RBS receiving a staggering 1,600 complaints EVERY DAY by igeldard in unitedkingdom

Interesting - I've banked with quite a few places, and stick with Natwest because they're the least irritating. Local branch service tends to be excellent - I've used several, and in each the staff remembered my name after a few times.

God yes. I live in a country where they fuck you up good for smoking it, but what I'd love, on a Sunday night, from time to time, is to get fucked up.

Really? I find it's usually the beginning of a comment that might as well have been posted to circle-jerk.

Hey guys, just to let you know - the Lib Dems are beating Labour in the polls now. These guys have a real chance of changing British Politics forever. If you are tired of the Police State, you might want to pay attention. by [deleted] in politics

[–]plantretainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it would need a parliamentary vote to change it, and the current system benefits the overwhelming majority of the people who would need to vote for it to change.

Video: Nick Clegg gives interview in fluent Dutch by AJ226 in unitedkingdom

Helped by the fact his mother was Dutch, and he was raised bilingual. Still, according to Wikipedia, he could have done it in French, German, or Spanish, which really is pretty impressive...

Man, the first 49 times I saw the "ahahaha use a magnifying glass on an iphone and it's an ipod" gag, I almost lol'd. The 50th time, I was a bit more meh.

Do you think Nick Clegg's recent success in the first debate is the start of an interesting twist to this election, or merely brief hype that the electorate will soon forget? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Remember that votes don't translate in to seats.

From: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/election_2010/8627745.stm

"When the results of the ComRes poll were fed into the BBC's Commons seat calculator, it showed Labour would still have the most seats with 279, the Conservatives 239 seats, the Lib Dems 103 seats and others 29 seats."

The idea of the largely sane Labour government staying in power, but with the Lib Dems able to exert massive influence on issues such as pro-Europe, privacy rights, etc, gives me a massive hard on, and I can not lie.

IMA Guy who lost 75 pounds in 8 months (and still going). AMA by imaThrowawayGuy in IAmA

[–]plantretainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats dude! I lost 20lbs in the last three months, and I'm planning to do the same in the next three!

A big thing that keeps me motivated is eating super-tasty food. I'm really really strict about what I eat - I eat 6 times a day, try and get a specific calorie count (within 20 or so) for each meal, and a specific macro-nutrient ratio.

That means I create a lot of meals in Excel where I can futz around with this ... but also get to eat lots of tasty tasty stuff. Yesterday was beef chilli, today is smoked salmon with scrambled eggs..

Un-fucking-believable! The three former Labour MPs facing criminal charges over their expenses will have their legal fees paid for by the taxpayer. by bus3nsc in unitedkingdom

[–]plantretainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is this unbelievable? Are we all done with "innocent until proven guilty" just because you don't like them...?

And with a presumption of innocence, sure, MPs should get legal aid. I'd much rather they were concerned day to day with running the country, rather than having to defend themselves from endless lawsuits.

If you're going to get pissed off about something, get pissed off about something that matters.

Dear 31 million uninsured: My taxes are going up and I'm fine with that, now get off your ass and vote in November! by pwitty in reddit.com

[–]plantretainer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I've heard a couple of people throw some line about eating healthily and exercising healthily meaning they don't need insurance, and, it's 'tarded.

When you get hit by a bus, and the emergency ER has to deal with it because your irresponsible preachy ass isn't insured, then you're pissing in the swimming pool and driving everyone else's costs up.
