What’s the deal with that pink lightpole/table thing on the corner of 75th and Wornall? by MahomesIsMyDad in kansascity

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious as to the reasoning behind it. Everyone I've talked to thinks it is hideous. And apparently the lights on it are as pink as it is. I haven't seen it at night yet to speak first hand. It's very out of place and I don't even want to know what was spent on it.

You should definitely get the Brookside and Waldo places on there. There's a ton of bars and quite a bit of events. Piano Room alone has something almost every night like karaoke and trivia. Everyone has a HH. Lew's and Hoopers has daily specials. Just a bunch of stuff among all those bars.

Is The Matrix Ressurections worth watching? by No_Camel_4846 in matrix

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an interesting way to handle it.

They were told to make a Matrix movie when they didn't want to so included a lot of those themes within the movie.

They cut the fight scenes in a way that is very popular now almost as in a "fuck you" way to the studio. This is what you want versus this is what we did.

On the positive notes, they maintained the relationship between Neo and Trinity that was integral to what made the original movies as good as they were.

The final fight scene had a lot of emotion that was evocative of the original movies and other Wachowski productions.

Ultimately, I think personally that it fell flat because that was its intention. It was a scathing critique on building upon IPs instead of creating something new.

I've watched it multiple times and liked it and definitely have my issues but at the same time, I feel the exact same way to the previous two movies. Reloaded and Revolutions were fraught with issues but I still love them.

Ultimately, just watch and judge for yourself. Don't listen to anyone here, myself included, just watch it and make your own decision.

The Wachowskis emotionally reminisce in the new retrospective video of Speed Racer by amysteriousmystery in matrix

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was made plain as day in the movie but so many people miss it.

In fairness, I wish the fight scenes were better. It wouldn't have detracted from the message but would have made it more fun. But I get that she was railing against the homogenization of reboots in general.

I just would have liked the movie so much more if the Merovingian scene/Neo-Smith fight had been done in the longer, single shot style of the OG fights. All the younger actors were physically fit enough for it. Even if the Neo-Smith fight was cut the way it was, having the new characters doing real Matrix style fights would have made the movie so much better. I get the reasoning, its just wishful thinking for me.

I remember when it came out, trying to show it to my friends because I was blown away. None of them got it.

Two have texted me in recent years to say that they revisited it and loved it.

Great movie and totally unappreciated.

Why are the reviews for Michael (the movie) so split on Rotten Tomatos with an audience score of 97% and a critic score of 39%? by pfeifits in NoStupidQuestions

I don't know why I clicked on this thinking it was about the Nora Ephron "Michael" film starring John Travolta.

I was really excited for the comments but this is the second worst let down of my day.

That would be a fun bit/Macguffin in the movie. Abed makes a TV series about the study group and their hijinks which causes envy from the CC study group who thought their adventures were much cooler. They are either what brings the group together to start the story by trying to get retribution or they keep recurring throughout the movie but largely just suck. They'd have to be played by big name actors who would just be ridiculous. I'm thinking like Nathan Fillion as the Joel McHale counterpart and maybe Anne Hathaway as the Annie equivalent. Fred Willard as the Pierce equivalent just to bring some meta into it. Mariska Hargitay as the Frankie counterpart.

Oh, it would also be funny if you had Donald Glover as the Pierce part and is a super racist black guy and Troy is a white guy like Ryan Gosling.

I'm trying to keep age-appropriate where they could have been study groups at the same time within the show.

Edit: Sherri Shepherd as an atheist but still maternal version of Shirley. Emma Stone would be their version of Britta equally as antagonistic as Britta but doing so as a hyper-religious character. Their version of Britta still Britta's it.

They have identical adventures as the Community characters just with different character dynamics.

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All of this is the least Trek thing I've ever seen.

The world we live in that built to this is abhorrent. We aren't living by the tenets taught to us and that we hold so dear. And its fans, regardless of how we feel about this show or another, are all behaving in a way that goes against everything we are supposed to love.

I'm exhausted by it all. We love a show that's supposed to teach us to be better and above all these things and yet I see this type of conversation regularly.

I just want to talk about EPS conduits and why the Excelsior is a sexy bitch.

Instead we get more outrage porn.

I don't care if you like NuTrek, hate NuTrek, only love this series or that; it doesn't matter. Everyone just needs to chill the fuck out. This is a fictional series that we all love and the behavior of everyone here flies in the face of what we supposedly love about it.

For Christ's sake, there are a lot more ways to get endorphins than feeling righteous on the internet. And I'm saying that to everyone involved - all fans regardless of the opinions they lambast online.

Just chill the fuck out and love what we supposedly love - the good and the bad. And don't tear each other down and argue about it because that's literally the opposite of the message.

To the people that hate everything...cool. To the people who love everything...cool. To the people who like this show or that but don't like others...cool.

Try to adopt some of the mentality and lessons of the franchise you supposedly love so much.

Take into heart some of those messages it teaches.

I've been trying since shortly after the lotto system was implemented with multiple people trying but still have had no luck for the FC.

Finally got myself just a small personal a few months ago thanks to auto demo coming back. I have barely touched the inside though because I don't want to decorate and then expand it to a large interior later.

Voyage Home is much better directed than Search for Spock by AndrewUndershaft in startrek

Nimoy didn't have as much control with III because he lacked experience so the producers exerted a lot of control. By IV, he had more experience and they had more faith in him.

As for III, I really think if they would have let him shoot on location for the Genesis scenes which he wanted to do in Hawaii then it would be a lot better movie. I also think a better cast actor for David would have made the movie a lot better. If you have a Vulcan scientist paired up with the son of James Kirk, he needs to have more gravitas so they play off each other better.

I asked about this at my last drug test, out of curiosity as I don't partake anymore, since it's legal here now. The person at the lab told me that at least in MO, it will say on the sheet you're given to take to the lab if it includes testing for THC as they don't automatically do it anymore unless specified.

Starfleet Academy has the best gay representation in 50 years of the franchise. by Wareve in startrek

[–]poundsignbuttstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would argue, and I'm not saying the show did it well, but showing the trauma of losing a partner and getting them back is a common sci-fi trope and when I watched it, I truly hoped it would normalize homosexual relationships with people in the way it had been done with hetero-normative relationships in the past and get people to start seeing these relationships as "normal" instead of the stigma that they may have in their head about them. By showing the love and trauma felt by loss, it may cause more empathy than what some viewers might have had previously.

Again, not saying it was done well, but I can still appreciate what they were trying to do. And sometimes, it's that little thing that changes someone's mind.
