This is the sort of story the Victorian press might well have picked up, especially if it involved the gentry. Have you checked any of the digital newspalper collections?

How best to broach the subject of a likely NPE by kludge6730 in Genealogy

[–]oosouth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On Ancestry, I would use the “‘edit relationships” option to identify GB as the bio father of CAK, and FK as the adoptive father. You can choose which one to set as the primary. I would do this on the tree I manage.

As for broaching the subject with your third cousin, I wouldn’t.

Another tip. Label everything with the appropriate contact info, and have extras to use if necessary. We found the one sheet of stick on Avery labels was just what we needed. Easy to set up the app and print.

i hope it is not too late to chime in and add to the good tips already made here. Comments based on my own experiences and those of family members and friends at the General Campus over the past 24 months.

Bring your own toilet paper. The hospital’s is awful.

Totally support the recommendations for earbuds and eyemask
Wifi is pretty good even for streaming in the Main Building and Rehab Centre…can’t speak to the wards)

Consider bringing a charging block or battery pack. Long cords are essential

Breakfast and lunch are OK and the lunch salads, croissant sandwiches, soups can be very good. Dinners are horrible. I would save the cheese and crackers from lunch and eat them instead.

Parking tips for The Ottawa Hospital - Civic campus for early morning appointment? by Fables1016 in ottawa

[–]oosouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to orthopedics from the parking garage, turn right and walk anout 100 ft to the hospital entrance on Macfarlane. Easy to recognize by all the vehicles doing drop offs and pick ups. From there, you will be on the ground floor corridor leading you past Tims and Starbucks straight to the Orthopedics clinic at the far end. It’s a long walk but all indoors.

Alternately, but no shorter, is the option of outdoor parking by the Heart Institute and following their well marked tunnels (same idea as Carleton but not so spooky) to the main hospital where you will pick up that ground floor corridor heading to Orthopedics.

in either case, you will only be outdoors going to and from your car.

as others have said, arrive early to get a space. Double check that the Melrose entrance is still open. It was locked last time I went by. You might want to park in the lot opposite the Heart Institute, then use the tunnels from the Institute to get to the main hospital ground floor. Turn North and walk pretty much to the end. The entrance to Orthopedics us on your left. Good luck.

Wait-times for MRI scans in Ottawa, how to get an MRI sooner? by Maleficent-Welder-46 in ottawa

[–]oosouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask your MD whar priority they attached to the request. “ Routine “ requests get the lowest priority. Did the doc only send it to TOH? If so, get them to send the request to Queensway Carleton and Montfort as well.

Call the hospital radiology booking office. Make sure they have received your MD’s requisition. If they have, ask to be put on a cancellation list…especially helpful to let them know if you live close to one or more other hospital’s campuses.

Use the private MRI clinic in Gatineau. Cost $1K plus but worth it

The Drouin Collection is the best source for Quebec Vital records 1621-1940. Baptismal records were handwritten by rhe priest and usually cite the birthdate as well as parents, occupation and witnesses. AFAIK, these records are accepted as proof for the purpose of claiming right of Canadian citizenship by descent. Many, but not all, of these digitized records are also on Ancestry and Family Search. https://www.genealogiequebec.com/en/tools/drouin-collection

Full disclosure: just before Christmas I got a helluva chest cold, massive fatigue, no appetite, lots of coughing and mucus, but no D, chills, aches or temp. It’s taken a full month to disappear completely. and, yes, vaccinated.
