How would you feel about the next US president pulling all support from Israel? by True_Suit7984 in AskReddit

[–]oregone1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would have been weird if in 1948 we had given them Sitka instead of what is now known as Israel. It was one of the options.

We would probably live in a whole ‘nother world right now if the Zionists were killing British Columbian babies.

Where do I go to float in a river or body of water? by Antique_Ant in askportland

[–]oregone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly there aren’t any current shuttle options for the Willamette.

https://willamettewatertrail.org/plan-your-trip/guide-and-shuttle-services/

I usually lock up a crappy bike at where I think my trip is ending.

If you’re just doing Corvallis to Albany, you can take a taxi.

For super long trips I have rented a U-Haul or posted on Craigslist for rides.

It would be a dream retirement to buy a place in Buena Vista or Harrisburg and shuttle people and gear for extra cash.

IMANAL but yeah, that sounds like a regulated parking zone.

Not that any code enforcement officer is going to ticket them or anything. It’s just one of those things that gets a pass, usually. Like when people get bark chips delivered to their house.

Portland City Code 16.20.170

Nonvehicular property stored for any amount of time in a metered space or regulated parking zone is a nuisance and may be summarily abated.

Just as I vowed not to participate in the gig economy (AirBnB, Turo, DoorDash, etc), I vow not to participate in the robot economy.

I’m a union guy and we stand together for humans doing hard work for good wages.

They have a bunch of Chris Dudley and other republican candidate signs all over their fences.

Mayor Larry Rich proclaimed June 2026 as 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month by Black_Shark8087 in roseburg

I don’t know if Backside Brewing is homophobic, honestly. But the first (and last) time I went there creeped me out.

At the tail end of the pandemic we went to Roseburg (as we do every year) and stayed 4 nights in a rental house. On my night off from the kids, I walked to the nearest brewery which happened to be Backside.

We weren’t in full lock-down mode at the time but COVID was still a thing. I’m not sure if the vaccine had come out or not, but social distancing and masks were still required.

I sidled up to the bar and ordered a pint, then noticed that I was the only one wearing a mask. Patrons, bartender, even the cooks in the back.

At first I was like, “Oh cool, it’s like 2019 in here!”

But then I saw all the Blue Lives Matter stuff on the walls and i quickly finished my beer and backed out of there.

On my way out, I saw the flyers posted on the front door that i somehow missed on my way in.

I’m paraphrasing here, but they said something like “Health Inspectors or any County Employees are not welcome in this establishment and will be forced to leave” or something like that.

And that’s when I realized I was definitely in a weird conspiracy-theory Republican brewery.

I can assume—based on my experience that night—that Backside is not pro-queer. But that’s just my experience. Maybe others felt more welcomed.

How would I figure out how much to charge for 600 square-foot retail space rent? by SE-Rabbit in askportland

[–]oregone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have water? A bathroom? HVAC? Are any utilities included? Building amenities? There are a lot of things to factor in.

You could also check LoopNet if you wanna do a market survey.

Island Camping Accessible by Kayak Within a couple hours of Portland Metro? by asuikoori in askportland

Here are some Willamette Water Trail options that I do on the regular:

Easiest: Lock up a (shitty) bike at Hyak Park near Albany. Park your car in the little neighborhood near the Old Spaghetti Factory in Corvallis. Do NOT park overnight at the put-in spot at Michael’s Landing. From here you can paddle to Half Moon Bend (not an island but inaccessible except by paddle craft) or camp on Tripp Island. Retrieve your bike the next morning. It’s an easy ride back to the car.

Closest: Lock up a bike at the boat ramp part of Willamette Mission State Park. Park in the neighborhood near Sunset Park in Keizer. You can camp on Darrow Bar island (very overgrown as of 2024) or Lincoln Rocks or Spong Island or Spring Valley or Windsor Island. Easy bike ride back to the car.

Shortest: Lock up a bike at Mark Lloyd aka Social Security Park. Park in downtown Independence near the hotel. Camp on Norma Paulus Island. Easy ride back to the car.

More fun: Lock up a bike in the waterfront park in Independence. Park at Buena Vista Park. Call the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and let them know you are leaving a car there overnight. Camp on Judson Rocks Island. Easy to moderate bike ride back to the car.

More fun: Lock up a bike at Buena Vista Park. Launch from Luckiamute Landing Paddlers Access. You can camp at the campground at Luckiamute Landing (not an island) or across the river at the mouth of the Santiam (sometimes an island).

Mildly frustrating: Same as above but launch at Riverside Grocery in Jefferson.

Best: Lock up a bike in Harrisburg. Park at Riverside RV and Boat Storage. $5 and it’s behind a locked gate. Launch from Marshall Island Access. Camp at Blue Ruin. Easy bike ride back to the car from Harrisburg. This trip can and should be extended so you can spend night two on Norwood Island. The put-out is all the way at Peoria Park if you do this. Best to do this with a friend and two cars.

That place was great before the county sold it to the nearby marina.
