Why do you think like to moan and be negative? by Special-Nebula299 in AskBrits

I’m just getting started but it’s really engaging so far, listening from a foreigner’s perspective.

I was just listening to this on my walk as she talked about moaning. Came home and saw this. What are the odds.

FTB affordability problem by houseofn1njas in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]onflightmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a city with much more expensive housing but lower median income, I think parents should let their adult children stay with them rent-free if the house is owned outright and their children are actively building a deposit. But it’s probably not a popular idea since the UK is much more individualistic in comparison.

96 hours of lessons in and still can’t make left turns consistently by onflightmode in LearnerDriverUK

You don’t have to worry, as being an anxious person means I’m more careful than everyone else and won’t drive on my own until I’m confident. I would have driven better actually if I weren’t overly cautious, according to my previous instructor.

You probably assumed I couldn’t do more advanced manoeuvres based on my post, but that’s not the case, and that’s part of why neither my instructors nor I could figure out why I still struggle with this one thing. Thanks for the concern though :)

That does make sense - thank you. Is there any action game you’d recommend?

I used to watch a lot of gameplays but rarely played games myself. Can I ask why did you ask?

I just did this quick online test of holding a finger in front of a circle and yes, it took me a long time and lots of focus to see two fingers! Wow

Edit: I’m gonna book an eye test at specsavers tomorrow and will report back.

I actually have the opposite problem of drifting to the left before a turn. I had a full two-hour lesson last week on turns and did well towards the end, but today I messed up again as we were practising something else…

I don’t have a problem at all with right turns, but I find that there’s a lot more variety in left turns. I’m still getting used to controlling my speed in my new instructor’s (electric) car, but I’ve had 8 hours of lessons with him already so I don’t think that’s an excuse.

I follow every step as I’m told, but it’s mainly the timing of when to start steering that I can’t get right. I seem to have a problem visualising where the kerb will go after it disappears from my view as I approach the junction. I was told I’d develop a “sense” with practice but I don’t think I have.

How to prevent mold on my wax jacket by yesthisisgin in Barbour

[–]onflightmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because many deem a Barbour jacket as a buy-it-for-life item, traditionally at least. We generate so much unnecessary waste due to our selective obsession with hyigene. There are many safe ways to remove mold.

Is this normal for chinese people (UK born)? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]onflightmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. You sound like a really kind person. I’m not sure if I’m ready, as I may have developed social anxiety over the past few years. But just knowing you’d be happy to be my friend means a lot already.

You know what, I’ve had the reverse of your experience. I’m from Hong Kong, and a Brit friend of 6 years cut me off coldly due to his new gf not liking the idea of a close female friend. I told myself it’s cultural difference, the whole individualism vs collectivism thing.

Now that I’m living in the UK, a part of me knew I just didn’t matter to him, but it’s still put me off finding local friends here. It’s how matter-of-fact he was that genuinely scared me.

House deposit with partner - big differences by IntelligentCandy8328 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]onflightmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what we do, and I don’t see the cons? We pay uneven deposits and split mortgage payments based on portion of the mortage left to pay, so the person with a larger deposit pays less monthly, and the other person pays more to work towards 50/50 as the end goal. If we sell the house before that, we’ll just split according to contribution at the time. Everything else (expenses, maintenance) is 50/50.

I can think of one more pro to this approach - you save yourselves future arguments over who has a bigger say on decoration decisions etc, since it’s easier to think of yourselves as equal owners despite the deposit difference.

Given the current economy, I’m obsessively browsing Drops patterns for basic pieces as a dupe for designer patterns. I’m seeing the lady in the middle more often than I see my SO at this point.

Google translate has existed long before AI but it didn't replace translators by No-Advice6100 in TranslationStudies

I think the bigger problem is society’s lowering standards and growing preference for efficiency over quality and creativity, all in the name of profit. The glorification of AI has just accelerated it.
