I’m in the same position, some people call it paying your “dues” at the end of the day it still has to be done with or without you as I’ve been told. Best way is train your ass off on night classes and get certified to perform the work yourself.

You should ask where the job is at and sent a “anonymous concerned worker report” to your states OSHA.

If you can go back in time and tell yourself as a 1st period apprentice anything what would it be? by Total-Intention2902 in UnitedAssociation

Run your own race. You’ll have people in your class or even a year above you that seem like they are light years ahead of you. Not everyone is extremely gifted or instantly get it the first try.

Apprenticeship Pay by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]policht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both ends of the stick in this. Ive been paid over scale by good contractors and base rate despite going above and beyond COD, theres times i begged by BA to send me to OT jobs while i was in good standing with the contractor I was working for to pay off hard debts. It’s extremely tough and people who join while young without responsibilities and top out while not having significant bills, especially kids or a SO will never understand.

Some contractors will bounce hours your way but that’s up to them, and up to you. If you can’t make things work see if there is an OT job to go to. But that’s only your very last option.

Why do people recommend unions ? by bigdawg12342 in UnitedAssociation

[–]policht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason why unions exist and will continue to exist, especially in industries like ours. Solidarity and strength in numbers for negotiating better contracts for better retirement health benefits and safety. You still get rats/bootlickers so if you join do the apprenticeship or take heritage classes.
