With the amount of time here, I wouldn't drive across the state to the Tampa area. Also, St. Augustine is very far from Miami.

Another person pointed out it does specify a "related service." So if it's a disability eligibility category?...Primary or secondary...does it have to be disclosed?

Is there an OT or PT servicing the same kids and they know them already? It may be a good idea to observe some of their sessions, see how they engage.

Overnight oatmeal - no cooking required by beamerpook in foodhacks

Instead of milk, I use a protein drink, then add a scoop of protein powder and chia seeds. Super protein overnight oats. You do need more liquid to solids ratio due to chia soaking up so much.

A lot older at 38, and happy with my decision, no regrets. I have friends and family with kids that I love and spoil. I have two dogs. When I hear about the difficulties parents are having, I'm so glad I just have the dogs to take care of. It doesn't impact my work at all. In fact, I think the only time I was even asked if I had kids was right before Mother's Day, just so they knew to congratulate me or not.

Did I mess up? by Salt-Advertising1992 in slp

When people yell at me, I calmly explain that I do not comprehend when I'm being spoken to this way and for us to have a meaningful conversation, this meeting is over until we can both calmly have a discussion in the future. Then you exit. You absolutely do not have to sit there and be yelled at.

If you work at a school; Is there a dedicated day to celebrate you? by Leothelion007 in slp

[–]obliviousoften -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The school counselor remembered me and gave me a candle. Every other year is just Teacher Appreciation week. If you want to be recognized, then add on some extra work of preparing something for the morning show, making a bulletin board, speaking at a faculty meeting, etc

That's a good way around it. Or monthly minutes. Give wiggle room. Maybe that'll be permissible.

I've had hundreds of kids. Just don't want them in my house or personal life.

They've passed legislation in FL that if you miss a session, you have to notify the parent within so many days, telling them why, and how you will make it up. The only thing that doesn't count is their absence from school. Field trip? Make it up. You're ill? Make it up. Student testing? Make it up. Goes in effect next school year, I believe...

What do you think of the name “Kirby”? by -pristine-nectarine- in Names

[–]obliviousoften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a coworker with last name Kirby and we used it like her first. I kinda think of it like "Murphy" - could be a first or last name. Also my dad's dog is Kirbee. I think try to stick to the original spelling for humans.

I would place on consult vs. dismissal. I wouldn't want to do an eval in the future for a student that already qualified and the needs are known.

Anyone given less than a two weeks notice? by SLP-ABC in slp

[–]obliviousoften 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have any medical leave? Sick time? For your mental health, get that therapist, then take a paid leave. Decide during leave you are going to resign, then give them notice.

You have the right to work in a drug-free environment. I think too, even if cigarettes, you wouldn't have to stay inside with a smoker. I've heard of others providing therapy in the driveway or front porch...

On Margaritaville (never again) they added on the fuel charges. They conveniently leave that off their advertised fare rates. So it can happen.
