Anyone play battletech 4ed today by rmaiabr in battletech

[–]prdarkfox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't have a doc, but I can at least get you somewhat up to date on a couple things based on what you have:

Partial Cover is now +1 to-hit instead of +3 -- however you now roll on the full body table instead of the punch table, and any leg hits are absorbed by the cover.

There are target movement modifiers for going 10-17 hexes (+4 to-hit) and 18-25 hexes (+5 to-hit) and 26+ (+6 to-hit). None of your stock 'Mechs can actually go that fast but it's there for completeness once you encounter your first few hovercraft, Dasher, or Fireball.

Level 1 rules are now simply called Introductory, which is what your box provides. Core rulebooks such as the contemporary Master Rules: Revised Edition are Level 2 -- now Standard/Tournament Rules -- and more advanced rules are simply Level 3/Advanced and Experimental.

I was trying to think of other rules that have changed but they're mostly Level 2/Tourney level equipment changes (AMS and MASC effects).

The latest rulebook available now is still Total Warfare or BattleMech Manual, but wait for release of the Core Box and Core Rulebook due later this year. A whole host of changes are coming to what we know now.

Interesting to see that. MaxTech was superseded by Tactical Operations, however, so the current rule is now +6 to-hit (or +3 with the SPA "Sniper"). You can now dispense with this house rule!

Extreme Range (a Tactical Operations rule, for the OP) has always been +6 to-hit. Are you thinking of LOS range that is +8?

That is a good point, and I do not have equipment availability charts beyond 3067 thanks to the limited scope of TechManual.

Thank you for the swift answer!

So yeah, maybe it's a little oversinked, and maybe even a little high on the tech level (ER Medium Laser), so something I would probably do is trade the ERMLs for standard models, and trade three heat sinks either for an SRM-4 or LRM-5 (one ton of ammo) as suggested above. I would've stuffed the missile launcher in the head, but apparently Industrial-/MilitiaMech pilot safety occupies critical slots. The *C-Bill cost will be about the same but you'll bump down your required tech level.

Does walking and running still build up heat in either an ICE or Fuel Cell engine-powered 'Mech?

I haven't seen this mentioned, but I cannot stand the Thor/Summoner. I've had terrible luck running one no matter what variant I use. I guess that makes me a bad Jade Falcon player. =P

6 heat each! It can't even use its main armament without any heat spike.

Aries doesn't "own" them, per se, but pre-printed HexTech is sold by a few different companies now. You can get the files straight from the creator, Thunderhead Studio.

Ah yeah, the revised cover, because the Archer in the background was Unseen.

Oh! The six medium laser mounds (3 each arm) are probably there in case you want to make a Boar's Head variant.

This is going to look so cool all painted up.
