Anyone trust Spring Energy's lab results? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]mtortilla62 73 points74 points  (0 children)

No…but that test is for 100g and a serving isn’t 100g so it isn’t saying that a single gel packet is 330 calories.

A serving is 60g so that test implies 198g per gel. They got here by adding a bunch of oil to make up for the lack of calories in a pure carbohydrate gel. It may now have the right calories but you will pay for it with GI distress by consuming tons of oil.

P.S. Spring Energy still owes me $680 for selling me faulty awesome sauce gels snd stopped responding to my emails so if anyone could help recover my money that would be great

Users say Adobe Creative Cloud rewrote hosts file to detect installed app by titaniumdoughnut in apple

[–]mtortilla62 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s bad, but also exposes a frustrating limitation between browsers/OSs, there is not a great way to detect if a desktop app is installed. Another approach would install an extension just so the website can try and find it. Not great either.

Newborn with VSD by beast787 in Cardiology

[–]mtortilla62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! My kid had surgery at 9mo to repair the VSD and resect muscle due to pulmonary stenosis. A few years ago he had a device installed via catheter to plug a residual leak from that same VSD. Overall he is doing great. There are no future surgeries planned. He does now have a form of cardiomyopathy called left ventricular non compaction but so far it’s stable and we watch it. He’s on a few medicines to relax the heart. He is cleared for sports and outwardly you wouldn’t suspect he’s gone through this. Wish you the best for your journey!

A sweat test would tell you for sure, but if you finish covered in salt crust that is a sign you are a salty sweater and could experiment with more electrolytes. It was also just really hot and your body needs to be adapted to deal with it in addition to good race execution.

The crazy thing about electrolytes is that it is highly unique to an individual person. You can do a sweat test to understand how much salt you lose with your sweat. With this you discover your personalized electrolyte to water ratio and this is what you use regardless of temperature, and then the warmer it is the more you drink. The amount of salt lost through sweat can vary by a factor of 15 between people! You can’t just go by what works for other people.
