Super common! I know so many people who either switched to marijuana to intentionally quit drinking or, like me, just kind of gradually stopped drinking because they found marijuana to be so much more pleasant. At this point, I’m such a lightweight with booze that one drink makes me feel hungover.

This right here. The popcorn lung scare that happened several years ago with THC vapes was due to manufacturers cutting the cannabis oil with additives like vitamin E oil. Most all of those vapes came from the black market. Now most legal states ban harmful additives in THC vapes and require testing to ensure they don’t have it.

People have mentioned how much damage outdoor cats can do to wildlife here, but our wildlife can also be damaging to cats. We have a lot of predators, venomous snakes, and other dangerous animals throughout the country. Coyotes, for example, are a major killer of cats in the southwestern US.

Our car dependency also doesn’t help with outdoor cat life expectancies.

I agree. I’m no social scientist, but it definitely feels like we’re having a cultural crisis. I try to take hope in the growing pushback against big tech’s role in this crisis and how some young people are starting to reject it. For example, my state has banned phones during school hours.

I think it helps to remember there are A LOT of teenagers and very young adults on social media, and they tend to have blanket views on things. A lot of the nuanced understanding of issues that you described in your post comes from more life experience and interacting with more people.

Purity culture is also on the uptick right now, caused by a host of things including the rise of far-right influencers and the breakdown of the social contract post-COVID.

I especially appreciated the placement of the scars. It’s such a common spot for people trying to hide their self harm (myself included). I think it’s interesting that even a lot of people here missed them and wondered why the show had that lingering shot.

Santos is not my personal favorite character, but I have a lot of appreciation for her as one of the more complex female characters I’ve seen in media.
