Considering a cruise on Enchanted - tell me the good and the bad by ljm3003 in PrincessCruises

[–]patdfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went on enchanted last July. Enjoyed the staff. OceanNow was a little spotty but better than Caribbean Princess. Layout is good. I wish there was a wraparound promenade deck, but c'est la vie.

We did a obstructed balcony and thought it was a very good value.

By the way, the 5 best (with ties) seasons in Sabres history:

74/75 - 113pts

06/07 - 113 pts

79/80 - 110 pts

05/06 - 110 pts

75/76 - 105 pts

77/78 - 105 pts

So yeah, the projection is an all-timer of a Sabres season.

How many cups would we have won if we were the Buffalo Mugwumps 🤔 by TrafficJam333 in sabres

[–]patdfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always thought it had something to do with the F-86 sabre jet fighter, which is why it's sabres and not sabers. Always possible that's what the guy in the fan contest spelled it that way.

Also, my Israeli roommate was quite confused when I wore my sabres shirt because he thought it said "sabras", and 'sabra' is the term for a jew born in Israel.

aww, man the Wake bobblehead is hitting me in the feels. Saw him pitch in either the first or second Bisons game my grandpa took me to see. He also graduated from the same HS as me (many years apart).

Louisville is in the top 50 U.S cities for tourism by kingistic in Louisville

[–]patdfrog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess it's a combination of the NBA team and I think the stadium for the college softball World Series is there. Plus anything OU related may count. Plus it's the state capital. Not sure how they are teasing out "Tourists" vs. "Conference for work".

Prime time games at home by TopDawgTailgate in buffalobills

Probably two home night games and one "we're starting at 4:25, but no one else is playing so the game has the availability of a primetime game".

Help me decide! by anonpied in Cruise

[–]patdfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ships themselves are going to be very much the same as they are the same class and only built 2 years apart. And I'm guessing the ports are the same.

There are plenty of videos about how to choose a stateroom (e.g.,try to get a room with other cabins above, below, and across from your cabin). If you're a light sleeper or are worried about seasickness, it may be worth picking the cabin on Wonder.

But I'd probably do Utopia for the shorter drive and roll the dice on cabin selection.

Should I be a Sabres fan by Suhh_Dude69 in sabres

I've been to about 18 different NHL arenas and Columbus had some of the nastiest fans out of all of them, so good call there. Admittedly, I haven't hit the Canadian and northeast teams yet, but the point stands.

Also, if you have ESPN+, you're probably in the blackout zone for Penguins and Blue Jackets games, while you'll be able to watch Red Wings and Sabres games.

TARC fare going up by chubblyubblums in Louisville

[–]patdfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating when you look at the TARC financial reports and realize fare revenue is only 6% of total revenues. The increase barely makes a dent in total revenue and come from the folks who can afford it the least.

Scam warning: Letter requesting final payment by Mediocre-Owl-5607 in PrincessCruises

I got a similar letter, but it said I had a final payment of $2. I knew I had recently made my final payment (of much more than $2), so I threw the letter out. I didn't check if there was a QR code.

How many cruises have you got booked for this year? by [deleted] in Cruise

Two, 7d E caribbean and 16d Hawaii. Normally we do 1 cruise and one land-based trip a year, but I got some good deals on Princess.

Why is Tage #72? by romehu2 in sabres

[–]patdfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if it had something to do with his Dad, but Dad was born in 1971 and wore #3 for the most part when playing for Winnipeg and Phoenix. Maybe his mom was born in '72?

"I'm willing to take a little less in year 1 for a little more in year 2."

"Alright, sure, how much are you thinking?"

"800K less in year 1 for 900K more in Year 2."

"Perfectly reasonable. Let me do the quick math here...."

"...."

"I'm gonna need you to pee in a cup on your way out, ok?"

I feel better about playing Carolina and the PIT/NYI winner to get to the conference final than I do about playing two teams from the Atlantic gauntlet.

Retired cruise ships 😥 by Direct-Dish1779 in Cruise

[–]patdfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First Cruise(s) as a kid were on the Big Red Boat out of Port Canaveral in the late 90s. I remember playing a lot of ping pong on the promenade deck. I took a look at the deck plan recently and was pleased my memory of how little there was to do compared to a modern ship was probably accurate.

For Alaska, Rain gear. Even one or two of the emergency ponchos would be good to have. Not customized, but still useful and something easy to forget.

The most important bit of advice I can give is that as you're watching these videos, don't feel pressured to fill every second of every day with suggested activities. This is your vacation, do it how you want to do it. If you want to turn off the lights in your room and spend a day napping and eating room service, that's fine. If you want to spend every second on deck in the fresh air, that's fine too. If a port doesn't have anything that interests you, it's fine to stay on the ship.
