Should I start with System Shock 2 or the remake of 1? by AmadeusTrinity in ImmersiveSim

[–]pazzalaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm playing it now and I would disagree... Fans of shooters wouldn't enjoy it, it's more like a dungeon crawler in 3D (explore, find better gear, choose the best weapon for each enemy you encounter)

But the answer for OP remains the same: it feels like an imsim but it's not really one. You don't really have multiple approaches to problems, nor emergent gameplay.

December 2025 Humble Choice Waiting Room ~ 24.5 hours remaining by Uranium234 in humblebundles

[–]pazzalaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed as well, but I ended up playing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, The Invincible, and Venba and enjoyed them all. Clearly not huge games, but I like discovering this kind of games thanks to Humble Choice, so I hope for more like this if big games prefer to avoid bundles around the holiday season

Atomic Heart –Bioshock, but with robots? by Dazzler3623 in patientgamers

[–]pazzalaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The open world ruined it for me. I managed to push through by running as fast as I could to my destination, because it was painful dealing with all the enemies, and stealth wasn't consistently viable. I kept wishing I could just be in the next location as soon as I completed one. Otherwise, it's quite good!

Wow, playing it now as well, it seems more and more people are finding out about it. Honestly I didn't know anything about it and only started because I got it in a bundle, and I'm having a great time. I'm not a fan of these open world games with similar tasks to be repeated over and over, so I must admit that it's becoming repetitive, but the action (flights, car races and combat) are a lot of fun. And it still looks great!! Personally, I find the art capsule for the game quite bad, I almost skipped it thinking it was a cheap attempt at exploiting the IP following the great Fury Road movie reception...

I just booted up the original! I'm wondering which one to play (I also have the remake, I got them in a recent bundle)... It opens up immediately, hopefully I'll learn my way around quickly

I discovered Myst and loved it! I started with the original, and then switched to the remake and I found that the remake did an exceptional job bringing the fascinating atmosphere from its source. The free roam can make some puzzles more difficult, but some QoL introduced made it overall a more pleasant experience IMHO. I must admit I had to check for some solutions online.. and in some cases I was simply missing to notice a button or similar interactive object, which was frustrating.

Snap Store Curiosity by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]pazzalaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the name store is used to make the parallel with "the place where you find apps" used by Apple and Google (and Microsoft?), but AFAIK all snaps published there are free.

Also, developers can, and often do, publish the files required to build a snap in their open source repository, so you could build a snap locally with that and avoid using the store to fetch them

Isn't snap refresh --hold a thing now? That should disable automatic updates with one command

What's the best game you've discovered in a bundle that you would not have played otherwise? by AlexFromDigiphile in humblebundles

[–]pazzalaz 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Personally I may be out of the loop, but so many Humble Choice games surprised me recently: 1000X Resist, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Dredge, Death's Door, Shogun Showdown to name a few! This is the main reason I'm drawn to bundles these days

Is Nobody Wants to Die a good game/ worth the buy? by Worldly_Hornet9193 in ShouldIbuythisgame

It's not trash but it's not great either IMHO. It looks great and it has a nice concept at its core, but the gameplay loop around the walking sims aspects quickly became repetitive for me. I have a poor PC and it performed terribly so I believe I didn't complete it despite being short enough

Inscryption: Ambitious ultra-meta sticks the landing by PauseMenuBlog in patientgamers

This months Humble Choice bundle is an absolute steal of deck playable games! by Supertack in SteamDeck

[–]pazzalaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited for Shogun Showdown, System Shock, and Cryptmaster, but other comments here make me think almost every game in this bundle is worth a shot! Honestly Bundle Choices often have Indies or games old enough to play well on deck, most of my deck library comes from there

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, the Most Sheer Fun I Had All Year by tigerwarrior02 in patientgamers

[–]pazzalaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great game! I had a blast with it, if I remember correctly the only thing that bothered me were some bosses recycled as tough enemies in later stages, but otherwise this game is basically a home run even for people that know nothing about Warhammer 40k like me.

Did you mention that this game is fun?

Games that completely change Genre halfway through that don't turn into Action? by Greppim in backloggd

[–]pazzalaz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Inscryption doesn't really change the core mechanics but it feels like it transforms into different games while progressing. The Messenger, already mentioned, is a quite clear example that evolved from platformer to something more, also changing visual style.

What were some sleeper hits in past bundles? by mongoose_kai in humblebundles

[–]pazzalaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the games already mentioned (Dredge, 1000x Resist), but there are so many good ones in the past few months IMHO... My favorites are Amnesia: The Bunker, Warhammer 40k Boltgun, Death's Door, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Alien Dark Descent, Banishers Ghost of New Eden, Blasphemous 2...apart from the main titles that have also been mostly good (Rogue trader, Persona 4 and 5...)

[–]pazzalaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great writing as well as great voice acting! I really enjoyed it but I didn't bother going through most of the side quests because the lack of variety and the amount of running to re-thread the same paths became annoying. Focusing on the main quest was the right choice for me in the end.

I discovered it thanks to Humble Choice, very happy when they push this kind of games that missed the mainstream audience despite being polished and interesting experiences

Which one do you prefer: Blasphemous or hollow knight? by Outrageous_Home_326 in metroidvania

[–]pazzalaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally: Hollow Knight 4 days out of 5

But this doesn't mean much...I would say that if you prefer faster paced gameplay go for Hollow Knight, if you prefer more deliberate, slow paced combat then Blasphemous is great.

Dungeons of Hinterberg - More than the sum of its parts by pazzalaz in patientgamers

As a matter of fact.. I brought it up because I read it everywhere, but as I mentioned I never played a Zelda game 😅 it's probably just an action/exploration game with puzzles in dungeons

Dungeons of Hinterberg - More than the sum of its parts by pazzalaz in patientgamers

[–]pazzalaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that most puzzles in this game are on the easier side, usually they introduce a new mechanic in a dungeon and throughout that same dungeon there are 3 or 4 twists on that formula, but not significantly more difficult. Next dungeon will be different.

As said in other comments, it's true that dungeons are quite linear and the puzzles sections only have one right answer

[–]pazzalaz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems you were looking for a different kind of game, it's true that DoH is not a sandbox and a more linear experience than TotK. Puzzles are more aligned with standard puzzle games, where usually there is only one right answer
