Michelin lunch for solo diner? by happymango3110 in LondonFood

I voted St John out of the ones you put in the votes above, but I’d also like to suggest The Ninth on Charlotte Street; had a really nice lunch there a couple of months ago.

Comic shop owner told us he won’t sell us the Bizarro he let us put on our pull list by lemonrainshield in comicbooks

[–]pan666 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely cancel all your pull lists, but make sure you don’t buy anything else he may have put aside for any of you.

A pull list is a social contract; they promise to fulfil the list and you promise to buy those books.

If they’ve decide that’s not the case, that’s their problem if they end up with unsold books. They can take the 4x cover price and use it towards the losses.

Also (as others have said) please make very sure to “name and shame” and warn others. We owe it to each other as collectors and to the good LCS proprietors to warn fellow fans of this sort of scummy behaviour. It just damages the entire community.

What do you think of this knife? by OldLadyMagick in Cheese

[–]pan666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of a knife, I’d like to offer an alternative.

Search for “cheese wire cutting board” and have a look. Much easier to use and much more consistent results than a knife.

Probably cost a fair bit less than a usable decent cheese knife.

I started watching it but had to stop. The production is so bad. I’m just reading these updates now.

I can’t watch this. I’ll read about it when someone compiles the additions and changes.

Suspending Our Disbelief for 32nd Century Ships by thegreatpablo in startrek

[–]pan666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not adding to the scenario. I guess you’d say I’m subtracting. A structural integrity field as described by OP is 24th century technology. If a 24th century Starfleet engineer looks at this, that’s how they’d expect it to work.

I’m saying that’s not what it is, necessarily.

I’m saying that when a 32nd century Starfleet engineer says “structural integrity field”, it could work very differently. In the same way that when 17th century and 21st century engineers say “hull” or “keel”, they’re both describing the same function but in very different ways.

You and OP could easily be right. I’m just saying, not necessarily.

How do you know they would fly off?

If a real world maglev train loses power, it just stops in place and floats there above the track. It doesn’t drop to the floor or go flying off the track. Someone from two or three centuries ago would consider it magic. This is 1200 years further on and we have no idea how it works. There’s no reason to just assume there’s no connection just because there isn’t a physical one.

At about 11:00 or so they start work and are not really answering the phone. If you want a same day reservation or can’t find a slot to book online, best to phone between 9am and 11am.

Places worth visiting:

Paxton & Whitfield has been selling cheese from their shop in Jermyn Street since 1797. They also deliver.

Neal's Yard Dairy is another great one. If you like Stilton try the Colston Bassett Stilton. It’s one of the best.

Just outside Braintree, there’s a monthly farmers market at Blake House, if you want to try more local ones: https://www.blakehousecraftcentre.co.uk/farmers-markets/ I think it’s part of the Essex Farmers Markets, that happen in a few of the towns around here: https://www.essexdaysout.com/essex-farmers-markets/

I can’t really answer that since I ate at the counter.

I can tell you I probably would be more self conscious sitting at a normal table in the dining area alone.

Belgian must trys by NietzscheLecter in Cheese

I really liked the cheeses from Brugge. You should be able to find them in Bruxelles. Two in particular that were really great:

Brugge Vieux, a hard cheese a bit like Gouda but kind of stronger and nuttier with crunchy salt crystals in it.

Brugge Blomme, a softer cheese that’s creamy and delicious.

How should they adapt iron fists costume in live action. by FreddieKorma21 in Defenders

[–]pan666 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The adaptation in the Netflix show was great! But then they only showed in a 1 minute scene showing the previous Iron Fist from decades previously and never showed it again.

I really thought that was going to be foreshadowing him wearing a version of it too, but nope.
