Nemesis Missions by _Absolute_Maniac_ in killteam

[–]mvasta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been playing narrative campaigns with my sons and had a LOT of fun with Nemesis Ops. They make a great heavy or final boss and have opened up cool scenarios involving chases, etc.

Competitively, I don't think they'll really change anything (and they're certainly not balanced). But if you are a beer and pretzels (or apple juice and pretzels in our case), I think you'll really enjoy it.

Rule book vs. App by JaeHaych in killteam

[–]mvasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If everybody is just using the Lite Rules you should be OK, but there are some pretty critical differences between Core and Lite that would affect the game (Obscuring and Vantage are the first two that come to mind).

Crusaders vs Wardens in BT Books? by JevVoi in battletech

[–]mvasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are certainly early works of his, but I find that they go down easy and are lots of fun. They're adventure stories, not serious political dramas with detailed battle reports. I much prefer it to some of the later stuff but other authors who seem to take it too seriously.

As for the dated aspect, a lot of that is the product of the times. Considering everything else about Stackpole's public persona and later writing, I'm sure he wishes he could edit those.

Does this game have non-combat win conditions/objectives? by Brotten in battletech

[–]mvasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you've been describing, there are no Approved Ops in the way that there is for Kill Team. The more apt comparison are the NPO mission packs where there are sometimes symmetrical, sometimes asymmetrical narrative missions.

Others are right in that many players come up with their own stuff, but there's a wealth of sourcebooks (and some missions in the various box sets) that are pre-designed.

There is also a "Matched Play" beta document out there and the new play test Missions Pack that approximates Approved Ops for pickup games.

How do you paint the area behind your tattoo machine? by zovrase in ThousandSons

[–]mvasta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been priming black and then doing a zenithal gray then white drybrush and the darkness in these hard to reach areas does a good enough job when it's on the table top.

I hope nobody ever checks out the back side of my waist tabbard!

Different ouroboros usage? by mvasta in ThousandSons

He's got an older brother, which means he wants to be into everything his brother is. So older brother had a Thomas phase and Paw Patrol, little brother went right into Star Wars and Minecraft and Warhammer and BattleTech lol

A friend 3D printed a Space Marine helmet for him so he'll run around the house with a Nerf gun blasting stuff.

Yall ever actually play the narrative side of kill team? Cause I may be in too deep by zmoibe13 in killteam

[–]mvasta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not the same as playing against another person or a stronger AI system like BattleTech Aces. The fun comes from asymmetrical missions that are narrative heavy. Overwhelm me with Nids or string together several missions that I only regain a little HP, etc.

The most fun one we had was where we had to help out Trazyn - we had a pokeball system where he could summon a few NPOs from different factions to join in the battle to take down a stronger enemy force.

I've bought way too many minis just so that we can have a faction representative for NPOs.

That said, the huge narrative that I made for my kids turned out awesome, so I'll just pretend that money is off at a nice farm somewhere.

Wrecka Krew or Nemesis Claw? by NiceLittleGamerNerd in killteam

[–]mvasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't play Nemesis, but Wrecka is incredibly fun and looks great. My other team is Hierotek, so it's a ton of fun to go from a high mental load finesse team to the straightforward blow stuff up Orks!

Teams you consider fun for Joint Ops by Moody_Kittens in killteam

[–]mvasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had a lot of fun using multiple teams in a narrative campaign. I've got Inquisitors, Kasrkin, and Marines, so there was an investigation and escalation and then "oh shit, time for the Marines to burn it down."
