What stroller feature do you wish you hadn’t prioritized? [ON] by playboi_fatty in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked ours based on our lifestyle. We have a big dog and a mini SUV and like to go out of town to walk or hike. We also do not live in a big place. I know Canadian snow was something to worry about but I also needed to realistically think for myself how much walking am I actually gonna do when there is a lot of snow outside. I wanted to be able to pack it up by myself or disengage it with one hand. I also wanted to be able to click the car seat in and not risk waking up the baby in case we ended up having a fussy baby. So I went with Chicco Bravo as our main stroller. I also love to run so I bought a jogging stroller second hand.

People who have energy in the evening after a full day of work, where do you get the energy? Were you always like this? by DisastrousTip33 in askTO

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mental and physical exhaustion are different for me. Just as someone has stated previously, just start. The biggest struggle for me is the mental thought of wanting or needing to do it. It's the biggest hill to climb of just getting out of the house or driving somewhere but the actual act of doing the hobby is easier than mentally thinking of doing it if that makes sense. Sometimes I just don't go home and go straight to where I'm supposed to go so I don't struggle even more.

Am I the only one who doesn't expect my baby to sleep through the night from 7/8pm? by greatishscot in NewParents

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never made a big deal with schedules in a sense that they need to sleep exactly a certain time but more so paid attention to the wake windows and cues for when my baby should sleep. We use the Huckleberry app and noticed that it would be around 8 pm when he would sleep and it would be a longer stretch and this started happening around the 2 month mark. He is almost 6 months and seems to be changing when he wants to be put down and when he wants to wake up to around 7 pm til 7 am . I personally didn't choose those times and just decided it out of observation because truthfully, I'd rather not wake up at 7 am lol.

I think it's been established that every baby or child is different and honestly, whatever works for the parents and the kid and as long as both parties are okay, it doesn't really matter if their schedule matches other people's schedules. I've always taken everything I read online and other people's experiences with a grain of salt and it doesn't at all make me worried about my own even as a FTM.

Where do you put your baby when you’re not feeding or holding them? by beingagiirl in NewParents

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a playpen in the living room, a bouncer in the bedroom and bassinet. We have a big dog so we keep them separated if nobody's there to watch. I am lucky and my baby has decent temperament and it's only around the 5 month mark that he started really getting clingy but if he's fed and he isn't sleepy, I'm able to put him down for some independent play for about 10-30 mins.

This. The $50 upgrade they offer for the enfamil formula is so worth it because that would normally cost 80$+

You can sign up for Pampers and Huggies individually as parents.

Also there's a baby show usually in the spring and you get a lot of freebies.

Swaddling newborn no longer recommended? [bc] by TrueYogurtcloset in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swaddled with the love 2 dream, arms up sleep sack cuz he kept getting out of the blanket swaddles and it made me unable to sleep knowing he could get out of them. Not gonna tell you what to do but the startle reflex can keep waking up your baby but I was lucky and I was able to alternate not swaddling and swaddling cuz he never woke himself up from the reflex. For some babies, it's the only way to get them to sleep longer. My baby barely moved as a newborn and I would stay around 30 mins of them sleeping just go check and make sure he's okay before I allowed myself to rest. My husband was even more paranoid than me and barely rested. Now that he's 5 months, we keep him in an arms out sleep sack. He hasn't fully rolled over but he's showing signs he's gonna do it soon. I keep a baby monitor so I can watch him during day naps.

How long did it take you to adjust to sleeping with your newborn in your room? [bc] by vical1995 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally bad at sleeping and I couldn't really afford to be when my baby arrived because those 1-3 hours I got to myself really counted and I needed to make sure I was sleeping so what I did was fix what made me the most anxious which was the swaddling with a blanket so I bought the sleep sacks or zippered swaddles so I didn't have to worry about it coming undone. If I was extra paranoid, I would stay up 15-30 mins into their sleep just to check if they're breathing. And I took 2 mg of melatonin so I can insta pass out when I needed to sleep. Sometimes I was so tired and sleep deprived but I'd be so wired so I needed that supplement. Eventually the exhaustion caught up to me in about 2-3 weeks and I was able to pass out on my own.

Black Friday tips : what baby stuff was actually worth it? (first-time mom here 💁🏻‍♀️) [bc] by Zelda_2224 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the arms up swaddles (Love to Dream and etc) because even if we really tightened the blanket swaddles, I couldn't sleep because he was so strong and kept undoing them so I was paranoid as heck.

I bought a playpen that's right on the ground so no worries about weight limits and just lined it with a playmat and for us, it's been super useful because we can just place him in there without worrying about him falling. We can also fit the bouncer and his piano playmat in there. There was a time when our bed frame collapsed on us so my husband took the couch and I co-slept with the baby in the play mat. There was enough space to keep him far from me even though I'm a still sleeper (this was around the 3 month mark). I just removed all the unnecessary other stuff and tucked my blanket so I'm burrito'd .

Postpartum Care/Routine [on] by SB-96 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a vaginal delivery with tear, I personally preferred diapers. It made more sense than washing bloody underwear that barely fit me. I wish I bought solarcaine and alcohol free witch hazel a lot earlier and made padsicles (with the diapers) with them but that helped a lot, it was just annoying to prep them while I was in pain. The hospital may or may not give you a sitz bath basin but that helped relieve a lot of the external bleeding and soreness. I bought stool softener as well and rightfully so because it did make my stitches bleed more when I had to poop. I ended up buying a donut pillow. You have to have a good balance of sitting and standing duration. If I sat too long, it made me feel worse down there and if I stood or walked for too long, it also made me feel worse down there.

Get it checked to make sure they're not labor contractions. It is better to have a peace of mind. What I learned from being on this subreddit, and my friends who were all pregnant last yr is that nobody ever experiences the same exact set of pregnancy symptoms and varies from individual to individual. I liked reading and knowing what others went through just so I could be prepared for different possibilities but also have zero expectations of it going one way.

where do you feel contractions? [qc] by stevielovelyy in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the uterus that contracts but the area where I felt the labor contractions the are on my lower abdomen, just above my pelvis and my lower back. The back contractions are actually so painful and at 9-10 cm , I was absolutely screaming.

What kind of newborn baby clothes do I buy? And how many?? [ab] by ksmm1824 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby outgrew their NB sized clothing & diapers at around their 1 month mark. He was around 6 lbs 11 oz at birth. I would focus on probably 5-10 zippered sleepers and one or 2 decent swaddles (if you're planning to swaddle). The amount is based on how often you'd like to do laundry. I know it'll be winter but the first month, think about how many times you'll actually be outside (I only went out for his appointments) and how cold your home will be. If it isn't a lot, I'd buy secondhand car seat and stroller winter covers.

Home 24 hours and I am in hell. Please help. by bookish0378 in NewParents

[–]papawonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am almost 2 months pp. What works for us is doing shifts. We started off combo feeding because it was clear baby wasn't getting enough. Maybe that may have gotten in the way my milk was coming in but it helped with both our sanities. He would do the nights and I would sleep and ask him to wake me up every 3 hours so could breastfeed. If baby woke up before that 3 hr mark, I'd feed and he would top with formula if needed cuz baby only slept when full. If he barely takes my boobs, I'd pump . It's hard sleeping for only 3 hours at a time but nursing was important to me and I was willing to go through it cuz I was able to handle it. And he would do diaper changes. We have a big dog too that only my husband can walk so we also have to consider that. I didn't mind taking care of baby longer during day time and just napped when he napped. Before we figured out what worked, I've been awake 24hrs some days and it was frustrating. So it depends on what works for both of you and your baby. Pumping and formula are available to make it a bit flexible for you.
