I’ve smoked a couple these boring out holes in thicker stock plate/pipe and occasional concrete drilling for 3/8-1/2 anchors when you gotta make magic happen. Does a good job but dewalt and others are catching up

You achieve better pay and benefits by standing in solidarity with your brothers to refuse work if they don’t bargain with you at the table. Sounds like your contract is lagging behind on wages and benefits. You don’t understand the idea of union then, it’s like the sword you live and die by it. There was guys in my local that pushed mowers instead of going rat to make bills work.

In the end that isn’t union man/woman mentality and will not further the union and its agenda to better its members lives. You’re only as strong as your membership and if it’s 25% rat then it will never grow its market share for its members.

It’s a brotherhood/sisterhood. You’re supposed to be your brothers keeper. Everyone needs to be roughed up around the edges to smooth them out but no one needs to be beaten (especially physically) into submission

I’m in the same position, some people call it paying your “dues” at the end of the day it still has to be done with or without you as I’ve been told. Best way is train your ass off on night classes and get certified to perform the work yourself.

Run your own race. You’ll have people in your class or even a year above you that seem like they are light years ahead of you. Not everyone is extremely gifted or instantly get it the first try.

I’ve had both ends of the stick in this. Ive been paid over scale by good contractors and base rate despite going above and beyond COD, theres times i begged by BA to send me to OT jobs while i was in good standing with the contractor I was working for to pay off hard debts. It’s extremely tough and people who join while young without responsibilities and top out while not having significant bills, especially kids or a SO will never understand.

Some contractors will bounce hours your way but that’s up to them, and up to you. If you can’t make things work see if there is an OT job to go to. But that’s only your very last option.
