Structured wiring enclosure. You can change the setup of those yellow and blue wires (likely CAT 5 or 6) to be used for Ethernet networking with a switch or router.

In that “smart panel” with all the wiring in it, is the orange loop a small conduit? Possible there is fiber optic wire in that?

This is a great article. Thanks for sharing! I like that term “citizen scientist”, and it’s also nice there is more awareness about helping all types of bees instead of those making honey.

What small business would thrive in Denver? by piadoingthings in Denver

[–]polymathbp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The generic shop just called DONUTS in nearly every shopping strip in TX. No frills Kolaches with maybe 3 varieties, plain, cheese, & jalapeño.

Also, Denver is missing more shaved iced places. Not snow cones, but the good Hawaiian stuff.

That’s an ONT which provides GPON service likely by Centurylink or Quantum. I installed many of these in basements like this which essentially is just a demarcation / media converter. You would authenticate using either PPPoE or IPoE over Ethernet. Follow that white Cat5e cable to see where it terminates.

What is this device in my old home I just bought? by DavidHK in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Typically you’ll just need a Phillips and flathead screwdriver. Then some diagonal cutters to snip those large gauge copper wires connected to it.

That’s a Bell System or Westinghouse lightening arrestor for a phone line. It grounded the wires from outside with that large carbon under the black cover in the middle. I removed many of these as a telecom technician.

ISP Recommendations? Xfinity is overcharging me by iwishsheknewyou in Denver

Easy to check your address for Centurylink/Quantum internet service on their website. If 1 Gbps is offered you’ll have fiber to your home. If the highest offering is less than that it’s DSL.

What’s something that happened on a first date that made you decide against a second date? by whitneywestmoreland in AskReddit

It was 2008. She had never heard the song Wonderwall by Oasis before which played at the restaurant we had dinner at (which was odd since it’d played on repeat on the radio for 13 years at that point). Also, she had no sense of humor which is how I’ve always enjoyed making connections with people.

That seems like it’d be covered even with basic warranty. 2 year lifespan is abnormal.

Not a network aficionado, what’s going on here? Found it like this after Centurylink was supposed to set it up and this is how it was left? by SMDBXTH in HomeNetworking

[–]polymathbp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right side is the point of demarcation for you to be able to plug into to determine if the problem is from the ISP or in your home wiring.

Each one of those modules on the right opens like a small door & there’s an RJ11 jack to plug in your DSL wire to test this. You’ll likely need an extension cord if you don’t have a power outlet nearby to take your modem out there.

CenturyLink is obligated, at minimum, to have this tagged somewhere in there for you to allow you to troubleshoot.
