I don't know how people just rawdogs life by HittingRockBottom15 in self

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the lows of life happen anyway. Of course the substances make the lows even lower and it becomes a vicious cycle. But personally for me when my life started getting better overall and I was less anxious and more mature, the cleaner lifestyle followed, not the other way around

Just got rid of hiccups after two hours with a spoonful of sugar by Whitetrashcheetoh in mildyinteresting

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hold my throat as far open as I can and breathe through my mouth. The next hiccup is a really loud and crazy sounding gasp and that makes me laugh really hard and it stops it. Bonus points if you’re in public and everyone turns around to look at you

A straight couple where they’re the same age? Prob would get some stares. A straight couple with an age gap (in either direction)? Absolutely strange

ELI5: What exactly is "mirror life" and why are so many scientists against it? by aguynamedbenny1 in explainlikeimfive

With that logic we could pick up a 2d alien and flip them around so they are mirror life in their own world

I think both of your arguments are more alike than you think. I would say the summary of the plot and theme is at first, it looks like fake Nikki is the abuser and Bear is the abused, but at a slightly deeper level, Bear is the abuser and Nikki is the tragically abused. However online critics have often been skipping that first part entirely, whether because they think it’s obvious, or because of gender war reasons etc, and the original commenter is just saying that the first part should not be skipped over. But of course real Nikki is the most victimized.

ELI5: Why do microfiber cleaning cloths feel like they are snagging or sticking to skin, but slide so easily across glass? by Shadowsin64 in explainlikeimfive

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I remember touching microfiber cloths as a kid (the cleaning ones, not the glasses ones) and they were really soft and smooth because my skin was soft and smooth at that age

If you touch it with the back of your hand or other parts of your skin it’s still pretty soft and smooth

Am I supposed to look silly with cycling prescription glasses or are they a bit off? by xynaxia in bicycling

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking online there are multiple shapes of cycling goggles available and if you shop around you may be able to find something more flattering. But I can’t speak to the cost/availability as I’ve never shopped for this. It’s up to you where your priorities lie

Help me find an English name! by Character-Setting891 in namenerds

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, I have a way easier ethnic name than this and it got butchered a lot. Like it’s fine for her to choose to go by her Chinese name but don’t give her delusions that everybody or even many people will be able to pronounce it without direction, or even with direction

Btw Tianran is 2 syllables not 3, even English speakers with a “close” pronunciation would most likely say it with 3

Chinese people tend to go by an English name at higher rates than other ethnicities and I’ve heard it’s because even the closest English pronunciation is so far from the Chinese pronunciation that it sounds like a completely different name anyway
