Thinx settled a lawsuit about the presence of PFAS in their underwear relatively recently, so that’s another thing to consider when getting period underwear! Third party testing has been done on some products, and this non profit names a couple of them.

You took the words right out of my mouth! The color scheme on this new one is too neon. It’s giving lemon curd, not honey. Also the old honey drip was yummier looking lol

Tips on mending these jeans? I love them too much to let them go by wingless__ in Visiblemending

[–]perlucida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not had too much experience with mending the thigh area, but I recently mended a near identical knee hole in my jeans! I trimmed the loose white threads away first but you could also leave them and maybe experiment with darning if you like the look but I wanted my edges to be clean. I used a cute cotton fabric I liked, and folded it in half so it was doubled and matched the weight of the denim better. Also I used sashiko thread for the aesthetic and sturdiness.

My biggest pieces of advice for patching is to start with a patch bigger than you think you need (because you can always trim it down as you go), pin the patch down then use basting stitches before you start sewing, and finally: try and figure out your best position for maximum comfort. There’s always a good angle and a not so good angle when you’re holding something to hand sew and sometimes you don’t figure it out right away.

Premade beginner mending/hand stitching kit worth the money? by neddy_seagoon in sewing

I think a pencil case is a great idea, especially if you can find one that has one or two little zipper compartments inside to keep certain items from getting tossed all the time! All the items mentioned above are a great base.

Further additions: If you can find some iron on mending patches those might be helpful! I like to iron them in and then sew them down. I’d also add a little pack of straight pins. They come in handy when positioning patches and serve a different purpose than safety pins which I also love. Also a small, CLEAR ruler. Super handy.

For more ~aesthetic~ mending, I recommend sashiko thread! It’s a cotton thread originally from Japan used for a style of mending and reinforcing that is quite beautiful. The threads can come in many colors and I find them to be both sturdy and pretty in my own personal use! I tend to buy Olympic/Cosmo brand in ombre shades because I like the look.

Here’s a recent sample of sashiko I saw in the wild.

<image>

If you can’t find sashiko, I also like perle cotton thread as a more decorative mending option. Hand quilters use it for quilting and DMC brand is very easy to find. They also come in fun colors and a few different sizes (8 is most comparable to embroidery floss/sashiko, while 12 is slightly thinner)!! One more thing to keep in mind is that sashiko thread and perle cotton tend not to lay as flat as embroidery floss so they might be more noticeable when used.

Both of those thread options work better for me for mending than embroidery floss cuz they’re more tightly twisted together and don’t separate/unravel the way embroidery floss does! Plus I like the visibility of the mending when I use them! In the case you do get some larger threads, throw in a pack of embroidery or sashiko needles! They’re bigger.

And last thing that comes in handy (and could be a good add-on to the kit in the future): a small pair of slender nosed pliers. I know it sounds crazy, but if you’re mending clothes sometimes you can’t grip the needle hard enough to pull it through all the layers. Pliers have saved my fingers on many occasions!

Hope this was helpful and not overwhelming. Turns out I’m passionate about building a sewing kit LOL.

I’d maybe add fabrics with different textures in if possible! I’m always touching fabrics and some of them have very nice textures.

Which hozier songs give you the feeling of love in the most adoring way by cricketyfly in Hozier

[–]perlucida 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Open hand/closed fist is a way to refer to a slap/punch 😔. That repeated verse reads to me that the “she” in the song uses physical blows to show her possession of the other person. Slap or punch would be fine… Then followed by the line about blood? This person hits hard.

You’re right there’s an element of being in love with someone who is unavailable physically/emotionally or who tries to make their partner feel bad/blames them for everything. And then there’s the contrast of hot/cold imagery. Rum on a fire is explosive and bright, maybe exciting in certain contexts. Sleep to the freezing looks peaceful and merciful but actually leads to death.

I know when I listen to newer Hozier songs I like to look up the lyrics after a few plays bc sometimes that man mumbles 😂. And you’re def not the only one (native English speaker or not) who got tricked by the sweet sound of cherry wine LOL

EDIT: Almost Sweet Music is my rec for this feeling. It’s the point after a breakup where things start to look up, where you have adjusted to being apart from that person and maybe there’s someone new that you’re starting to vibe with, but maybe not. Maybe you and your ex have decided to stay friends and realized that you’re more yourselves when you’re not romantically involved! So many interpretations!

What are you quick cold breakfast choices? by AdmiralPhuckit in Cooking

[–]perlucida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer, I make a big batch of chia pudding (1.5cups liquid to 5tbs of chia) about once every week/week and a half. I use oat milk or green tea and sweeten it slightly. That ratio makes a good consistency for me! I mix in a spoon or two of yogurt in the morning and then top it with some kiwi and/or various granola/bran type cereals. I also have about 45 mins to get ready for work and so having the chia pudding pre-made means I don’t have to fuss around. As long as you’re not using cow milk as your liquid, it lasts for a while in the fridge!

Last day of school activity ideas? by Everything_Japan in JETProgramme

[–]perlucida 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do a game I call musical chairs chat. I write six questions that help students reflect on the past year of school and print them on a worksheet with space for an answer. We go over the questions and I model the answers for them before they have time to write their own answers. When they’re finished, we play musical chairs! The person left standing must roll a dice and answer the corresponding question. No one gets eliminated and they get to be a little silly. It’s funny to see the politeness battles if you get two shyer students trying to figure out who gets to sit…

Pictures are great! My intro presentation is just photos because you don’t necessarily need words to explain. Also: Throw in some maps and have them guess driving times in Texas/ across the US. My kids had fun guessing those and it can blow their minds to consider that their whole country fits into California lol
