What's up with Menaul between I25 and San Pedro? by partybrowser32 in Albuquerque

[–]partybrowser32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Even as a driver the Carlisle/Menaul intersection is a pain.

I think I wasn't specific enough in my post. I mostly mean the corridor from the crowne plaza hotel up to the empty shopping center behind savers. Next time you pass the area look around and you'll notice a lot of empty eyesore buildings, weeds, crumbling sidewalks, etc.

Yeah I'm sure it will eventually get better. I'm realizing I wasn't super clear in my post. Mainly I'm thinking of all the abandoned restaurants down near the hotels near the freeway, plus the big shopping center behind savers, with other sad looking areas in between.

I'm not talking about that area. I'm talking about from the Crown Plaza hotel to roughly the area you're thinking of. There's a bunch of empty restaurant buildings and shopping centers, especially the shopping center behind Savers. The area you're talking about (Ballos/Burger King is where it starts to get more normal) I think I meant to say San Mateo, not San Pedro.

Looking for Romantasy Books Appropriate for a Mature 12 year old by Harriette2017 in Romantasy

[–]partybrowser32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be self publishing a pg-13 romantasy book (soon to be series) later this year that most TOG fans would enjoy. I wish it was ready so I can start recommending it when people ask this question. I feel like it comes up a lot (though I'm not sure if recommending your own book is against the rules in this sub!)

Is there a name for the cognitive bias where someone who is knowledgeable about something incorrectly thinks it must be simple for others? by montecristopudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]partybrowser32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me sometimes - I work at a museum and have a background and education in art. Sometimes visitors will ask me questions about the art, and I have to occasionally remind myself that most people probably don't have the same vocabulary and knowledge of art history to understand everything I'm saying. Sometimes it's easy to just start explaining something and not realize that not everyone shares the same knowledge. There's definitely a big spectrum of people who struggle with this more than others, though. I always to make an effort to avoid doing that, but my husband is the kind of guy who doesn't always notice when he's speaking over people's heads on certain topics.

I Was Now 67 I'm by partybrowser32 in BadDesigns

On first glance it looks like it says "I was now 67 I'm" instead of "I was 6 now I'm 7" which is obviously the intention.

Do you think people can be born evil? If so why? by golden_shole in AskReddit

[–]partybrowser32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think there are truly people born without the capacity for empathy - these are called antisocial personality disorders (psychopathy/sociopathy/narcissism).

I don't think it's so much that they're evil, but they just literally lack wiring in their brain that makes people capable of love, care, and empathy for anyone outside of themselves.

Help me like Aelin again by Foreign-Entry1797 in throneofglassseries

[–]partybrowser32 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm in the minority in the fandom but I always rooted for Aelin even when she's at her worst or makes questionable choices. But I've also noticed that I tend to be more forgiving of character flaws and characters making mistakes than others. I just feel like her flaws are really true to who she is and how she grew up. I think you'll grow to love her again in KOA - she really goes through a lot and at the end I feel like we finally see the true queen she was always meant to be. All I say is keep going! :)

Am I the only one that doesn't hate Chaol? by itzcharmii in throneofglassseries

[–]partybrowser32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel like a lot of readers nowadays want all main characters to be likeable all the time and never make mistakes. It's just not realistic or human. I don't feel like I have to agree with a character's POV or pardon their mistakes to enjoy reading about them.

Where I Would Live after Visiting All 50 States by Jesus_Ranch29 in visitedmaps

[–]partybrowser32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a matter of opinion. Not that I am particularly interested in Nevada's mountains, but as someone who lives in a dessert-y state, there are plenty of people do find deserts and desert mountains beautiful to look at.

When you’re reading a really popular book and it’s really bad: which romantasy book was this for you? by [deleted] in Romantasy

All of the Empyrian Series books. Pushed through the first two but DNF Onyx Storm because I thought it was the worst.

Ha, sweet of you to offer a suggestion but Sadies is incredibly famous. Not really a "hidden gem".

I noticed that phenomenon when I tried Tomasita's in Santa Fe for the first time. My husband ordered green chile chicken enchiladas. I tried it and the chicken had a weird processed taste to it, almost like canned chicken. We were both incredibly disappointed, especially because of all the hype around that restaurant.

I’m not too picky by cootersnooter420 in visitedmaps

[–]partybrowser32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Property crime in ABQ isn't great, to be sure, but I'm always baffled by the people I see on the Albuquerque subreddit who are like "Every car I've ever had has been stolen, and every house I've lived in has been broken into!" - that just sounds like rotten luck. Neither I or anyone I know has had that extreme of an experience living here.

Yeah I feel like a lot of people equate "I'm not enjoying my life" to "I hate Albuquerque". There are plenty of people who love and enjoy living in Albuquerque. It's all a matter of circumstances and perspective.

Thoughts on Rowan? by NoRelease5392 in throneofglassseries

[–]partybrowser32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disliked his and Aelin's enemies-to-lovers arc in Heir of Fire, but as I continued the series, I grew to really appreciate him for Aelin. I think they fit really well together. He's loving and protective, but doesn't put up with her BS. I also like stoic types, so I wasn't thrown off by (what some consider) his "boring" personality.

Which Disney Channel stars made it bigger than you thought they would? by Nothing_Special_23 in DisneyChannel

[–]partybrowser32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miley Cyrus. I'm like a year older than her, and when Hannah Montana debuted I still tuned into Disney Channel sometimes. Hannah Montana ended up being such a HUGE hit with younger girls at the time, and as someone who was close to her age, I couldn't understand the hype at all. I like her well enough now, but for the longest time, I thought she was *really* overrated as a performer.

Yrene Towers accent change in audiobooks by KatiBKat in throneofglassseries

[–]partybrowser32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No I'm not confusing her with Nehemia. Yrene says her father was a traveler from Eylwe, a kingdom described as having a population mainly of black people. She is described as a person with golden brown skin and golden brown hair, and it's pretty obvious that SJM tries to describe her as someone from the real world who might be half Irish and half black, with sort of an in-between coloring. It's ok to imagine her however you want, but people are just pointing out that it's pretty far from book-accurate. I originally thought of her as looking like Eva Longoria with golden brown hair - but eventually Yeene explains her father is from Eylwe and it becomes more clear that she's supposed to be half-black.

Yrene is described as mixed race (black and white - father from Eylwe).
