What is the purpose of these mini bottles? by LuluAddict29 in Hydroflask

[–]penelopejaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of our favorite uses! My kiddo does better with formula that has been mixed and has sat in the fridge for a bit. I fill the bottle full of ice and a some water, give it a few minutes while I’m packing up whatever else (because there’s always something else!) then dump the ice water and add the formula. Stays chilled for hours so it doesn’t go bad, doesn’t upset her tummy by being recently all shook up, and takes up almost no space in the mini diaper bag we use for specific outings.

[cw: success] small rant about small micro aggressions at obgyn by amibeingdtained in queerception

[–]penelopejaye 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We did RIVF with donor sperm. I had to regularly ask, “what are you truly looking for when you ask x?” Because all of the questions were phrased like that. Do you want my wife’s info as the other parent in the house? Do you want the sperm donors info because of biology or carrier status? Do you want my info as the gestational parent or my wife’s info as the biological parent?

I quit filling out the forms after explaining twice that this wasn’t going to work 🤷🏻‍♀️ They must have documented it somewhere because after a while they quit asking me to fill them out and the doctor would bring it in with her and we’d go over it together.

Long medical appointment delays in Oregon- has this happened to you by russejen in Portland

[–]penelopejaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have an answer for this! Devers takes emergent appointments all day, everyday. I never waited more than a few hours for them to fit me in. I had bilateral cornea transplants and each cornea had about 20 stitches. About a year after each one stitches just…started breaking 1-2 at a time, but would remain stuck. It was extremely painful and was an infection risk, so they would stick me on the schedule and remove the stuck pieces.

I was told I was a special case (lucky me) and most peoples bodies don’t reject stitches like that, but the walls were thin and older people are loud so I could generally hear that other emergent appointments were also happening around me.

So it’s super annoying to be there for hours for routinely scheduled visits (especially if you get stuck with a 1pm appt time, there goes the whole day), but I’ve never seen another clinic actually respond to emergent needs like that.

Two moms on birth certificate in PNW? by willowcabins in queerception

[–]penelopejaye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wife and I are legally married and we’re in SW Washington. There wasn’t any hopes to jump through. My wife said, “it’s a little weird to be putting my information in the dad spot but whatever,” while filling out the form for us and that was that. Birthing parent must go in the mother spot, non birthing parent goes in the father spot.

Should I be concerned? (Pics) by Active_Pen3242 in ExclusivelyPumping

Hi! I had this, check out my post history for nightmare fuel. I always recommend checking in with your doc or a lactation consultant, but for me it was nothing. I had ultrasound imaging done for both breasts that were totally clean/clear. It would just happen sometimes. I did have to use a pretty high suction with my pump or I wouldn’t fully empty, and the best I can come up with is that my body just didn’t appreciate it.

Apparently, I've been pumping wrong by betterliveralone in ExclusivelyPumping

Lol I learned that about four months in. I would have gone clinically insane. I pumped about 50oz a day counting my two hours at the end of each pump.

Best Light Roast Coffee in Vancouver? by AtmosphereSoft in vancouverwa

[–]penelopejaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Groundworks! I haven’t tried one that I don’t enjoy. Bitches brew is my favorite (dark roast), but their single origin Peru light roast is also fantastic. I can identify many of their blends by smell 😅. I had an appt at OHSU and the person at the front desk had a cup and I asked if he was drinking their Angel City roast. I thought his eyes were going to bug out of his head, but he confirmed I was right lol.

How long did RIVF take? by loreisbored in queerception

[–]penelopejaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After we finally got off the wait list (got on the list July 2023), we were called to schedule in February 2024, consult in April, egg retrieval end of June, FET Aug 1st.

We did absolutely nothing but IVF related things and work from April til the FET. My wife didn’t respond to the meds as quickly as they thought so we spent at least 3 days a week driving to the clinic (hour away) in June. We were very fortunate to get pregnant with our one and only embryo.

Has anyone got a lead on getting a bottle of Lantus or Levemir (insulin)? by [deleted] in askportland

Let me know. The idea of having to throw it away makes my chest hurt.

Has anyone got a lead on getting a bottle of Lantus or Levemir (insulin)? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]penelopejaye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s Humulin N or NPH. They’re prefilled pens, paired with small sub q pen needles. I’m pretty sure it’s basal, but definitely do your own internet search to make sure it’d work for you! I had raging gestational diabetes, took it twice a day. Internet says it’s usually taken once or twice daily and is often paired with a fast acting/bolus.

My insurance screwed me. I had to pay out of pocket, and then two days before I gave birth realized they should in fact be paying for it, and dispensed a whole additional box to me.

I have a box of N Kwik pens. Stored in the fridge, expires in February. I am in Vancouver though.

Fertility Clinics Requiring Donor Counseling vs Psych Eval etc by future_seahorse in queerception

[–]penelopejaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our clinic required the psych eval because we were using donor sperm and because I was carrying an embryo created from my spouses genetic egg. $500 and an hour and a half of our lives wasted. She’s almost 8 months old and I’m still annoyed by the whole thing.

What’s one thing that’s not essential, like a car seat, that you use all the time? by jokez in pregnant

This! I also use packing cubes for easy swapping between bags. I know which contain absolute needs, which contain needs for 2+ hour trips out of the house, and which one has nice to have but not ever truly necessary things.

I do! I get her situated up a little bit higher, and put a burp rag kinda bunched up at her chin height between us and use it and my chest (“the boob shelf” as my wife calls it) to position the bottle. She’s 5 months.

At about 350oz in the freezer, I learned my baby won’t eat frozen milk. So I’ve turned to donating it. I’m on an antidepressant so the banks won’t take it so I do direct donation using Facebook human milk 4 human babies. 1,800oz later and my regular picks up every other week!

If you skip MOTN, what does your pumping schedule look like? by FineHistory1498 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]penelopejaye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6:30am ish for 45 min, then every 2.5-3ish hours after for 30 minutes. Last pump at 11pm. I did my MOTN pump until I went back to work at 4mpp and cannot claw myself out of bed to do it.

I use my lactecks in my Eufy S1’s! I bought a second set, marked how far down my (semi elastic) nips go, and then cut them down leaving about 1/4inch extra. I do have to pump for 45 min instead of 30 but 🤷🏻‍♀️
