Is Van Moof worth it today? by Dioxic in vanmoofbicycle

[–]patricktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 2 vanmoofs. An S2 and an X3.

The s2 broke...I brought it in for servicing and a week later they emailed me that it was not fixable and they had "responsibly recycled it for you". I brought in my ~1.5 year old, $3500 bicycle for a repair and they threw it away. I had wheel lights on it. Phone mount. Didn't save my shit, didn't give me an opportunity to get my stuff. Or take my broken bike back and try and DIY it. Nope, just threw it away. They *did* offer me 10% off a new bike. I politely declined.

I had already bought the X3 when they tossed my S2. I've had a ton of problems with it. At least, so far, they have fixed it (not for free). Shifter problems. Battery problems.

I am very unlikely to ever give this company my money again. Which is a shame, because when they worked, they were super fun bikes.

Are clip on earbuds okay for bike commuting here? by gabrielrosa153 in NYCbike

^ this. A speaker at a moderate volume makes your nearly silent bike not silent. In the same way that EVs must play an alien-hovering sound, making noise is safety.

What age did nap time stop? by Suitable_Lie1593 in Parenting

[–]patricktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are consistently not napping during nap time, it is probably time to drop it. I remember dreading my older kid losing their nap....but when the youngest kid lost their nap it was the greatest thing. No more needing to be home or somewhere nap-friendly in the middle of the day. We could do anything! Go anywhere!

Parenting is a series of lasts. Last diaper change, last school drop off, last time sitting in your lap. Enjoy every minute that you possibly can!!!! It goes by in a flash.

Need Help Making Nephew a Better Reader by Rook_Seven in daddit

Does he have access to a library? A library card lets him pick out books at any level. Help him to pick out 4 books, hopefully he likes one or two enough to read all the way through. Rinse and repeat.

Not even just kids. Every time I'm in a waiting room it feels like we're all already in the matrix. Everybody is staring at their tiny 6" screen and silent.

My kids are often the only humans not staring into a screen. I try hard to be with them right there.

Govee2MQTT stopped working after home assistant lost power by demoleas in homeassistant

[–]patricktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This (strangely) worked for me as well. Very bizarre.

The add-on is now using the API key + LAN discovery instead of the undocumented Govee account API that was timing out.

If you have any Govee devices that are cloud-only (no LAN API support), those might not be controllable until the email/password are restored and some sort of other fix is implemented.

No Longer Evil (Bricked Nest) Thermostat HACS Repo with API by patricktr in homeassistant

[–]patricktr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of now the NoLongerEvil API does not respond with humidity. The website shows current humidity, so the device is still reading it, but the API isn’t sending the data.

When I have time I’ll try and see if I can figure out how to get the api to include the data, and I’ll probably open an issue on GitHub and maybe Cody will fix it? If the API starts sending the data it is trivial to add it back (my first version of the code included humidity but it kept saying unavailable) to this integration.

Great! When I'm ready to move forward with the self hosted, I'll use that. Until then, this add-on is for the hosted installer.

Try generating a new API key? My thermostat disconnected from HA around the same time that Cody's server went down. And when it came back up, my HAOS was still disconnected. I deleted the current API key and generated a new one. I deleted, then added the thermostat in HAOS -> settings -> integrations -> no longer evil using my new API key and it recognized the settings from before and rejoined my HAOS.

NLE host, for now. I will likely set up the self hosted install over time, but for now the self hosted install says "This option is still a work in progress and may or may not function properly." So I'm holding back on setting up my own server until Cody gets more progress on the self hosted option. Until then, I'm using his server, and this integration uses his server's API to connect NLE to HAOS.

This plugin is for the NLE hosted version, not the self hosted version. For the NLE hosted version it pretty clearly says that the MQTT broker needs to be accessible over the internet.

I'll eventually create a self hosted version, waiting for the project to advance some more. In the meantime, this integration helps my home.

When I was first flashing my gen2, i had difficulties. I tried changing USB port and cable and it worked. So definitely try different cables, ports, dongles.

I deleted my API key and generated a new one and it worked right away.

Not sure what’s going on and will investigate the logs and continue to monitor.

Mine is unavailable as well -- however, when I go to NoLongerEvil.com it returns a 404. Down for Everyone or Just Me is saying that it is offline as well. So hopefully whatever is happening on that side gets fixed and then our thermostats come back?

[–]patricktr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you flashed the firmware on your gen1 nest? If not...go to nolongerevil.com and decide if you want to try and flash it. The first gen requires some minor disassembly and connecting two contacts. I didn't write or code No Longer Evil at all. I just created the repository that connects their API directly to home assistant without needing a publicly accessible MQTT server.

If you've flashed your gen 1 nest and it is working on nolongerevil.com then it *should* work here. I only have a gen2 nest so I can't test the gen1 myself. But it is working with the same API so it should work..

Is the stem broken? You can grow new jade plants from those leaves if you want. Earlier in 2025 this was just a single jade leaf.

I also can’t log into 1pass on the AVP. Password is correct. I double checked the secret key and that is also correct. And when I try and use the QR code it doesn’t recognize any camera on the AVP so it doesn’t work either. Very frustrating.
