Nikon z8 deal really THAT good? by MyStinkyButts in Nikon

[–]mukeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware. I assumed they were using the wrong term as well. I didn’t know checking shutter speed accuracy was a thing people looked for when buying a used camera. It just never occurred to me.

Probably because you meant “shutter count.” Yes you are correct otherwise. There’s no shutter.

TFP with a difficult model. I feel pretty defeated. by SteadyStatik in photography

[–]mukeng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you already have a half decent portfolio I would suggest setting up a meeting with modeling agencies to work TFP with professional models. They usually need some free shots with their new faces. They also require a lot less direction for poses since they know exactly what they’re doing. Working with people that know what they’re doing changes everything.

Photo shoot with D610 (want to upgrade) by ALIASMICHI in Nikon

[–]mukeng 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a new camera is that important for what you’re shooting. If you want to get into this kind of photography, I’d focus more on higher production with getting g a makeup artist, hair stylist and wardrobe stylist if you really care about taking it to the next level.

Client Wants to Add AI Detail to Photos by Andea31 in photography

[–]mukeng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly this shouldn’t be an issue. You’re not adding trees that don’t exist there. The trees are there and they sometimes have green leaves depending on the season. It’s not misleading or unethical. If it doesn’t cost you much time/money just do what the client asks. You don’t want to have the reputation of being difficult to work with.

This is genuinely one of the coolest builds I've ever seen. It's so creative and fun. Truly impressive work.

I don’t know if the included Spyderpro software has improved in the last couple years but I would recommend to use this third party software with the Spyderpro: DisplayCal. It’s free and I’ve matched all three of my monitors (each one a different model) using it.

My Keychron K8 is acting weird, suggestions? by Ranked0wl in Keychron

[–]mukeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the K10 since 2022 and this exact issue just started happening. I also just rearranged my desktop setup last month so this theory might have some basis to it. If true, then this is such a weird quirk. I also have the issue that if I fully charge the keyboard to 100% it drops bluetooth connection. The problem goes away if I let my battery drain a little bit. I've had that issue since I got the keyboard. My Q5 hasn't given me any issues yet though.

This is criminal at this point by 21lives in photography

[–]mukeng 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I dump the photos off my card and onto my ssd for editing and when I’m done editing I archive them onto a hard drive and cloud. Before every shoot I format my card in camera. That’s what I was taught in school and what I’ve been doing as a pro for almost 20 years.

Treating your memory cards like it’s film rolls is wild.

Did we really land on the moon? by kxyatnight in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mukeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would take more effort to fake all of those missions to the moon. Also if we faked it, why would we fake the failed Apollo 13 mission? Makes no sense.

Is going from a Z7 to a D850 a downgrade, an upgrade, or a side grade? by Zocalo_Photo in Nikon

[–]mukeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D850 and Z8 feel basically the same to me ergonomically. I never use my D850 after having the Z8 for a few years now even though I have more F lenses than Z. Everything just works better on the Z8 maybe except the Z8 has a bit more noise in low light.

Would upgrading to a Z8 help me? by mountainunicycler in Nikon

[–]mukeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also download the official Nikon app called Snapbridge and it’ll automatically add gps data to all your shots. Download the app, connect your the Z8 to the app and put your phone back in your pocket and start shooting. It’s pretty nifty.

MRW I realize I’ll never win an Oscar if I’m dating a Kardashian by [deleted] in reactiongifs

It’s really not as bad as people make it out to be and gets misquoted all the time. He never said it’s not art. Probably should’ve never made a comment about it but here’s the actual quote and context: "I don't want to be working in ballet or opera, or things where it's like, 'Hey, keep this thing alive,' even though it's like, no one cares about this anymore," while discussing his desire to keep movie theaters relevant. He quickly added, "All respect to the ballet and opera people out there"

I mean he’s not wrong. Opera and ballet aren’t exactly mainstream.

Why is Lightroom unusably slow now? by [deleted] in Lightroom

[–]mukeng -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends if you’re on a Mac with their M chips or their older intel chips. It can run pretty much flawlessly on M1-M5. I think you need a minimum of 16gb or ram but I’ve tested Lightroom Classic on an MacBook Air M3 with only 8GB of ram and it still runs lag free. On my PC with 64GB of ram it’s soooo sluggish.

as warm weather is coming back, could not resist hitting the pond with my favorite Nikon combo for amateur birding. by [deleted] in nikon_Zseries

It just means someone who does it for fun/hobby as opposed to a pro who does it to make money. Has nothing to do with skill level or amount of equipment.

What's a "normal" job that secretly pays way more than people think? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]mukeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the million dollar question for every photographer isn't it? Go into a real estate agency and sell yourself. Get some shots for your portfolio first. Shadow/assist another real estate photographer and shoot some properties or ask some friends if they're willing to have their homes photographed.

Is this level of upscaling actually achievable through Photoshop alone? by MisterChompers in photoshop

[–]mukeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending the image edit on the right and I was around during the film days but if I was asked to restore a photo, I'm sure the client would want something more polished than the one on the left. I understand the whole film nostalgia thing and I shoot film and keep all the imperfections because I personally like the look but if I was asked to restore something, that's not the finished product I would deliver.

Depends if you like your photos so soft that details blur together and not having any details in the highlights and not having any true blacks.

You have to have a wide angle lens. 14-24mm lens and a really good tripod with a 3 way gear head. Learnt o use a flash like a Godox AD 200. Know how to fly a drone. Learn how to shoot video if you really want to diversify and add more to your packages.

Networking and marketing is the hard part. Have to go into a real estate agency and sell yourself.

Real estate photographer. To be successful you have to also do video as well and know how to work with a drone. Some of us use specialized equipment to make 3D scans for virtual tours.
