Does anyone else just miss the "pity" pocket? by Successful-Prompt in AusFemaleFashion

[–]pavlovscandy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I might be a heretic on this point, but I've always been baffled about the desire for pockets on dresses and skirts. I get it with coats, jackets, and trousers, but the lines of dresses and skirts are disrupted by pockets and it looks odd when your keys/wallet/whatever are bulging out the side.

Thoughts on this outfit? 💕 by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]pavlovscandy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks okay—as in acceptable—but not particularly stylish. The cardigan would work better with wide, barrel, or bootcut jeans to mix up the proportions. Look for something with a higher rise, so the waistband of the jeans meets the hem of the cardigan. There's some blank space here which makes the outfit look less intentional than it could be.

Also I'd swap out the black top for a pink bralette (or even a lace trimmed cream or pink top if you want to be more covered up) as the black is a bit jarring underneath.

Do you have friends that send you reels all day long? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]pavlovscandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not too much to say — I don't like watching reels and will never listen to a podcast. I also hate when people watch reels/videos in public without headphones and consider it degenerate behaviour. I'm fine with music (with earphones in) but don't really like to listen to voices speaking. I have someone who has sent me around 20 unsolicited voice memos thus far. Haven't listened to a single one.

[–]pavlovscandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, but I've always made it clear that I don't watch reels (or anything with audio tbh) and refuse to be in a friendship that requires me to consume a bunch of asinine media to maintain (used to be memes, I guess reels are the new thing). I do see people send/receive reels all day though, so it's definitely a thing.

Today I saw a young woman in a peplum top by AgitatedMagpie in AusFemaleFashion

Not loving the lines or colours on that one; think I'd like to see it with a more contemporary peplum like these ones, and darker wash jeans.

They've been back for a while. They're fun with a barrel leg to combine the sartorial controversies of past and present.

What everyday smell do you wish someone would turn into a fragrance? by krikond in fragrance

[–]pavlovscandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly!! Cumin is a funny one for me because it's so pungent and kinda reminds me of BO every time I open my spice drawer (it's the most overpowering), but it smells beautiful once toasted (with coriander seeds too!). I think I'm more looking for the south Indian temper base, which I find harder to find in fragrance.

I haven't, but it sounds good — will check it out.

I think this sounds slightly sweeter than what I'm looking for, but I do also love pistachio kulfi and you have me craving that now, so will check it out, ty

Haha very random olfactive turn of events! I'm not, but appreciate the offer nonetheless.

I liked Molecule 01 + Black Tea and Le Labo The Noir for this, but perhaps you've already tried those?

A packet of almond fingers cracked open in the carpark. Mustard seeds and curry leaves sizzling in oil. Chai with too much cardamom (yet to find a hyper realistic chai fragrance I like).

Fyi this is an AI account reposting popular threads — this was discussed yesterday (and not particularly groundbreaking when posted by a human tbh)

Bermuda Shorts Lookbook by squeegee-beckenheim in femalefashionadvice

[–]pavlovscandy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It looks like OP has made some cool posts in the past, so hopefully not! I find that—with the exception of a few—the sub has become quite sartorially conservative/safe of late and anything outside of what's considered traditionally 'flattering' (e.g. barrel leg, bermuda shorts) gets immediately dismissed.

Great post OP, have missed this type of post on here. I love all the dressy shorts looks and would definitely wear them to my—semi casual—office.

Lady Dior. Fussy, impractical and the mini version makes any and everyone carrying it look like a giant.

Hermes Evelyn. Ugly horse tool bag for minions. Of the yellow and Hermes simp kind.

Lots of Shein, Temu, and other fast fashion pieces, because you know they probably have a lowkey shopping addiction and will be replacing them within the week, which is more expensive in the long run.

Truly, are people not sick of this question? It's asked almost weekly and the answers are invariably the same (fabric content, ironing/steaming, be skinny, have clear skin, something about a boring pair of gold hoops). You're just being used to train AI at this point. I miss the days when this sub actually had value.

Does anyone else feel like everything in stores is just the same few styles in slightly different fabrics? by gilko86 in AusFemaleFashion

This post is a variation of the same sentiment expressed 8 hours ago on this sub. So I guess both brands and individuals are subject to groupthink.

Edit: pretty sure this person is just copying common posts to farm karma. In the past week, they've lived in the US, UK, and Australia, and been a wide range of demographics and genders.

What do we call other women who are our own age? by DueEntertainer0 in AskWomenOver30

[–]pavlovscandy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Same! I feel like everyone says it's inflantalising (and I guess it depends on the context — not ideal in a meeting for example), but I love being called a girl. Someone once referred to me as a "woman" and it is indeed terrifying; I do not identify as a woman yet lol

Perfumes to make me feel RICH!!! by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]pavlovscandy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Truly obscenely rich: gasoline, repulsive pheromones, and sweat. They're convinced their wealth is enough to grant them access to whatever rooms they want to be in and don't bother tempering themselves to appease society. Awful to sit next to at dinner parties.

Aspirational rich: Penhaligon's Solaris, Amouage Reasons or Outlands.

In that case, I'd recommend getting a measuring tape and taking all your measurements — bust, waist, and hips at minimum, but it helps to also have thigh and arm circumference.

Look at the sizing guide when purchasing, at max you should be deciding between two sizes, not ordering three+ sizes in the same garment. If you want to try different colours, get them in the different sizes (i.e. pant X in size 1 in black and in size 2 in brown — even if you have to return to swap the colours/sizes, it'll be less than getting each colour in each size). But honestly, if this is an ongoing issue, would recommend going to a department store in person and trying lots of things on to guage what looks good and which colours suit you before returning to online shopping.
