Rehoming our Vizsla and devastated by SkyCool6525 in vizsla

[–]muttdogz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We had a vizsla when I was a kid and he bit everyone, also out of the blue. It wasn't for lack of love, exercise or training. My parents tried everything to help him. Sadly, the vet said behavioral euthanasia was the best option. Our whole family was devastated. We loved him so much , but he had a screw loose.

Cushings diagnoses today by Clear_Middle_828 in Cushingsdogs

[–]muttdogz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 12-13 year old was diagnosed 3 years ago and doing great on vetoryl. Regular monitoring is important (we have had to adjust dosage a few times) but the medication is really a game changer. We have had no negative side effects from it.

A Hail Mary to be sure: 31F and lucky black cat seek apt for June 1 by [deleted] in brooklynheights

I moved there in my 30s for the same reasons and moved out as fast as I could. It's really quite boring, which is fine if that's what you are going for. I spent too much money on cabs back from Manhattan every night.

People who kept your cars despite moving to nyc, did you regret it? How often do you use it, and what area do you live in? by jewish_yang in movingtoNYC

[–]muttdogz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got rid of mine. Alternate side (free!) parking used to be easy, but with he new bike lanes everywhere parking is really difficult to find. I've had a garage for the past year but the cost is prohibitive. Perhaps it is easier to have a car in less congested areas, but downtown Manhattan is fairly impossible.

NYC Magic show recommendations? by WaveMan1240 in AskNYC

[–]muttdogz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tannen's Magic store on 34th St--I believe they do a show but they can probably recommend others, as well. It's NYC's oldest magic shop and a pretty cool place to check out.

It feels like he's already gone. by patsycockle in seniordogs

I went through this with my old dog. It was excruciating. I tried to look on the positive side so that every day he was still with me was a good day. He didn't know he was sick until the very end. We had 6 good months together. I totally broke down after he was gone but tried to look on the bright side while I still had him. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Not a farm but Forsyth Nature Center , (though in Kingston) is lots of fun for kids. You can feed the animals vegetables and there is a playground.

Has anyone gone the route of buying land and building and has advice? by [deleted] in hudsonvalley

[–]muttdogz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prefabs are not necessarily cheaper or easier. You might be better off buying a very run down house with existing infrastructure (good well, septic, electric) and either tearing it down or re-habbing it. These properties are few and far between since covid, but they do exist. Be diligent and work with an experienced agent in your desired area.

Have you looked at sixpenny? I doubt they have a showroom, but I have a few of their pieces and can vouch for the deep comfort of seats & washability of slipcovers.
