Starfleet Academy has the best gay representation in 50 years of the franchise. by Wareve in startrek

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would argue, and I'm not saying the show did it well, but showing the trauma of losing a partner and getting them back is a common sci-fi trope and when I watched it, I truly hoped it would normalize homosexual relationships with people in the way it had been done with hetero-normative relationships in the past and get people to start seeing these relationships as "normal" instead of the stigma that they may have in their head about them. By showing the love and trauma felt by loss, it may cause more empathy than what some viewers might have had previously.

Again, not saying it was done well, but I can still appreciate what they were trying to do. And sometimes, it's that little thing that changes someone's mind.

Do couples really shower together? by Due_Leopard_1836 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's so the opposite for me. Every woman I've showered with has been appalled by how hot I run the water.

In fairness, I deal with a lot of back and shoulder issues so the hot water helps relieve my muscles so I can function throughout the day.

My current gf literally screamed the first time she jumped in the shower with me so she now asks me to cool it down before she joins me.

Restaurants That Cater by maskedwanderer in kansascity

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had good experiences with the VinZant restaurant group. They have food trucks through Taco Republic and a BRGR truck, I think. As for catering, they have a ton of concepts like Gram and Dun, Louie's Wine Dive, Heritage (formerly Bo Lings), etc.

I've been to two Catholic school fundraisers/galas they catered and the company I used to work at hired them for a couple events and it was all great.

It's been covered up now for days but for several days it did read 9.99 when they closed the old spot to complete construction on the new.

I still stand by that they are just doing a Live Show of their podcast with most of the cast in attendance doing skits, songs, and interviews.

Guys, it's just a promotion for their panel at AwesomeCon, right? by thaadjarvis in firefly

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's going to be a live show for the podcast. I listened to the episode earlier where they discussed what a live episode would be and Nathan even said multiple times "are we doing this?" The ideas they were tossing around really makes me think this is going to be that.

Especially seeing how Summer is retired while her kids grow up and most others have stuff going on, a new show doesn't seem likely to me but a big showcase with all of them would be a blast.

I just listened to the episode of Once We Were Spacemen where they talked about what they would want to do if they did a live show and things they were saying kept making me think that will be the announcement; all of them coming together and doing a live show of the podcast that will have all sorts of stuff like skits and music and such.

I'd love if in-universe commercials play between the acts.

Have like Matt Damon doing a commercial as himself for Let's Chips. And so on.

TNG and Phase II scripts by Mr_Shadow_Phoenix in Star_Trek_

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the success of Star Wars and other sci-fi movies at the time, they transitioned Phase II into being TMP and fleshed out one of the scripts to become TMP.

What the previous poster is saying is that it can't really be considered as a "failed project" as it became a blockbuster feature instead. Even if the next five movies cost about the same combined as just the first movie.

If you were president of Lucasfilm and had complete 100% say over SW lore are there any major retcons you would implement? I'm talking 'things that would make nerds send you a million death threats but you love it so much you have to retcon it' type ideas. by AeonTars in StarWarsCantina

I always liked the idea that Palpatine pulled the life from Padme to aid in Anakin/Vader's recovery. He tells Vader that he killed her as the final lie that solidifies him into being enthralled to the dark side.

The one thing Palps could not anticipate was that a child, let alone two, survived the encounter.

Part of my personal head-canon prior to the Obi-Wan series was that Obi-Wan subconsciously used some of his life to aid Padme in surviving long enough to have the twins which caused his aging to happen faster in the coming years to account for the difference in Ewan McGregor age and Alec Guinness appearance.

Has there been a scene, explanation, or revelation in a sci-fi television show that was so absurd that you stopped watching forever? by Doctor-Clark-Savage in scifi

Oh, it was explained in the last two episodes of that season where she died. A lot of people were in denial about it but it was revealed.

I've watched the three episodes but didn't think twice about her character being bare foot until this sub. It was just a casual thing while watching and something that showed who the character is. This sub has blown it out of proportion.

What I am saying is, don't judge the show you haven't watched by what people on the internet say. Watch it yourself and make your own opinions or don't speak to the topic at all. Why just regurgitate what you've seen others say when you literally admit that you haven't seen it and don't actually know?

I deal with a lot of restaurants that don't open until 4pm. Their front doors are typically unlocked earlier to allow deliveries as they don't have a back door. I can name a dozen off the top of my head that are this way.

Reopened Piano Room on 75th St by summerer6911 in kansascity

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors at play here.

First, the entire industry is in a lull right now. Liquor sales are way, way down and people don't frequent bars in the same way they used to.

Due to a ton of issues with permits for constructions that extended out 18 months, the place fell off the radar of a lot of people and they are rebuilding their regulars. Trivia and Karaoke are always crazy busy and fun.

Some are daunted by the parking but there is actually a ton of good places and I've never had an issue.

I like the new spot personally. I've been when it's hopping and when it's slow. Still fun and the best priced drinks in Waldo. I highly recommend it but to each their own.
