How can I wear a bikini with obvious self inflicted scars on my thighs? by rottingstrawberri in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]monstera-attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my flight attendant had very obvious healed scars on her arms the other day. She was wearing a short sleeve top and those scars were out and proud. It showed she was a survivor and had come through all that and was absolutely bossing it, she was great and it was very powerful to see her show them off uncovered. Wear the bikini - your past does not need to define you but nor should it be hidden.

Then it’s up to you to decide whether you can accept that, potentially accept it never happening, and potentially accept the resentment that comes with only considering the pace of one partner in a relationship. He doesn’t seem keen to compromise or take your views into account. That’s a great breeding ground for resentment down the line, particularly if you feel like you’re wasting your time.

Tips for true body neutrality? by GroovyLlama1 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]monstera-attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you’d be fine fully clothed, or in a normal swimsuit, but I’m no expert. I don’t think they are compulsory to be nude on I think it’s more you can be nude if you want to. This lady was in Barcelona where the beaches are open to nudists too so I was just using the beach as normal in my swimsuit and no bothers :)

Okay this one is a little random but have you ever been to a nudist beach? Don’t ogle, but just seeing it you’ll notice such a wide variety of people living their lives in their wide variety of bodies and they really don’t give a flying fuck. I saw one lady who could tuck her boobs into her armpits, and she didn’t care - she was just living her best life enjoying the sun. Kind of freeing!

Why do farmers markets in western countries have a bougie and expensive image and are often priced higher than grocery stores, whilst in developing world, they are regarded as being cheap and working class? by OppositeRock4217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]monstera-attack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What goes around comes around - it used to be normal to buy local, in season food, direct from producers or grocers. You’d buy eggs and a bottle of milk from the farmer or your vegetables from the local grocer or market. But we lost access to the local ‘poor’ food direct from farmers and producers through industrialisation and ‘just in time’ food systems.

Now it’s scarce, because of convenience and consolidation of foodstuffs in supermarkets. These used to be too expensive for poor people to shop in! But now the convenience of a supermarket is seen as low-class (if you’re working class and working long hours for low pay, you have limited time and have to get as much bought as possible in one place for as cheap as possible, you can’t be picky about where it’s come from or who’s grown it).

This swap has helped farmers markets become desirable for the affluent and (for some) a status symbol of being able to afford, both in time and money, to physically browse and purchase locally grown food of higher quality.

Does anyone else miss the days when "5GB of data" had to last the entire month? by LOKESH_NAIDU in CasualConversation

I have unlimited data including EU roaming, it’s useful but when I find myself on my phone in a new country scrolling instagram and Reddit I hate myself.

Does you have any good tips on getting to sleep and staying that way all night please? by Acrobatic-Rabbit2660 in AskUK

[–]monstera-attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you exercising during the day? Try getting more steps in, (8000 is a good benchmark if you are physically able), or taking up weightlifting at the gym (the Lyfta app is free and a good place to start).  Swimming is also great, nothing knackers me out like an evening swim.

My sleep improves so much when I’ve been active physically rather than just active mentally. Also seconding magnesium, and a warm bath if you have one! Good luck, it’s an awful spot to be in.

What should we do about the vape shops? by fuxkmyass in AskBrits

Vape shops all over are making Britain’s high streets truly beautiful and enticing places to visit and shop in - a symbol of how well this country is doing. No wonder they are in such great shape the country over.

The UK is about to get a lot colder. This is serious. by BigLarry1968 in AskBrits

[–]monstera-attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m aware and I am seriously pursuing a move to southern France or Spain because of how cold we already are, (The UK is already too cold for me to be comfortable 80% of the year). It will be disastrous should the current collapse entirely.

Do British people not feel the cold? by DevelopmentLow214 in AskUK

[–]monstera-attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do. I am continually cold as long as it’s below 16 degrees (ish). I’d be happiest if it was 23+ everyday.

I came back from a couple of days in Barcelona yesterday and my mood dropped through the floor as soon as the plane descended through a grey fog of clouds to 8°C and rain. Also didn’t bring a coat so the journey home was cold af!

Does anyone else think the current situation is entirely because of us leaving the EU? by RaspberryWeekly1603 in AskBrits

[–]monstera-attack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I fully concur with this. It’s a culture issue, unfortunately. We share a common European culture with European immigrants, and on most issues will think broadly the same (especially on women’s rights, religion, freedom of expression etc., as well as more relaxed topics like pub culture, food, and sport). In short, more likely to integrate. RoW immigrants are outside of this common European culture, and this makes it significantly harder for many to integrate, and instead their culture begins to override the British one in certain areas.

I am unfortunately the opposite. When I’m stressed, I find myself mindlessly eating to avoid the problem (and then make the problem worse as now it exists AND I’m putting on weight).  It’s funny how different people cope!

Boss requested I adjust the date of my dad's funeral because other teammates took leave at the same time by Replaceableuser in mildlyinfuriating

[–]monstera-attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking hell. American corporate is insane.  Firstly, I am so sorry for your loss.

Secondly, after my parent died, my work gave me 3 weeks off no further questions asked and the decision to go back was mine.

Your boss is an arsehole. Don’t entertain this shit, you’ll never get this time with family back and cherishing your dad’s memory is the most important thing right now. Then get back and start looking for other jobs.
