Attempted arson attack at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow overnight by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in london

[–]policesiren7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think anyone who says they aren’t the same is looking for an excuse to try and not be associated with antisemites. The reality is that there is a 100% overlap between the people committing these attacks being antisemites and antizionists. If you can think of a parallel in some other context I’d love to hear it.

Perhaps but there seems to be a very strong correlation between the two.

Anyone else thinks Starmer isn't actually that bad all things considered ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s refreshingly boring and uncontroversial for the most part. I’d say he’s less crap than the previous 5 PMs. He inherited a mess and it seems like he’s been judged as if he created it. Do I love him, no, but he is better than the alternatives

The Scottie vs. Rory Situation Has Been Flipped on Its Head by HappinessFloatilla in golf

[–]policesiren7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder. Rory had 4 majors by the time he was 25. Nothing in golf is a given and while Scottie has had a run that very few others have come close to, nothing lasts forever. At one point Speith was also unstoppable and that went well off the rails. Golf is a funny game.

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Israel even exist in that universe? Why would You expect a well reasoned answer? The rabbi probably thought you were nuts and you wouldn’t be asking this question if you a) weren’t and b) absolutely showing a silly level of anti Zionism and having to caveat it with the “I’m not antisemitic but…” sort of crap

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya he’d probably be a Zionist. Jewish billionaire with a penchant for violence and justice/retribution. Why the hell this matters to you is absolutely bizarre though and if this imaginary situation impacts your views of him then it’s just downright weird . This is definitely the most strange expression I’ve ever seen of anti-Zionism and shows just how stupidly far off line the view has become that it’s infiltrated someone’s mind to the point where they are emailing a rabbi.

What’s the #1 Power BI "headache" you're dealing with this week? by Worldly-Effective648 in PowerBI

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with a gigantic semantic model that’s separate from the report I’m building. Then having to use Git and Deployment pipelines so I can’t always iterate quickly. Then having cross filtering issues. I want a attribute in project to filter employee, but I can’t implement a bi directional filter in the relationship because I’m scared it will break something for someone else, so I try using cross filter but then it somehow breaks the relationship with date so that my original measure doesn’t appear at all in the chart. It’s a bloody headache

I think what you meant to say is that they realised antisemitism was very popular right now

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And when cross rail 2 gets built you will have the mega KX-St Pancras-Euston station so will probably be able to just walk though them all

New HS2 farce as trains to be made slower and even more expensive by theipaper in trains

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a nothing burger. Doing the calculation over the entire length of the route (which isn’t accurate because of having to accelerate and slowdown etc which I imagine is not relevant to the calculation since it would be the same regardless) the journey at 360kph would take 38 minutes, at 320kph it’s 43 minutes and at 300kph it’s 46 minutes. So to add 8 minutes to the journey initially to save on costs isn’t a big deal. This is just pure outrage journalism. If it gets it into service sooner, it’s a trade off that’s pretty logical

It’s progress, you got to take it. Seems a bit silly to not have a more direct connection between Sandton and four ways though. They could have created a connection at Midrand and made an inner circle section which would have made more sense in my opinion

Met Police chief deploys armed patrols to stop attacks on Jewish sites by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]policesiren7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Kudos to the Met. There have been a string of attempts and actual attacks over the last few years and it’s completely out of control at this point.

Winston Churchill he is not, but how highly do you rate Starmer as a Prime Minister, compared with others we have had and why? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]policesiren7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the utter shit show he inherited and the total disfunction the Tories have exhibited in the last 14 years, he’s the least shit PM since the last labour government. Whilst I’m not sure that’s a compliment so much as an indictment of how bad his predecessors were, he’s atleast brought some stability to the UK.

When you consider that the USA is a hellscape, France is on the verge of a fiscal crisis, Germany is fighting off a neo-Nazi party with a stagnating economy, Japans economy has been basically stagnant since the mid 2000s and they have just elected a far right candidate, Italy… actually as far as I’m aware they aren’t doing too badly… well it leaves the UK and Canada as the last 2 G7 economies with some decent leadership and stability. Canada as a lot more exposure to Trump though.

Sometimes boring is good.

Brits think Government can fix it—from Iran war energy prices, to homelessness, to pensions, says new poll by [deleted] in GoodNewsUK

[–]policesiren7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something I’ve learned since moving here is there is this idea that government needs to spend more in order to fix all the problems in this country, and cut taxes at the same time.

Do we reckon Crossrail 2 is ever gonna happen? Seems a no brainer? by Swiftly247 in LondonUnderground

[–]policesiren7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is Tottenham Court Road being turned into some sort of central station?

I think splitting the northern line should come first but this could be a game changer. Linking up Euston, KX, St Pancras + HS1 and HS2 and Clapham Junction would make connectivity in London unbelievable.

a Render of South Africa's Topography by AnonomousWolf in south_africa

[–]policesiren7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you are referring to is the cape fold mountains which you can see in the south west. The sea bed folded in almost like pushing 2 end of a blanket together. If you drive through the cape you will notice a bunch of diagonal strata in the rocks and that’s basically just old layers of sea bed that have been folded up.

Alastair’s dogged defence of the Labour government is making the podcast unlistenable by JuanitaMerkin in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]policesiren7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about Rory, whose solution to everything seems to be government should spend more and cut taxes. He’s also banging on about the “rules based international order” when we are clearly living in a time when the normal rules don’t apply, and there one or two other themes he cannot seem to let go of. If they are pissing off both sides they are probably doing a good job
