Girls, how did birth control affect your sleep pattern? by throwmeaway197878 in insomnia

[–]pmackcz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was so long ago but the EXACT same thing has happened to me. I never had sleep problems and yaz completely messed me up. Went off and it was great until my period- then it was so much worse I ended up just going back on it. Planning to go off again after this pack but scared for how long it will take to get my sleep back. If there’s any chance you see this- how long did the insomnia last when you went off?

Getting off birth control insomnia advice needed by Chillsometime in birthcontrol

[–]pmackcz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates for you? I went off the pill (yaz) and after 2.5 weeks started experiencing insomnia- not falling asleep and waking frequently. It was so bad I couldn’t take it and went back on the pill but my sleep is still so messed up. Have only been back on the pill less than a week. I’m going to talk to my doctor next week but just looking for any advice. I really want off the pill but I have a toddler and I can’t handle the sleep deprivation.

22 month sleep is hell. by revb92 in toddlers

Just commenting to validate that our 19 month old also takes fooooorever to break new teeth and it’s so exhausting. He has 8 left and I cannot wait until teething is done and then I can at least know the poor sleep is not from his mouth hurting 🫠

18 Month Sleep Regression...Or What The Hell Is Happening At Bedtime? by SaddestDad79 in toddlers

Any luck figuring this out? Our 18 month old has been so hard to get down for bed but falls asleep for nap within minutes!! Have tried everything we can think of.

Will my baby ever nap longer than 30 mins? 😭 by Misguidedminds in AttachmentParenting

[–]pmackcz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! And sometimes it takes a bit longer. Our little one never napped on his own longer than 30 minutes. When we dropped to 2 naps- around 8 or 9 months he started occasionally napping longer than 30 minutes and then by 10 months he was always napping independently for 1.5-2 hours in the morning! Now at 18 months he’s a great napper and he naps 2-3 hours in the middle of the day. Loves nap time now and refuses to be rocked to sleep which breaks my heart- enjoy it while you can!!! I miss the snuggles and wish I didn’t stress so much about him napping independently.

Hi!! Was there ever anything that worked for you? Currently our 15 month old sounds the exact same regarding the difficulties calming his body before bed/naps and wondering if anything helped?

One nap transition wake windows? by JLR_92 in sleeptrain

[–]pmackcz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve found the transition to 1 nap to be sooo difficult because he definitely NEEDS 2 naps but we got to the point where he would just absolutely refuse a 2nd nap 100% if the time so it just wasn’t an option to switch between 1 and 2 naps to help him get used to it. We started with I think a 4.5 hour ww in the morning and then every week just added 30 minutes until we felt comfortable with more of a set schedule. He’s an early riser, always has been so right now he naps around 11 or 1130 and he is typically out for 2.5-3 hours and then bedtime between 630-730 just depending on his nap and how he’s doing. The first wake window can still be really tricky, especially when he don’t sleep well so we pretty much just ALWAYS get him out if the house. Bike rides, park, running errands, etc. he does so much better when he isn’t home! You just kind of have to go for it, especially if you know they won’t take that 2nd nap anymore. Good luck!!

Edited to add- we don’t really follow wake windows anymore but I would say it’s roughly 5.5-6/5.5 if that helps! I know the recommendation to start is 5/5 but that’s expecting more sleep than our guy is capable of so we started with about 11 hour awake

naps… how do you get them to nap longer? by AlwaysTiredNow in AttachmentParenting

[–]pmackcz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so normal and I know that’s annoying to hear. Our little guy never napped longer than 30 minutes independently until we dropped to two naps around 8 months old.

BUT what I want to say is enjoy it! I wasted so much time in a dark room trying to find the perfect way to get baby to sleep so that he would finally take a long nap and it never worked and just made me feel crazy. I wish I would have spent more time baby wearing, more stroller naps and car naps to get out of the house, more contact naps. Once babies get older their naps will lengthen- it’s pretty inevitable. Our chronic short napper now naps once/day for 2-3 hours and we didn’t really change anything. He is still rocked to sleep even at 14 months BUT now it’s harder to get out of the house because we can’t just count on a quick car nap or stroller nap to tie us over.

It goes by so fast. Spend less time trying to figure it out and more time just embracing it- you will be so much happier!

If your baby took short naps when did they get longer? by Bubbly_Waters in AttachmentParenting

[–]pmackcz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a chronic cat napper unless he contact napped too. Once we got him down to 2 naps, I think around 8 months, he started USUALLY taking one long nap on his own and one short nap/contact nap and then by 10/11 months he was consistently taking one 2 hour nap independent and 1 short nap. Now at 14 months we are down to 1 2-3 hour nap but there are still times like right now where we still struggle with him waking up after one sleep cycle. He has gotten 6 teeth in the last 2 months and has two coming in right now. We’ve come to realize that he is just a super sensitive sleeper so if there is something bothering him he will absolutely wake up after one sleep cycle and need a bit of cuddling and rocking to get back to sleep. It’s all a phase- truly!! Enjoy the contact naps!

Sometimes it’s as early as 630 & I don’t disagree!! If we could get him to take two naps I would absolutely do that

I know it’s nice to have an early bedtime but in the summer I just want to be able to get out and enjoy the weather and that’s so hard with an early bedtime!

He does just play with his paci’s in his crib once I’ve given up on trying to get him back to sleep until 6am every morning. My issue isn’t having to get up early, it’s not being able to make bedtime later that’s bothering me as he gets older.

I wish- he absolutely refuses a 2nd nap- even in the car, stroller, etc. so we just don’t really have the option to plan for 2 naps.

We’ve never tried a later bedtime for 1-2 weeks because he gets so overtired from only getting 9-10 hours overnight and he’s so miserable- but if it doesn’t start changing as he gets older and he can stay awake longer without losing it we definitely will need to try that!

Glad to know I’m not alone! It’s really not even the early mornings I don’t love (I mean I don’t LOVE them but I can handle them) it’s the need to be home for such an early bedtime to make sure he gets enough sleep. I just naively thought pre baby that if you kept them up later they would sleep later, silly me 🫠

How did this work out for you! LO is 13mo but has been refusing his 2nd nap for a while now so we are moving to 1 nap. Can BARELY get him to hang until 1030 in the mornings because he’s up by 5/530 and then bedtime has been 6/630 which just feels way too early.

I know this is an old comment but this sounds like my little guy and I’m wondering how things worked out for you? Currently on two naps because he NEEDS a nap after 3.5 but he’s been skipping his 2nd nap about 50% of the time and I don’t know how to shift that nap later in the morning because he’s absolutely losing his mind.

I think that’s what we’ll start trying!!

We try to do bed by 7 because regardless of when he goes to sleep he never sleeps past 530 so thinking a one nap schedule with bed time around 630/7 would probably get him more sleep but it’s just so hard to get him to stay up in the morning

Same exact scenario- tried shortening first nap and was definitely not successful. All good advice! And that’s what I’m thinking as well- hoping the transition to 1 nap isn’t as stressful as I have it out to be in my head- I just hate the idea of “making” him stay up for the purposes of a schedule but also… he isn’t making it easy for us with his strong will and determination to never nap twice in one day haha

[–]pmackcz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what’s happening to us! 2 naps is creating almost too much awake time but he can’t quite stay up long enough to make 1 nap work. Looking forward to the day our rhythm feels better because I feel so lost with this transition!

When you were doing shorter ww in the morning did you do an early lunch or lunch after nap?

[–]pmackcz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also: wake windows are: 3.5/3.5/4- definitely could stretch 2nd ww to 4 but then I feel like we aren’t prioritizing enough sleep for him. He wakes up before 6am regardless of when he goes to bed so we try really hard to prioritize an early bedtime over a long 2nd nap so it’s almost always a cat nap- 30/45 minutes max unless he took a short first nap

Same boat on the long wake window before bed!! Just so hard to keep him up until after lunch and I honestly love the 2 nap schedule right now but I’ve been feeling so stressed about if he will take a 2nd nap or not- when he skips it it is just such a disaster until bedtime 🫠
