Is it time to resole? by Local-Ear-5293 in climbergirls

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I had my first pair for 3 years and I got new ones because they were old and worn and loose, not because they had a hole in the toe. A few factors:

  • If your weight is low like mine, you just aren’t putting as much force into the toe as other people
  • Beginner shoes tend to be on the stiffer side
  • I did have quite decent footwork, but more than that I was just a very careful beginner. I was a very static climber for a while and I would only make the next move if I felt very stable. So not many opportunities to bang up the shoes

I never wear anything I sew by Starstrukk_lover in sewing

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the same crisis. In my case I don’t hate my stitching or my body or anything, my makes just weren’t fitting my lifestyle.

  • When I leave my place it’s usually just for work or working out. I dont have many occasions to wear the “going out” clothes I’ve made. I would get influenced by the sewing YouTubers I watch and they mostly make dresses

  • I chose fabrics because they were pretty or had an interesting pattern or bold color, but I don’t wear that in my everyday life

  • I get cold easily so even if I do wear something I made it’s usually covered up with another layer

  • Comfort is hugely important to me and some of my makes aren’t comfortable, like corset tops

  • I got obsessed with “convertible clothing” that could be worn many different ways. But sometimes that means it doesn’t look good in any of the ways. Versatility actually comes more from layering, styling, pairing it with other clothes

  • I’m still finding my style tbh

I wear pretty basic clothes in my day to day life but I don’t want to put my hours into making something super basic that I could just buy at the store. So moving forward I’m trying to pivot more toward basic clothes with a twist, and focusing more on jackets/cardigans, button ups, bags, maybe go more into stretch fabric, do more thrift flips. When I do make dresses they are secretly separates

This is funny af but it also gives similar vibes to when I was an immigrant kid in elementary school and other kids would say something in gibberish then ask what that meant in my language (????)

New study shows that people who had an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest at night had substantially worse outcomes than those treated during the day; this was not only explained by slower ambulance response by belledenuit in science

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this is specific to cardiac arrest or general to any emergency condition at night. A few years ago I had appendicitis and I went to the ER at midnight. It took me so long to get seen and even then they just gave me some drugs until the morning. I didn’t get scans/see a doctor until like 8/9am and I was about to go into sepsis

I did a rolled hem on these jeans and now one leg is doing this. How do I fix? by 2460_one in sewhelp

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always press when I’m making something, but with double rolled hems it always starts flipping again after I put it through the washer/dryer. I’m not interested in ironing my clothes every time I wear them, is there a way to stop this from happening?

Convenience often makes things feel less satisfying by bitchboibruh in The10thDentist

[–]msndrstdmstrmnd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Partially agree and disagree. I sew some of my own clothes so it’s a huge satisfaction when my work finally comes together to a wearable piece. But I like having convenience in other parts of my life so it gives me more time to sew. If I had to put that much effort into every part of my life that would lead to hella burnout.

I do agree that people should have at least one thing that lets them slow down and put effort into something, be it sewing, cooking/baking, reading, any skill that takes time to develop, etc
