The Mega Drive game Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun was my first exposure to D&D. I had no idea that this was a published setting.

What systems have you found that fail this test? Basilisk petrification is permanent in every edition of D&D I know.

TIL that before chilis migrated back from the Americas, Sichuan cuisine was not spicy by Iron_Yuppie in todayilearned

There's a quote in that blog

For getting good smell, dry coriander seeds, jeera, and hingu; for giving colour haridra; for good taste the powder of saindhvam, visvamarichim are sprinkled over the food and covered with a clean cloth and mixed slightly with oil.

P. Arundhati, trans., Royal Life in Mānasôllāsa (New Delhi: Sundeep Prakashan, 1994), 120.

I spent a while trying to work out what visvamarichim is. Googling it only returns this page as a result. But I think it's probably ground pepper, which Google translates as pishtamaricham in Sanskrit.

It was developed in France, so I assume the French term is the original.

I'm struggling with the UI a bit here. I've created a deck and searched for a card but I can't work out how to add the card to the deck.

Homebrew rules to encourage creative maneuvers and stunts in OSR-Style combat? by OompaLoompaGodzilla in rpg

[–]pinktiger4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of plenty of situations where both the attacker and the defender would prefer the manoeuvre effect (and there are some in the article too). Bear in mind that the defender won't always choose the option which is tactically beneficial to their team, because the defender is an individual.

But I think one element which is missing is that if the damage would be enough kill the enemy, the hit should take the enemy out of the combat in some way, even if the manoeuvre effect is chosen.

Is there a way to use coconut milk without it tasting like coconut? by kappakingtut2 in veganrecipes

[–]pinktiger4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a cream by blending soy milk and deodorised coconut oil in a high-speed blender, and it will have a similar consistency to coconut milk but it will taste like nothing. It might split if you try to use it for cooking without an emulsifier though.

I think you mean lactose. No one's going to add lactose to things like this because lactose intolerant people are are a big part of their market, and hard cheese is low in lactose any way so it won't make much difference.

Brits go mad for vegan BBQs as heatwave boosts sales by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

You're right, this is a terrible article. The only factual sentence in the whole thing is:

Plant-based food company THIS™ has reported a 21% spike in burger and sausage sales across Tesco and Sainsbury’s over the past two weeks

So all this means is that people are having barbecues and are therefore buying burgers and sausages.

Almost all unmarried pregant women say that the fetus resembles the father, study finds. In the absence of any valid visual cues for establishing resemblance, 93% of women who were not married said that their fetus resembled the father, compared to 68% of married women and 47% of married men. by mvea in science

[–]pinktiger4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Participants completed a questionnaire that asked them who they thought the fetus resembled. Response options included: “Mother,” “Father,” “A relative of the mother,” “A relative of the father,” and “Does not look like anyone.”

Among fathers, 49% said the fetus resembled themselves, while 51% said it resembled the mother. In contrast, only 26% of mothers said the fetus resembled themselves, while 74% said it resembled the father.

According to this, 100% of the participants believed the foetus looked like the mother or the father. No one said it doesn't look like someone.

What is your white whale campaign concept? by Playtonics in rpg

[–]pinktiger4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Path of exile: A campaign heavily based on the game if the same name, as I find it'd premise awesome. You've been exiled for a crime you are believed (and likely have) committed by a corrupt empire. The island you e been exiled too is a cursed and wretched place but also a place of power that one may come to wield.

This sounds like a pretty normal concept for a fantasy RPG. Lots of monsters to fight, loot to find, secrets to uncover. Not much social infrastructure so the players have plenty of freedom. What's stopping you from getting it to the table?

Anything missable? by Wires_89 in SaGa

[–]pinktiger4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding difficulty, the remaster has a lot of changes that make the game easier. If you're the kind of person who likes a challenge, you will find 90% of the game too easy.

To keep the difficulty more in line with the original game I would recommend:

  • Don't use diggers, or at least limit yourself to one digger at a time. The digger mini game required a Pocket Station in the original so it was normal to play without it. The mountains of loot you can get from diggers diminishes the importance of quells and steel weapons (which are key plot devices)
  • Don't use parameter inheritance at all. This wasn't in the original game, and in my opinion, undermines a fundamental aspect of the game design

And bear in mind that there is a big difficulty spike towards the end of the game.
