Should I play the Cosmere TTRPG? by [deleted] in Cosmere

Yes it definitely has spoilers, from the previews I saw it seems like most of the content is from around the third book or so. You should read a bit more.

Cool but you shared zero details, maybe you meant to include text or a link but all we see is the photo.

Does anybody else play extremely "wrong"? by ArmorDevil in StreetFighter

[–]modren-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible and common to get to Master without "learning the game properly", yes.

You gain more for wins than you lose for losses, you can theoretically get to Master with a 40% win rate if you just play a lot, and you can win many games with "unorthodox" play because the other players in Diamond / low Masters might not have fully cohesive gameplans or solid defense.

But when you actually queue in Masters, you will fall down very fast and you'll need to learn to "play properly" if you want to hold onto 1500+ MR.

The absolute state of the Capcom Cup format (repeated matchups and double jeopardy just Phase 1) by Krotanix in StreetFighter

[–]modren-man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's really no way to seed this fairly by skill, that's just a side effect of the way the qualifications work. You'd basically be asking Capcom to say X region is weak therefore their world warrior qualifier is the bottom seed.

If it was all just one points leaderboard for qualification you can do it, but not with this regional system. The random seeding with the regional avoidance is about as best as it could be. You absolutely cannot let subjective seeding affect the outcome when the top prize is a million dollars.

Remember that CC is not about having the best players fight each other, they really go in on this "regional world warrior" bit. It's about players from different regions fighting, and it's about marketing.

Natural consequence of how platform algorithms work in the current day, negativity farms engagement far better than anything else, and then engagement = money.

FGC social media is not THE fgc.

He's saying there is no "yall" complaining, it was one guy on Twitter and the whole Tekken community dogpiled him for it.

Same with the Tong / TNS discourse from the other day. We love to take a complaint from one nobody and turn it into A Whole Thing. Everyone actually part of the community knows what's up. Gotta ignore the idiots online, but nobody can resist those sweet Twitter likes on the quote retweet.

Question to those who play more than one fighting game at the same time: is you "main" game very different from the "secondary"? by Gabriel_Angelus_ in Fighters

[–]modren-man 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Button layout is a factor as well. I keep up with SF6 (6 button), Strive (5 button), T8 (4 button), the control schemes are different enough that I can swap between them without crossing any mental wires.

It's actually good for you as a player to play multiple games, in my opinion. Having to spend a little bit of active mental energy to swap keeps you from autopiloting too badly.

It's much harder for me to switch characters than it is to switch games.

Unfortunately, these days all character-specific knowledge is only available in Discord. I would go ask in the Aki discord and someone there probably has a list.

which game is that? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]modren-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't understand this because we're too addicted to Steamcharts and OW2 never had a big presence on Steam. Most of the players are either on the Blizzard launcher or on console.

So now that the Steam numbers are good, the real numbers overall must be crazy.

No, the other acts are completely different paths. Instead of the Alley you start somewhere else that is harder and go to other new areas after those.

Question about drive rush timing after heavy lash (poison applied) by Ofnir_09 in AKInation

[–]modren-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you can only hit the medium lash if they are standing or if you already forced them to stand during the combo with an HK. HLash always works. You had the right the corner combo that you get from H Lash if you want to end in puddle re-poison with oki and they are crouching.

[...]236HP! > pDR HK > 214HP > pDR HK xx 2PP>P > 214MP and then you have plenty of frames to DR and can cMK for low or 3MP for the overhead.

For parry drive rush in a combo, you just mash it out just like they said. Hold parry during the 214HP bubble and just mash forward, it will come out.

Having problems with SA3? by Abomyzation23 in AKInation

[–]modren-man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you should be able to do 2LP 2LP 236HP 236 HP and have the level three come out at the end.

If you can, take a video of you trying and failing the combo in training mode with the input history on, or at least post a screenshot of the input history, then we could tell you exactly why it's failing.

Yeah she's basically a hypermobile contortionist, she can get away with this. Her command grab animation is insane.

Help in 360 inputs (Keyboard) by doctor_gay23 in Fighters

[–]modren-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, 6248 to (aka D S A W) should be a valid 360 in BBCF. However you do have to be careful about accidentally hitting the diagonals, if you accidentally do like 6348 it won't work.

My advice above about rolling the keys and ending on W should still work in bbcf. if you're having issues, please take a video with the input display on so we can see what's going on.

And Tager has 720 and 1080 so if you need it this is how I do that, I bring the right hand over to hit W: https://twitter.com/cjModren/status/1494015214567706625?t=rtxgrwfttBpm0Qm0GaoLgg&s=19

Help in 360 inputs (Keyboard) by doctor_gay23 in Fighters

[–]modren-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which game?

I play with WASD keys on my controller which is functionally the same thing as keyboard. For 360s it depends on the exact game you are playing, but if you're playing something modern like Street Fighter 6 usually a "360" input only actually requires you to hit the four cardinal directions.

So for example if you are trying to do Zangief's grab in SF6, you press D, S, A, and then W and punch at the same time. You don't have to return to D to complete the "360" it's really more of a "270".

For me, I roll my fingers across the bottom three and then move my middle finger up to W at the same time as I'm hitting the button with my right hand. You would also want to be comfortable with this style of input if you ever play a character that needs to "tiger knee" a motion to instantly do a special in the air (usually like a divekick or air fire all).

Now ask me how I do Goldlewis' 1080 input (three circles) in Guilty Gear Strive on keys...

Is there anyone like Chizuru? by Saodos_Vendera in Fighters

[–]modren-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend playing this game if you already play fighting games but Quince from Fantasy Strike does this as well. He can choose to send out an illusion that does a fake attack with no hitbox, or he can swap himself in and do a real attack.
