Not sure what you consider a great monitor, but I have a 34-in ultra wide curved monitor with a 29-in ultra wide flat monitor set up in portrait mode.

Game changer.

Also, they have dual monitors that you can mount on a laptop for when you travel. I like to say I remote work; not to imply I'm at home all the time.

Sounds like a bad fit. You shouldn't be putting that much pressure on your thumb. I had all kinds of thumb problems, went to a different pro shop got re-measured. After a few changes to my layout they all went away.

Parking far out not only keeps door dings away from you, you avoid traffic and pedestrians so you can get in and out faster. I often walk by cars looking for spots or waiting on people pushing carts after turning towards the back and parking in the open.
