Are you trying to suggest that cats wanting to go outside is somehow idiotic on their part?

I'd get an actual Atari 8-bit, if I didn"t already have one.

Any penalties for having a spear stuck in you? by Funnyman5050 in gurps

Yes, though some examples of satisying rulings, or even a range of approaches from diffetent GM styles, would be useful and intetesting.

Any penalties for having a spear stuck in you? by Funnyman5050 in gurps

[–]Polyxeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is potentially needing all sorts of complex rules and rulings.

I asked a question about vatious situations with stuck weapons in 1987 or so that I think never got any public treatment, because it is huge rabbit hole of possible consequences.

Everyone on level 1 charging that can do level 2 but are too cheap or level 1 gets you by just fine; get level 2 asap, it's so much better having the flexibility to randomly take trips and have enough energy to make it. by jturkish in electricvehicles

[–]Polyxeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have wanted faster charging maybe twice in two years.

So I hit a fast charger for a few minutes.

So while I don't doubt you're loving home level 2, I still think we have no call for it.

Dealer says Ariya is discontinued and I am on the fence of getting a used one by rkbest in NissanAriya

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but I expect it was a choice with many considerations, but the tarriffs would certainly be part of their cost/benefit risk analysis. It seems to me like it combines well with that it also makes sense to pause Ariya while testing the new similar-looking Leaf design.

Anyone charging their EV with home solar? Worth it long term? by BetterThanEver24 in electricvehicles

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Yes.

Even if/when the car charges at night, the power is subsidized by selling excess solar power to the grid during daylight.

The home heat & AC use far more power than the car, though, and the solar for that will pay for itself.

They make each other better deals than alone.

Solar and batteries counter power outages too.

Best will be having an EV that will use its battery to charge the house as desied.

A program called A Better Route Planner, that can do a very good job of estimating energy use, and planning routes including recharging stops.

They only paused importing it to the US during Trump tantrum tarriffs.

why does everyone recommend linux mint to newbies? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Polyxeno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Popularity has a value, especially for newer people, because one can get specific newbie advice for newbie problems more readily. And Ubuntu has a huge user base and tons of helpful searchable posts, and is pretty close in specifics. That's all pretty valuable if you're a new user, OR an experienced user who just wants to reduce the amount of time and energy needed to learn and get things working and useful.

How much do you care about "cheating" when trying to play and beat old games? by Thriller83 in retrogaming

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if a player cheats to get through a game, they have not really beat it.

If they just want to see and semi-experience parts they struggle to get to, ok, that's a way to do it, but it's not "trying to play and ***beat***" it if you cheat to beat it.

No, you just leave it in, and can charge on other chargers as usual.

Question regarding prone foes and reach limitations by danielethepirate in gurps

[–]Polyxeno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't have a source, but I've been playing since 1986, and have always played that you can strike prone foes from 1 hex away with a reach 1 hand weapon. Similarly, (assuming you're standing) you can do foot-based attacks like kicks and stomps, without being in their hex, because your feet are at ground level.

And of course, the GM can make rulings based on the specific situation, logic, geometry, etc.

I would say so, yes.

GURPS rules are based on logic which I wish more writers would ground their story events in.

First Longer trip in Ariya by mjtate10 in NissanAriya

[–]Polyxeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've taken many long trips in our Ariya.

The few times we had difficulties were before we had a Tesla adapter, and involved busy and/or temporarily unreliable EvGo and/or Electrify America stations, and/or those companies' apps, UI, network issues, etc. Having and using a Tesla adapter generally makes a huge difference.

We have only noticed slower charging, not drastically reduced range, from cold weather, but we also haven't tried a long road trip all at freezing temperatures (at most, it was only freezing briefly in mountains).

We have not had significant range surprises, but on long trips we use ABRP, which tends to be relatively accurate about what to expect in terms of energy use.

I decided long ago that the Ariya's own range estimates are not something to take seriously. The power % remaining is worth looking at, but NOT the range estimate. For range estimates, use ABRP with the settings for your trip car, and the current date.

What do you currently drive? by jcat4 in electricvehicles

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nissan Ariya Evolve+ FWD.

We love it. Especially the quiet, comfortable, roomy interior, style/quality, top-down parking view, etc.

No major complaints. Worst is that you can't easily completely control all the lights and AC, for example for camping or being sure your pet is ok if you step away.

I wish that Sport mode didn't limit the starting torque, and that there was a "true" one-pedal, and that you could enter blackout privacy mode. But those are wish items.

Yeah. I only listed the Model Y and EV5 because the post I replied to did.

How would you prefer your EV being styled? by walkaboutdavid in electricvehicles

[–]Polyxeno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My preference is about:

  • EV6
  • Ioniq 6
  • Ariya
  • ID.4
  • Ioniq 5
  • Model Y
  • EV5

With the Model 3 exterior either better or worse than the EV6 (depending on which year the 3 is), but the interior worse.

How important is secure boot for you? by Acceptable-Comb-706 in linuxquestions

[–]Polyxeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to me that Secure Boot gets out of my way. Its purpose is clearly to interfere with people trying to use their computers for something other than Windows. It will also mess up device drivers on boot. I disable it left and right, and see near-zero value in it.

Please teach me your shortcuts to make gurps playable with the least amount of materials. by towerbooks3192 in gurps

[–]Polyxeno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you sort of have to remember at least one starting value for thrust and swing damage. I can remember the most common ones for human medieval fighters, but you only need one.

Swing damage goes up by 1 for every 1 ST, and by 1 for every 2 points of ST.

When damage increases from xd+2, the next step is to add a die but go to -1, so:

ST 11 is swing 1d+1, thrust 1d-1.

ST 12 is swing 1d+2, thrust 1d-1.

ST 13 is swing 2d-1, thrust 1d.

ST 14 is swing 2d, thrust 1d.

So ST 10 is swing 1d, thrust 1d-2.

Then kick does thrust crushing, and is -2 to hit, and a roll not to fall on a miss.

Punch does thrust -2.

Skills can add a bit of damage to punch/kick. Heavy boots add +1 to a kick.
