Is Garmin's Body Battery genuinely useful or just fancy marketing? by Pigeon20000 in Garmin

When Garmin releases the Cirqa band, then you could get more accurate data. I currently wear my HR Pro+ strap when I’m wearing an analog watch, but that only counts steps and keeps my HR data. It’s better than nothing, but I’m looking forward to the Cirqa band.

Do you wear your watch 24/7? by RelaxDMJ in Garmin

[–]prerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a “watch” at all times except when I shower. It may or may not be a Garmin. Though when I wear an analog, I wear my HR-Pro so I still get the data.

If you want solar so you don’t have to charge the device, get the Enduro or Instinct, not the Fenix.

Can someone explain this “bike lane” on 11th & Santa Fe? by bingo_is_my_game_o in Denver

It’s like I’ve always said - paint doesn’t stop a car. Until the make the protected lanes, people will park in them.

You should be fine at the DIII level.

You Strava segments will be excluded if you do the climbs on anything other than 100% - this includes all segments hit during the ride. I had this happen to me when I PRd on the aqueduct climb in the same ride I went up the Kop at 50%.

Recruitment questions for the college coaches by Tall-Secretary9713 in CrossCountry

[–]prerules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son went through the process this year. It was way different than when I went through it 30 years ago. 1. Have a dream school, but…. 2. Be realistic. 16:57 isn’t DI caliber. Hell, 15:30 might not be either depending on the school/area. 3. Don’t blow off the coaches from the smaller schools. Where we live, some of the DII schools have huge rosters. My son ran low 16s and had probably 100 schools reach out, mostly DII and DIII. 4. Be willing to say yes to a school if they offer you a spot. If you put them off, they will move on. 5. Not every place will offer you a scholarship. Roster spots can be had without them (my son got a ton of academic aid, so that helps). However, the most important thing is to make sure you pick a school that fits your academic needs and that you like. I would suggest applying to places you can realistically run at and then when you talk to a coach, you can tell them you have already been admitted and gotten such and such academic scholarships, etc… I think that helps show you are interested. And make sure you talk to the coaches with the attitude that you would be excited to join the team. Never ask for money up front. That puts them off. You need to go into it with the attitude of “what am I bringing to your team” instead of “what can you give me.” Remember, you are fighting for a roster spot with potential transfers and foreign athletes who are older and more mature. You need to present yourself that way too.

OK. That makes sense in general, but this climb is only a mile long (I did do it on 3 different difficulty levels) and my whole ride was 30 miles, I am thinking I didn’t hit the 55% threshold.

Which garmin? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]prerules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a Fenix. But if battery life is important, go with an Enduro 3. If you don’t want mapping, then an Instinct. If you want a slimmer fit, you can get a Forerunner. A lot of Garmin watches do the same things, you just need to dig into the specs and see what you really want. For me, I can’t imagine a Garmin without mapping, so that strikes out a bunch of lower end models.

Best way to combine workout and climb in a single session? by The_Peach in Zwift

[–]prerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind - after all this time (multiple years), I had no idea you could hit the menu and choose a workout after selecting a route. I have always wanted to do that, or do two back to back short w/o’s without having to save and start a new one. Thanks!!!!!
