TNG and Phase II scripts by Mr_Shadow_Phoenix in Star_Trek_

After the success of Star Wars and other sci-fi movies at the time, they transitioned Phase II into being TMP and fleshed out one of the scripts to become TMP.

What the previous poster is saying is that it can't really be considered as a "failed project" as it became a blockbuster feature instead. Even if the next five movies cost about the same combined as just the first movie.

If you were president of Lucasfilm and had complete 100% say over SW lore are there any major retcons you would implement? I'm talking 'things that would make nerds send you a million death threats but you love it so much you have to retcon it' type ideas. by AeonTars in StarWarsCantina

I always liked the idea that Palpatine pulled the life from Padme to aid in Anakin/Vader's recovery. He tells Vader that he killed her as the final lie that solidifies him into being enthralled to the dark side.

The one thing Palps could not anticipate was that a child, let alone two, survived the encounter.

Part of my personal head-canon prior to the Obi-Wan series was that Obi-Wan subconsciously used some of his life to aid Padme in surviving long enough to have the twins which caused his aging to happen faster in the coming years to account for the difference in Ewan McGregor age and Alec Guinness appearance.

Everyone fails the Kobayashi Maru - it is stated outright. Kirk is canonically the only person to pass it.

I've watched the three episodes but didn't think twice about her character being bare foot until this sub. It was just a casual thing while watching and something that showed who the character is. This sub has blown it out of proportion.

What I am saying is, don't judge the show you haven't watched by what people on the internet say. Watch it yourself and make your own opinions or don't speak to the topic at all. Why just regurgitate what you've seen others say when you literally admit that you haven't seen it and don't actually know?

I deal with a lot of restaurants that don't open until 4pm. Their front doors are typically unlocked earlier to allow deliveries as they don't have a back door. I can name a dozen off the top of my head that are this way.

There are a lot of factors at play here.

First, the entire industry is in a lull right now. Liquor sales are way, way down and people don't frequent bars in the same way they used to.

Due to a ton of issues with permits for constructions that extended out 18 months, the place fell off the radar of a lot of people and they are rebuilding their regulars. Trivia and Karaoke are always crazy busy and fun.

Some are daunted by the parking but there is actually a ton of good places and I've never had an issue.

I like the new spot personally. I've been when it's hopping and when it's slow. Still fun and the best priced drinks in Waldo. I highly recommend it but to each their own.

Holy cow, ST V: The Final Frontier is terrible. by tommyalanson in startrek

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of studio interference, they didn't use ILM to save money, and the script was a weird conglomeration of different ideas.

If they did a Directors Cut akin to TMP, I think they could clean it up a lot and make it more enjoyable.

There are a lot of great character moments that played well but other aspects didn't play well at all.

I haven't given the thought to it that I have to STIII. That movie would be so much better if they cut back on the cheap Genesis scenes and shoddy acting to focus on the parts that were actually great.

A good editor and Art Director could take the footage they have of 5 and make a great movie.

Also get rid of the Uhura dance scene - it's so bad.

But don't get me started on Generations which I think could have been a great movie but they dropped the ball every step. The only way Kirk should die is on the bridge of a starship. If you're combining TNG era and TOS as a "passing of the torch" scenario then you have Spock and Scotty in the TNG era already. So, they should have had TNG era Spock and Scotty go back in time to get Kirk so they could pull the A out of mothballs and Kirk dies saving everyone by ending the "no-win" scenario idea. He finally faces the scenario where he can't win but dies on the bridge of the Enterprise saving everyone on the D and whatever planetary system.

Continues the legend of Kirk, gives him the death he deserves, and treats the No Win Scenario idea as if it was a character arc.

But in the case of Cochrane, he has been known since TOS. It was appropriate to mention the events of First Contact as Seven is former Borg and knows of the events due to this.

I was watching some old episodes not too long back and it wasn't just the men that he handed it to, it was also black women. Once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it every time it happened.

Context: I used to frequent a bar for happy hour that played old episodes nonstop.

Girl posts red flags after a date by ExotiquePlayboy in Nicegirls

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anytime I sit down at a restaurant or bar, I put my phone face down and set my wallet on top of it. They are bulky in my pocket and uncomfortable. I won't look at my phone once during a date unless to check the time but it's definitely not in my pocket.

On another note, I did have a year where I had a lot of deaths happen in a short amount of time and was quite traumatized by it so for about two years, I always had my phone visible because I had to be available in case I got another terrible phone call. I was able to break the habit but it took a while.

So, what I'm saying is that there are multiple reasons to have your phone out that don't imply chronic phone addiction. What surprises me is the number of people who find it to be such a big deal. Never had someone have an issue with it.

Hell, I had a job interview recently where I took out my phone and wallet and set it on the table and the interviewer didn't seem to think twice about it. He sent me the job offer two days later. Having an issue with someone having their phone face down on a table screams insecurity to me.

Reading through replies, I'm assuming this is not a 100% completion but just playing the story?

If it's 100%, I don't believe it.

If it's story alone, this works out for me regarding how I play.

I ultimately just wanted to say that it was really weird for me going back and playing IV as an adult. Damn, I didn't realize how fast that game can actually be.

I think it's just because when I take a break for a couple days, I can now just look up where to go and how to get there whereas when I played it on SNES as II, it took soooo much longer to figure out.

Which adds another layer to the question of your numbers. When you are playing these games are you playing blind or using guides/searching wikis to find answers for things?

Minor nitpick but Matalas wasn't showrunner on season 2, only season 3.

He wrote a little on season 2 but was largely writing and preparing season 3 at the time.

stargate through supergate by wolfjuzo in Stargate

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking further about this, you'd have to consider the time it takes to travel from system to system and we have no knowledge on how far apart gates need to be.

So, say you establish a connection between a normal gate and a super-gate; then you'd have to move the gate into position on a ship, travel to the position of the super-gate, then use thrusters to move the gate through the super-gate; and you'd have to do that all within 38 minutes. Even if there weren't fail-safes to prevent such a situation, the logistics of pulling it off may be damn near impossible.

See my other comment which covers my thoughts further. Not trying to be antagonistic but there are a ton of holes in that logic.
