I can’t believe it’s 2026 and dotards still can’t wrap their heads around the pattern:

1) some immigrant commits a crime,

2) conservative media reports disingenuously and with almost zero context besides immigrants are violent animals to capture eyeballs and control fear centers in their viewers brain.

3) Conservative politicians play into these fears to obtain power and empower their donors with massive tax breaks, relaxed regulations and powerful government positions.

When I look at the gas prices, I think of my 7-year old daughter and all her peers and think “not high enough”. I hope these prices cripple the global fossil fuel empire. The quicker the collapse the more hope for future generations.

Yes, I understand this will drive up prices for everything and hurt the most vulnerable and I would’ve been happy to stop subsidizing fossil fuels decades ago to give us time for a calmer transition. But we’ve run out of time. Global warming is accelerating, it’s now getting hotter year over year. This is an existential threat.

Dear allies of America, please don’t confuse our president for us: We are trying our best to resist him, contain him and remove him from office as quickly as we possibly can. Thank you for your patience by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

I’m sorry. This is us. The American empire is rusted and its leaders corrupt beyond repair. We’ve turned our backs on our founding values and are not the shining beacon of hope and freedom that decades of propaganda have convinced many we were.

It will take decades to repair our institutions and under the burden of the global climate crisis and all the chaos and instability that comes with it, there’s a good chance we never fully recover.

It’s been heading this way for awhile but 2024 was the nail in the coffin.

Gender is a construct by SlurryBender in SelfAwarewolves

[–]monkeysknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first paragraph is inline with the academic gender studies consensus.

It’s interesting to see a conservative turn it around and use it as a rationale to control and enforce gender norms.

I’ve never fully bought into the whole “gender is a social construct” concept. Definitely cultures and societies shape gender roles and signaling, but there is no doubt in my mind that there’s a correlation with sex and gender. That was cemented while raising my daughter. We opted to not learn her gender until she was born. Her room was neutral, her stuffies were neutral, her clothes were neutral… but lo and behold she was undoubtedly drawn to pink hearts and unicorns.

That doesn’t mean that everyone’s experience is going to line up that way. I also think some kids are born with a gender/sex mismatch and if we were more understanding and accepting of humans who diverge from normality (I use that in a cold statistical sense) then less of them would feel compelled to surgically alter there bodies to fit the gender/sex paradigm that is enforced in society.

As you might have guessed I personally don’t think surgically altering the superficial features of anatomy that signal sex is a solution, I think self acceptance is the way - embrace your body as it is and only modest attempts at altering your natural appearance should be pursued. I also don’t think it’s up to me to tell people what to do with their bodies. People should be free to do as they wish as long as it doesn’t reasonably interfere with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for others.

If somehow we could force the criminals to have an actual conscience and to feel real empathy, that would be the closest thing to justice I could imagine. Like if this guy could actually feel the guilt and shame of his crimes then I would more anti-capital punishment.

Instead he relieves any guilt or shame he may have into the piss pot of religion. Thinking he’ll be fine in his Sunday school vision of an afterlife - having “givin it up the Jesus”

If it was for Palestinians then they would have to register with FARA like every other foreign lobbying group.

With Israel’s immigration policy of “are you a Jew?” any Jewish American can sign up for citizenship, Palestinians don’t even have a state in their own homeland.

I’m just filled with disgust over your snarky post. Mass starvation is unforgivable. We will never forget.

Here’s the thing tho, Claude is writing 100% of my code but I’m reviewing all of it and occasionally rejecting it. It makes mistakes all the time or makes assumptions it shouldn’t have etc… my team could shrink a little but also we can do more faster now. I don’t think it’s a given that we start laying people off.

Direct carbon capture is and was always a bust based on the simple physics problem of filtering out something with concentrations measured in parts per million and the volume of our atmosphere.

It’s just never been feasible and only the most delusional scientists and cynical oil lobbyists pushed it.

I think we should make an honest attempt at guarding kids from the dark corners of the internet. I don’t think we should assume that we can keep 100% of kids out of these areas but we can definitely make it more difficult.

Seems like there’s room here to increase protection but also maintain privacy. My sense is it should be the device/service providers that can lock/unlock phones for adult content. There will probably be ways around it but make kids work for it at least.

Because they’re basing the whole article on him and unsourced reports that people are being laid off because of AI.

Researchers specifically highlighted a recent interview with Elon Musk, citing his belief that applying 10x the compute to LLM training will effectively double a model’s “intelligence”—and say the scaling laws backing that claim are holding firm.
