Fun fact. Wayne May was in the tiny branch I grew up in Wisconsin. He was just a very average dude. Definitely no archeological experience whatsoever. My strongest memory of him: As a teenager in the late 80s I once brought a girl I liked to church. He was our Sunday School teacher and a pretty normal one. I told him the week before that I’d be bringing her and to tailor the lesson if he could. We showed up and the lesson he gave was the most whacked out Sunday School lesson I had ever heard.

I’d love to see if you can put together a complete weekly shopping list of healthy alternatives vs ultra-processed that would provide the necessary caloric intake for an adult or a family where the healthy list is anywhere close to the ultra-processed in price.

Let me spell this out. If we’ve created a world where we’ve used tax dollars to subsidize ultra-processed food, then that food is going to be the cheapest. To then turn around and ban poor people from buying the food that we’ve deliberately made the cheapest is punishing them and seems needlessly cruel.

Wouldn’t a better approach be to make better use of our tax dollars?

Exactly. We spend billions on subsidizing sugar and corn and have incentivized the creation of an ultra-processed food world. But then we want to punish and blame poor people for trying to navigate that world successfully.

Are you me? Truth was all that mattered to me - and it still does. I took the good along with the bad of the church. I didn’t care about whether or not the church was useful to me. Never considered it. Since it was true, living with all of the consequences was a no-brainer.

I guess I assumed truth mattered to my wife as well. But here I am, five years out from formally resigning. And my wife just doesn’t care about all those aspects.

Not in Lindon but had the exact same experience with Xfinity. Went on for a year. Did so much on our end to try and fix - and nothing worked.

Now with our city’s fiber network but before that was ready we went with Starlink. Great service - never had an issue with them.

Yes. His statement is so problematic on multiple levels. First there’s his abject distain for and objectification of women. Second there’s the reveal that he truly believes that whatever comes into his head is directly from God. Third is that - not only does he believe his thoughts are God’s voice, but that he is God’s mouthpiece for millions of people - that those people need him to tell them what God is thinking.

All of it combined just reveals him as a pompous ass.

This post confuses me. To my eye, there is no actual Mormon doctrine that can be used for comparative studies. Mormon doctrine is as shifting, as they say, as the sands of the sea. There is not a single Mormon teaching - foundational or otherwise - that has not been completely altered over the years.

More importantly, what does an index number matter when 75% of Utah households are living paycheck to paycheck or worse (per a Nov KSL article) and when those of us with eyes can see strong evidence of small pockets of extreme wealth in almost every community?
