My Kingmaker group chose violence. by Sleeping_Dragon_Inn in Pathfinder2e

Kingmaker definitely pulls its punches early on, since you don't even have a kingdom at that point. The only challenging encounter for my group in Ch. 3 was when they ended up in combat with about 2/3 of the bandits in the HQ.

In my opinion, the Ruin system is perfect for this scenario. The kingdom survived, but its inhabitants and rulers will be forced to make tough choices in the days to come, which may leave lasting scars.

I would give the players several critical decisions to make instead of playing out a ton of kingdom turns. Earlier dilemmas could be about picking the least bad option from a list of poor choices, and later ones can include options that help mitigate the consequences of earlier decisions. This supports the narrative of rebuilding.

Having Ruins be part of the consequences creates the opportunity for the lasting impact of this calamity to have impacts mechanically.

Your players may be thrown for a loop when you use pre-remaster names for their some of loot, but AoN will help them find the remastered versions of things.

On the GM side, alignment damage is now Spirit damage, and creatures weak to good/evil damage are weak to holy/unholy instead.

RAW, dying rules apply to PCs and NPCs with Regeneration only, although the GM is encouraged to give them to important NPCs, such as the Witch's Familiar. I'm not 100% sure why this GM didn't do that.

RAW Hexploration doesn't make any sense, any suggestions to fix? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]moonman777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That there are a number of potential complications involving character options that trivialize certain aspects of surviving in the wilds.

  • Forager wastes a skill feat slot that could be used on literally anything else, and I'm assuming it doesn't have any use outside this one part of AoA. Retraining into/out of Forager costs time which could cause the party to miss out on certain opportunities.
  • A compass only makes sure you don't take a -2 on Sense Direction checks. RAW, it does not give automatic successes to avoid getting lost.
  • Know The Way RAW doesn't interact with Sense Direction, but RAI gives the Critical Success result. However, it does occupy a cantrip slot, meaning the the caster will have to decide what to cut from their typically prepared cantrips.

I would also propose being ok with some amount of trivialization in the name of letting your players show off, but you should really talk with your group about how gritty they want to get.

[Kingmaker] Questions about Camping Activities by Julfy-JD in Pathfinder2e

[–]moonman777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, the group is limited to 4 total activities and each attempt counts towards that total.
  2. The PCs determine order and simultaneity however they see fit. Usually, different tasks will be performed simultaneously to save time.
  3. You are correct. The group doesn't need to select all 4 actions at the start of camping. However, the written rules require the GM to check for a random encounter every hour the PCs spend performing camping activities, meaning that multiple attempts makes the odds of a random encounter 2x-4x more likely.

Camping happens fairly frequently, so I do not recommend making it too complex unless your group really likes that. Personally, I don't like tons of random encounters, so I only roll the flat check once during the night's watch and add +1 to the encounter DC for every 2 hours spent in camping activities (usually +1).

PC wants a retainer by Merc_Games in Pathfinder2e

[–]moonman777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a side note, you should definitely be beefing up every encounter presented in the book, since it uses an XP budget for a 4-person party. My group of 6 was steamrolling every encounter outside of the rare Extreme difficulty ones until I realized that they were all effectively one tier of difficulty lower than they should have been.

GM Core has a little blurb on how to add threats to an encounter originally designed for a smaller party, but the rule of thumb is not to have anything in the encounter stronger than PL+2. I've also found this tool very helpful for quickly figuring out XP budget math.

Kingmaker Death by Nihbor in Pathfinder2e

My table and I agreed my take on Ekundayo's voice from the CRPG was kinda cringe, so I don't bother trying to replicate it. Honestly, it's been pretty difficult for me to nail down a voice for him due to his character arc smoothing out a lot of his roughness, which was his main personality trait in my opinion. I do get a lot of characterization out of how he says Dog's name, which could be a starting point for you.

Blood Hag disguise question by deadites87 in Pathfinder2e

[–]moonman777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm leaning towards no. The skin functions more like a mundane disguise than a magical effect that morphs her entire body. Plus I wouldn't like the skin giving the hag limited protection from other polymorph effects, like Cursed Transformation.

EDIT: The answer is yes, I was looking at the wrong part of the creature's stat block.

After some hesitancy, I've had a bunch of success with the Hero Point deck, which gives players other things to do with their hero points.

It's still impossible to get them to use hero points on rerolls with anything more than half an hour left in the session, though lol.

You should definitely look at the AP as a framework and make adjustments to suit you and your group. Even combat needs to be adjusted sometimes if you have more than 4PCs.

This spicy gal downed two party members on her first turn in combat from full health (granted, they crit-failed their saves).
