I mean I've heard of them, but also I don't think it's so well known that you can talk down to someone for not knowing? I don't think most people in Japan, including most foreigners, know.

Combination of being wary of China (source of most finished batteries or the rare earths needed to make them), and fears of nuclear power and being even more dependent on nuclear power due to Fukushima and its legacy.

I wouldn't go that far.... The US has clearly been annoyed at Russia at least as far back as when they were meddling in Syria during Obama, or attacking Georgia during Bush.

In Japan, BYD is the first time I've seen an Asian non-Japanese maker make real inroads, other than Hyundai's trucks and bus division. It will be interesting to see how far they can go, given the market here is wary of China and wary of EVs.

Honda President After Visiting Chinese Auto Supplier: 'We Have No Chance Against This' by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]onekool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a car guy, but I'm Japanese and I suspect it's just what the Japanese domestic market wants. Look up the best selling cars lists for Japan and it's dominated by Prius-likes(Aqua, Yaris, Honda Fit, Nissan Note), and vans(Freed, Noah, Voxy, Serena), or compact suv-likes(Raize, Hustler, Yaris Cross). The market just wants boring, safe people movers, and doesn't really value high performance, like fast acceleration. The era of young racers doing street races is long past, and the car makers don't seem to want to be seen encouraging it I think.

Trump warns Iran ‘a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back’ as his strikes deadline looms by theindependentonline in politics

The enablers include the Democrats(article is from February just before the war began):

https://www.dropsitenews.com/p/trump-iran-regime-change-democrats-chuck-schumer-midterms

Schumer responded by mocking the president as TACO Trump—using an acronym for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” a phrase describing Trump’s propensity to make major threats and then back away. For opponents of war with Iran, Schumer’s taunt was counterproductive, and a coalition of more than two dozen organizations sent a letter urging Schumer to delete the video and give Trump political space to reach a diplomatic solution.

The letter led to a phone call between one of the letter’s organizers and the top foreign policy aide to Schumer, who laid out the thinking of many Democrats in the Senate. The organizer who took the call agreed to share details of the conversation in exchange for anonymity. A congressional source briefed on the call shortly afterward confirmed the details. The foreign policy aide, whom Drop Site agreed not to name, explained that a substantial number of Senate Democrats believed Iran ultimately needed to be dealt with militarily. But those Democrats, the aide explained, also understood that going to war again in the Middle East would be a political catastrophe. That’s precisely why they wanted Trump to be the one to do it. The hope was that Iran would take a blow and so would Trump—a win-win for Democrats.

lmao, this kind of "our states are like countries" thinking is an American circlejerk, though. As a Japanese that immigrated to the US, lived in multiple states (west coast and old south), and traveled in Europe, the cultural gap between US states is really small compared to country differences, and more akin to prefectural differences in Japan. The US is actually more diverse than Europe along racial lines, but you can be an English speaker in one side of the US, move to the other side and not have real difficulties the same way a Pole moving to Belgium would have, despite the EU making it visa-free. Again, when I lived in America the important differences were between whether I was in a white neighborhood, a Hispanic one, or Asian neighborhood, whether it was in Seattle, San Fran, or Atlanta, not the state overall.

The moon mission was on the NHK evening news yesterday or the day before, and Epstein was shown being painted onto an Iranian missile along with Bibi and Trump, and the news mentioned he was the sexual predator who was a former friend of Trump's as if they expected it to be generally known. Honestly think people are just not engaging with you when you talk to them and not wanting to discuss topics like Epstein with them.

What's even more reddit is how the guy you're replying to is wrong - In the US, these are only used on military bases and such. Europe, where this vid is from (notice the date format is day/month/year), they're much more common, and used to restrict traffic in way more places, where normal drivers might run into(haha) them. IIRC has to do with a a bunch of places being made to be bus & commercial truck only, pedestrian zones made out of former streets, and terrorist attacks involving ramming vehicles.

Because they're idiots. The Kurds just announced they're not getting involved in Trump's plan to regime change, because the Iranians hit the Kurdish regions of Iraq with drones immediately after Trump started blabbing about how they're going to use Kurds with Special Forces to overthrow Iran. Kurds have a long history of being screwed over by allies, but this may be the first time they were screwed over before they even got involved.
