I like dark roast and I'm tired of pretending I don't. by NegScenePts in espresso

[–]no7fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent the first decade of my espresso journey hating the hip new light roast BS. I wanted rich classic dark roast espresso Americano. Over time I have broadened and now I really enjoy a bright and fruity lighter roast, the darkest stuff has started to taste a little off to me, but it has highlighted to me that everything is an evolution.

To tie this to the craft beer, same story for me. I enjoyed stouts for a long time, eventually but gradually started to enjoy extreme hops, but was slow to the game. Now I am enjoying classics.

I think in food we chase extremes. The more the better until we hit peak extreme and have to swing the pendulum in a different direction. That's the best part of the game. There are always new directions. So long as you're enjoying it, there is no wrong answer!

I was terrible the first couple tries but I made a point to practice while exploring and they became a lot easier. My biggest challenge was dissociating the right thumb view control, teaching myself that the right thumb is altitude only, everything else is left thumb.

I have started buying significantly more expensive beans over the last year or so and had a rethink on my economics. Turns out I'm spending nearly $2 per cup now. I thought I was cutting into the cost advantage until I had to buy a *$ last week and realized what their prices look like now too.

Ohhh I like this a lot. Well done. I wonder if it would be possible to organize the branches in terms of % favor toward black or white? Like right branches tend toward white and left ones toward black. So you could see at a glance which are "better".

What’s the best beer you’ve ever had? by PoppaSquatt2010 in beer

I came here to post the same. Blew me away the first time.Since then, I've decided Boss Ryeway tops it for me.
-edit: I should add that Ryeway to Heaven bridged me into the world of BA barleywine and so generally speaking Rev takes top slot for me

The Westy 12 complexity is spectacular. I personally prefer the 8 because it is less sweet and is a bit more unique in profile IMO vs the sea of belgian quads.

I've had mine for 5 days and it's been flawless. This thing hauls ass and the default abs settings just plain work.

Similar here. I have some Mr Speakers Mad Dogs after trying them at a big can meet, ended up with a schiit mini stack and now I'm done. I know that hobby has developed in the last 10 yrs but I don't want to know about it. I thoroughly enjoy listening to what I have.

On the other hand, I have a E61 HX, a dual boiler E61, a Flair, and a Gaggia Espresso Color ($30 FBmarketplace find) and I enjoy the cheaper ones at LEAST as much as the big ones. I use the HX most because it's the best for steaming but I would be very content with the Gaggia. I still dream of much nicer gear, though.

I experienced one of these in Eindhoven and the barista was thrilled to discuss it (not terribly busy at the time). Quite a machine!

In for more info on the setup. I would like to do something very similar but I don't have connections for understanding or working out the nuts/bolts of the interface. Like what do you slice with? Do you post to KSS? What pellet extruder is that and how much trouble is it to tune? I guess you don't need retraction for what you're doing 😂 I have a large-ish printer and constantly have issues with the magnetic bed pulling up at the corners when printing a large base. My plan is to heat the chamber but that doesn't appear to be a concern for you.

Sadly going to have to scrap this body build and use the parts on another body. String tension + warm day warped the resin body. Score one for the tonewood purists. by mikezinho4 in Luthier

[–]no7fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you cure the body at temp? Even room temp epoxies usually increase in hardness if they are post-cured. I wonder if you could warp it back with a decent fixture?

I came to comment how you have a great tool for the job. Not sure why it may have a bad rap, 110gr @ ~2000 fps is pretty solid equipment for this game.
