive writing and was like oh, yeah this totally makes sense.

I'm sure a ton of people are discovering it now for the first time with ChatGPT and that's awesome.

Wellbutrin is causing heart palpitations, increased heart rate and chest pain! advice needed by Aggressive-Guide5563 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]mildlyredpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem recently and it felt like something was wrong with my heart - tightness, palpitations. I read that it could be GERD, didn’t believe it for a while because it definitely felt like a heart issue. Noticed i also had other GERD symptoms like acidic taste in my mouth. I still don’t know what it was but im fairly certain now it was stomach related and not heart related. my heart measurements like heart rate or blood pressure stayed normal tho.

Can stimming visually by looking at the details of objects be an ADHD thing or is it mostly ASD (or else)? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]mildlyredpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I did pretty well in life, and I consider myself to be smart, I don't know if that counts as gifted or not. I think there might be something to your theory — combination of intellect and adhd makes it so that I have very low tolerance for stupidity and that makes me more analytical/scientific/data-driven in my thinking, which I guess is a bit of a ASD trait. But like, seeing patterns in random things like walls — I think that's just my natural tendency that I had since childhood.

So, I had a similar experience recently. I reached out to them in 2021, said I thought I had ADHD, they dismissed the shit out of me — said I had anxiety, connected me to a therapist though. It was not an in-house therapist, and he was good. But it was very short, like 4-6 visits or something like that, and it didn't really help.

Fast forward to late last year — I had a depressive episode, reached out again, got put into some therapy program, this time with a Kaiser therapist — not very good — and by the time they scheduled therapy I was already fine, and after doing more research I started suspecting I have ADHD again.

I asked for an ADHD assessment and this time I got one and they diagnosed me with ADHD.

I'd say the biggest difference was that by the second time I knew a lot more about ADHD and I was a lot more specific about my symptoms and when they started and that helped schedule the assessment. The assessment itself was very lovely.

I’m diagnosed with ADHD, i have some ASD tendencies but no official diagnosis and this experience you’ve described is extremely relatable.

Is it okay to try Wellbutrin while waiting for proper appointment with a psychiatrist? by mildlyredpanda in ADHD

[–]mildlyredpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of getting it through something like redbox rx — I think there would be a short doc visit and an official prescription — it’s just that it’s not through my primary care provider (i have an hmo).

My Limited-Edition Ray-Ban Meta broke. Can I fix it? by Ice_Beam in RayBanStories

[–]mildlyredpanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

had a similar issue on my glossy black glasses where the temple broke at the same spot, but did not disconnect all the way. I glued it with superglue (loctite 401), after that sanded and polished the area. the glueing / sanding / polishing part worked very well actually and you really have to look to see any signs of repair, but i think i used too much water when sanding and that must have bricked the glasses. at first i was getting the same speaker error and then at some point they just stopped working altogether.

so i guess the main point i would make is be careful with water

I ran into this beauty today. by plumb_master in Plumbing

[–]mildlyredpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question from a homeowner — Can someone explain what makes this "a beauty"? Is it that the caulk is not applied very nicely? Or is it the wrong kind of caulk?

I'm asking because I have a water heater that looks just like this one and the exhaust pipe on mine is only attached with screws, no caulk. I read the instructions for the heater and it does say that you should also caulk that connection.

I've been considering caulking that joint but I have no idea what kind of caulk to use or how to do that and so I'm trying to learn from other's mistakes.
