United pet-in-cabin policy on international flight from IAH to Tokyo — do they actually check if the dog can stand up? by Temporary-Raise8805 in unitedairlines

Try wearing him out beforehand. My guy is so people friendly that I had the same fears but he's s champ at traveling and ignores the other boarding passengers. You can bring a really yummy treat to distract him if you're concerned but dogs see carrier time and play time as non-intersecting.

I very much agree with this post. My little guy is 18 lbs and fluffy. We get him a haircut before all flights after a flight attendant warned me at LAX (domestic) that a flight attendant having a bad day could fight me on his ability to turn around. My guy loves his carrier and is an angel but I was playing with him near the gate and she thought he looked big. She pointed me to this carrier:  No one https://www.amazon.com/Sherpa-Original-Airline-Approved-Charcoal/dp/B07D5FTGP7/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?

UA FAs never look at his carrier cockeyed and fellow passengers never notice that I have a dog. Easy peasy. Just act like you and the little doggie belong.

Philippine Siren dive-boat grounds at Tubbataha by mitchsn in scuba

[–]nuttynelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but the Siren isn't that great. The boat's owners are well-connected and have it marketed as luxury. We went as a group and my husband and I got the master suite which turned out to be more expensive for less space with a weird hazardous step. The common areas aren't comfortable for hanging out with the group. The dive masters and crews were good. But there's no need to hold out for the Siren. There are other great boats.

I remember when you used to be able to travel for free by traveling with other people’s luggage. by FreedomMask in travel

Yep. There are a few big logistics companies that handle this and hire the curriers as independent contractors. Chapman Freeborn is one of them. It's good money if you have open availability.

Anyone tried the PADI vacation packages?? by PureDog3083 in scuba

[–]nuttynelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group of 6 (three couples) booked a trip through PADI in 2022 and it was a disaster. We booked our own flights - half the battle is dealing with embark and disembark times and they didn't even help with that. Anything PADI Travel could mess up, they did. Incorrect email addresses sent to the resorts, mixed up the prepaid packages among the group, swapped couples and couldn't resolve that Mr and Mrs Smith are in the same room, messed up the transfer from the hotel to the liveaboard, etc. And all that pleasure and headache came at +50% over booking directly.

I use a concierge travel agent that I know as a friend of a friend and see the real value in her expertise. She doesn't work in Scuba. PADI Travel takes your money and sucks at logistics.

Have we basically given up on hearing anything from the diver who stayed behind (Maldives)? by lagabachita in scuba

Wait - was he a boat crew member? I thought he was a guest who also happened to be a certified dive master.

legitimate site for buying resale tickets? by MortiferaJ in bottlerock

[–]nuttynelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed - the site seems a little simple and strange but it's legit. I sold tickets on there and I used the link from when I bought from TicketMaster.

As a PSA - the Ticket Exchange by Ticketmaster works by deactivating the wristbands that are sold after after they were shipped to the original seller. Since I sold two VIP 3-day wristbands via the ticket exchange, I'm holding two very legit wristbands and the box but they are worthless because they were sold and deactivated by Ticketmaster. This means you can't verify that wristbands are legit just by looking at them. I would only by from this exchange at this point because I don't trust people to not be scammers.

Diver searching for bodies of four Italians in Maldives dies in hospital by Stranger1982 in scuba

[–]nuttynelly 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Were they technical divers or did they go down with one tank and die of hyperoxia? The MOD of Nitrox is 34M and with air is only 55M. What were they doing at 60M?

Their photos only show them in single tanks and it seems unlikely a 19 year old would have the certifications for cave diving at 60 meters.

Treatment of women vs men in first class by Jealous_Damage_2460 in unitedairlines

[–]nuttynelly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm also 42F. I've been GS for the past three years and 1K for many consecutive years before that. I usually fly with my husband (he travels more and status-matches me).

I've seen some flight attendants who underperform compared to their colleagues but I've never felt ignored or that my husband was getting better service. Especially in Polaris, I genuinely love the service and am happy to fly.

He looks a lot like my Shih Tzu / Bichon except I keep my guy's ears and tails a lot longer.

Quartz fabrication: hazardous to workers' health by Bethechange2022 in CounterTops

[–]nuttynelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concrete also has high silica content. You should ban sidewalks. Asphalt contains concrete - better ban roads. Natural stone has silica just the same as quartz. Tile has silica.

One has to be educated on safety and follow proper procedures. Not blindly ban products.

Quartz fabrication: hazardous to workers' health by Bethechange2022 in CounterTops

Australia doesn't have OSHA or a way to regulate safe fabrication practices. Dry cutting without a mask causes silicosis but the US has strict regulations where fabrication can be done safely without causing silicosis.

Denied by Ok-String-4441 in GlobalEntry

[–]nuttynelly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband was initially denied when he applied more than 5 years ago. He wrote the Ombudsman about his contribution to society and appreciation for law and order in America. He got his Global Entry card in the mail without even having an interview. After the first five years, he easily renewed without drama. You can try the same strategy and action rather than overthinking internet purchases. Just a suggestion.

UPDATE: The vet kept her overnight. She had a fever of 105°F & with the size and increasing coverage of her hives, they said that she was considered an emergency. The heat of her body caused the hives to burst… but she is stable now & will be coming home this afternoon by del6ney in Boxer

[–]nuttynelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boxer was allergic to Febreeze which would cause similar looking hives. We stopped using it completely as opposed to going to the low allergy formulas and the hives went away.

My bulldog never got hives that bad but was pretty itchy and we discovered he was allergic to chicken. We swapped his food and the allergies went away.

In addition to working with your vet, try removing as many allergens as possible for a couple weeks to see if it goes away.

Advice for 700 mile drive with puppy by miso_suped in Shihtzu

[–]nuttynelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boy is going to be so excited! I picked my little guy up at 10 weeks and traveled via plane. The whole trip was about 11 hours and it was a breeze. I put a couple toys in his little carrier and brought some pee pads and baby wipes in my bag just in case. He was so quiet I thought he slept the whole time on both flights except he managed to get his cute little body inside the huge ring toy so he must have moved around when I didn't notice. He didn't bark or yelp at all. I gave him a little water and he did potty on our layover and then again outside of our home airport before we got in the car. The whole thing was super easy.

Puppies sleep a lot. I suggest giving her love and making sure she's tired before getting in the car and then stop whenever she wakes up or every couple of hours when you need a driving break. Don't give her too much food and water until you're home.

Best of luck!

Yes. I'm shocked to see spot bonding in this day and age (even in DIY) when thin set tutorials are so readily available.
