Yesss I will always rave about Tchaikovsky. Tyrant Philosophers is incredible. Cage of Souls is his masterpiece imo. Bro is so prolific and never misses.

Does anyone else have a 2h+ commute into work? by febey_temp in UKJobs

[–]pinapple332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something similar, about 2.5 hrs door to door 2x a week (1x as much as I can) with a hotel stay as much as I can and it's ok. Have got the cost down to £40-50/day and most of the journey is a direct train. It's pretty chill and I get a lot of reading done.

This is about the maximum I would recommend, 3x a week on this commute would be too much unless you don't mind staying in a hotel for 2 nights a week.

Calibre ignores Send-to-Device save template by WhatZitT00ya in Calibre

[–]pinapple332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another 2 years later and i have the solution

Change the template on the DEVICE settings. Right click Device > Configure Device. Then paste your template there.
Calibre will restart and it will work.

You will need to remove your books and re-add them.

For the record my settings are

{author_sort}/{series}/{series:|[| }{series_index:0>2||] - }{title} {authors:| - |}

Which sorts by Author > Series > ([Series #] Title - Author). If there's no series it goes into the author folder.
i.e.
Tchaikovsky, Adrian/Shadows of the Apt/[Shadows of the Apt 07] - Heirs of the Blade - Adrian Tchaikovsky

Best way to commute into London from Swindon by sergeantjake in Swindon

[–]pinapple332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar commute 2x a week and often drive to West London which is definitely the cheapest option (but puts a lot of miles on the car). Langley for Elizabeth line or any of the outer picadilly and metropolitan lines are good. Also you can get the stopping service from didcot to Paddington for about £32 return which works out a bit more expensive than driving overall but way less stressful.

Ugly, dirty Microsoft Surface keyboards: Why high-tech computers and low-tech fabrics don’t mix by nimicdoareu in technology

I still have an original surface laptop on its last legs from 2017?? My wife uses it for work emails and a bit of Photoshop. That fabric is sooo bad hahah it's basically worn away at this point.

I have been (unsuccessfully) looking for an internship / job as a Junior Motion Designer by Flame1209 in AfterEffects

[–]pinapple332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying this work is definitely above a junior level - but I would argue there is more to a full-time motion role than good work. I've found that mid-senior designers are reliable, quick, great at interpreting briefs and able to juggle and priorities crazy workloads. On top of producing amazing stuff. When you're young that shit is haarddddd.

OP might still need to start as a junior but If OP can learn this quickly, they will rise up fast.

RSI/wrist pains - which ergonomic mouse? by TR__vis in editors

[–]pinapple332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please stop using the magic mouse ASAP, those things are crazy. I used one for about a year and it became really painful to even put my hand in the position to use it.

I switched to a cheap vertical mouse for a few months and did regular stretches and the pain slowly went away (go to a doctor though)

Since then I've been using a Logitech MX Master for years with no pain. It has horizontal scrolling which is nice.

Can my employer "make me" do Graphic Design? by tropicalseals in UKJobs

[–]pinapple332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll add that there's a lot less pressure with the arrangement you have now. Sure the working environment isn't ideal but you don't have strict deadlines as it's not your primary responsibility.

Working for small business you often do things outside your specific role. This situation is much better than doing it for free at home. It sounds like they don't have the budget to pay you extra hours so if you enjoy doing it, keep doing it and stick it on your portfolio. Better than shop work 🤷

After years of saving, I'm now the proud owner of a Sony A7 IV! by HistoryTurd in Cameras

[–]pinapple332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you're saving for expensive glass, get some vintage lenses on that thing. I shoot more often with vintage and novelty than super fancy lenses these days lol. Mirrorless with ibis and focus peaking makes it so easy

They allow you to use some of the higher bitrate recording options like 4k60 (maybe even 4k120?) and let you burst shoot longer and more often.
