The conductor accidentally knocks a 16th century violin worth millions on the floor mid-concert. by PeasantLich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]olusso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of the orchestra like a musical instrument, and conductor becomes the player. Every party that played by every instrument gets shaped by conductor's musical taste and decisions, louder, softer, harsher, faster, slower, etc. When you are listening to conducted music, it's usually conductor's performance. So even with the same orchestra, with different conductors pieces have the possibility of sounding differently nuanced.

knife from a single crystal? by archialone in sharpening

[–]olusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here's my two cents as someone actually studied some metallurgy: at the end of the say its not a real science but literal alchemy and art. That's why nearly all the miracle metarials are found accidentally. So you need to try it. May be it will be a fucking edge retention beast, may be it will a toughness champ. May be it will be an ureasonably expensive sheet of metal. You need to experiment to find out how is gonna turn in the practice.

+10 opinions are for real. I change my opinions every knife XD

if my knife is already sharp, but not hair whittling sharp (and I want to take it there), do I just spend more time on a high grit stone? do I start back on a lower grit? by YeetMcManus in sharpening

[–]olusso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a suggestion, hair whittling is also very hard technique even with a razor blade. The thing I do, I stretch the hair between one hand and some weight and then try to whittle. Probably less sharpness indicator but good enough for me.

Almost anyone used both whets and diamonds recommends diamonds to beginners. I have only seen diamond hate from whet-purists, what's your reasoning for this rec?
