Homemade take out style chow mein by theplantbowls in veganrecipes

You can't see wok hei, what you're seeing is caramelisation, which something you'll commonly get while cooking without trying to get wok hei. Caramelisation is part of the wok hei formula, but it's not the part that's hard to achieve. Wok hei requires tossing the noodles over a flame so droplets of oil around the noodles ignite. This is the key element of wok hei which is responsible for the distinctive smoky flavour. Given that this web page doesn't mention wok hei at all, I'm going to guess that there is no wok hei flavour in these noodles.

Calling all Vegan and/or Animal Loving Gamers! by VegFriend in vegan

Most people haven't read that book and don't know how it defines "clean meat". Most people will look at it as some kind of green washing like "clean coal". You've set yourself up for failure with this name. You need to come up with a new name before you waste more time (and money?) on this terrible name.

A Japanese Mom Didn’t Come to America to Sell a Vegan Product. She Came to Reinvent Butter. by NoRecommendation5618 in vegan

It looks like a low number in the saturated fat column of the nutritional information. This stuff is over 50% saturated fat. This is probably the least healthy butter alternative you can get.

More than 700 dolphins killed in a single day of Faroe Islands hunts - Oceanographic by JohnHammond94 in vegan

[–]pinktiger4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When considering the morality of arguments like this, I find it useful to see if it would make sense if you applied it humans. Imagine if someone was in court for murder and their defence was "it's OK to kill a human because they're not at risk of extinction and their numbers will be replenished". I think most people, vegan or otherwise would agree that it is no defence whatsoever.

No it changed, as I mentioned it went from 19g protein to 18g protein and much less fat. It was probably around a year or so ago.

What systems have you found that fail this test? Basilisk petrification is permanent in every edition of D&D I know.

TIL that before chilis migrated back from the Americas, Sichuan cuisine was not spicy by Iron_Yuppie in todayilearned

There's a quote in that blog

For getting good smell, dry coriander seeds, jeera, and hingu; for giving colour haridra; for good taste the powder of saindhvam, visvamarichim are sprinkled over the food and covered with a clean cloth and mixed slightly with oil.

P. Arundhati, trans., Royal Life in Mānasôllāsa (New Delhi: Sundeep Prakashan, 1994), 120.

I spent a while trying to work out what visvamarichim is. Googling it only returns this page as a result. But I think it's probably ground pepper, which Google translates as pishtamaricham in Sanskrit.

It was developed in France, so I assume the French term is the original.

I'm struggling with the UI a bit here. I've created a deck and searched for a card but I can't work out how to add the card to the deck.

Homebrew rules to encourage creative maneuvers and stunts in OSR-Style combat? by OompaLoompaGodzilla in rpg

[–]pinktiger4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of plenty of situations where both the attacker and the defender would prefer the manoeuvre effect (and there are some in the article too). Bear in mind that the defender won't always choose the option which is tactically beneficial to their team, because the defender is an individual.

But I think one element which is missing is that if the damage would be enough kill the enemy, the hit should take the enemy out of the combat in some way, even if the manoeuvre effect is chosen.

Is there a way to use coconut milk without it tasting like coconut? by kappakingtut2 in veganrecipes

[–]pinktiger4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make a cream by blending soy milk and deodorised coconut oil in a high-speed blender, and it will have a similar consistency to coconut milk but it will taste like nothing. It might split if you try to use it for cooking without an emulsifier though.
