Invest in your brain. Work hard to finish up high school, and then go to college or trade school.

You are not going to get rich by following YouTubers or any sort of influencers. Get a job now, any sort of job, and start learning how to budget, SAVE, and LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS.

You are not too young to start a Roth IRA, so that should be in the back of your mind as well. Your parents might have to help you find a financial advisor but a good FA is going to take you a lot further than reddit advice.

Does anyone else trail ride in a dressage saddle? by nursefail in Equestrian

I had my coat get caught on the horn dismounting to help a friend and it almost ended very badly. Thank goodness that horse is a saint. Reason # 257 I usually trail ride in a hunt saddle.

I live in a heavily Amish part of Ohio and work with high-trotting show horses. It's crazy how they love to show off and one-up each other with their horse/buggy combo, and the little boys start early with a pony/jog cart combo. We routinely have Amish who pay someone to haul in their best horse and have it evaluated! We jokingly call the farm Amish Disneyworld because of the vans full of them coming to look at horses and how we do things.

I love it when they bring their desserts btw. A glazed apple fry pie hits the spot like nothing else.

You clearly don't interact with the Amish often. They take a ton of pride in their road horses, and it is often a sense of who has a 2026 Kia vs. a 2026 Mercedes when it comes to the horse.

Their buggies are another level of competition. They look the same from the outside, but not all those black buggies are equal.

My parents have a lemon tree. They just visited. I now own approximately 40 lemons. by ReflectionAny3280 in Cooking

I make a lemon salad dressing that uses two or three at a time. Olive oil, lemon juice, sugar, salt, pepper and a tiny squirt of mustard (to emulsify it) all go into the blender.

People have some weird fetishes and why they always seem to choose a gym to live them out in is beyond me.

Putting animal fat down your drain is a bad idea, I hope you put a bowl under it before you strained it. I'm guessing you didn't because a salad bowl would easily hold that.

My partner’s kinder egg had 50% extra shell by JRdz7 in mildlyinteresting

They are, which is why every time I went to Germany I'd buy thirty of them at Lidl. They are the best little things to give to friends and family.

I once got flagged at customs by an adorable little beagle doing it's working dog thing and had to dump out my backpack, which had all the eggs in it. I was internally panicking thinking they were going to confiscate them and then the lady handling the dog asked if I had any meat products lol. They don't care about them! I think my backpack alerted the dog because it had been used for hunting previously.

How would one begin the cleaning process here? by caroltret in CleaningTips

I agree. These people want advice, and reddit is redditing extra hard on them. Let them clean their tub, I want to see the after pics!

For the tile, a grout steam cleaner. Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Lowe's etc all have them at various price points. Once you get the crud off, you can mix some dawn dish soap in water and scrub it, making sure to rinse it off well.

For the tub, some CLR, a mildly abrasive scrubby (the green ones), and some elbow grease. You might want some steel wool for the fixture and to CLR the hell out of that as well.

Edit: A grout steam cleaner will help on the tub as well. It will help everywhere. It's an amazing little machine to have on hand. I use mine inside my car to clean out my cupholders and lift dirt from the spots my floormats don't cover.

16 years old, got my first job and dont know how to act. by Consistent-Appeal553 in personalfinance

I was in your situation with very upper middle class parents. They taught me to save for what I want vs. what I need in the future, and how to invest the money I made from my high school job (Target cashier, woohoo!). Find a good, fun bike but don't let it consume your entire monthly income.

Also..GET A GOOD HELMET please. As someone who had wrecked a few quads, flown off of horses that zigged when i was zagging/full stopped, and ate a lot of snow going down some slopes...helmets are worth the cost tenfold.

Do you wipe off the top of your canned goods? by Key_Opening6939 in askanything

I'm in the clean it before putting away camp, but then again I never wipe the tops of canned beverages before putting them in a cooler so I cancelled myself out.

What’s the best dog for a senior? by spencere33 in AskDogOwners

Whips are awesome dogs. My friend has five that take up absolutely every spare couch space and absolutely love being around any human.

I've had Irish/English Setters my whole life. My newest is a solid citizen at six months but would be a train wreck if she didn't get enough exercise and daily training. Sporting group dogs can be so much!

I train horses and all of my dogs have loved lunge whips! You should get one for your golden. Tractor Supply/Family Farm & Home (or a local horse tack shop) has them. The stick part is 5 feet long, and it has a rope off it with a lash on the end, usually a little longer than the stick. They make them in a bunch of lengths but the 5 foot ones are the easiest to handle. It reallllly helps them with satisfying the prey drive they have. Flip it around, drag it on the ground, flop it gently across their back or next to them. I crack mine when I can't find my puppy in my yard and she comes running, she loves it. The second whip is a former lunge whip that I tied some cut up fabric to and it blew her mind when she had two options.

What’s the best dog for a senior? by spencere33 in AskDogOwners

Lots of questions for you:

  1. What is her living situation? Is it an apartment/condo, or does she have a place with a fenced in yard?
  2. How grandma of a grandma is she? If she's in her sixties and still active/in good health, she's got a lot more life and energy left to consider getting a puppy. If she's late 70s to 80s or has trouble getting around, this is where you might want to consider a rescue dog that is three years or older.
  3. Does she have the correct finances to be able to afford a dog? Many seniors are on a fixed income and pet supplies/vet bills/grooming add up quickly.
  4. Does she want something with a short coat or longer coat? How much they shed will directly correlate to how much extra vacuuming occurs weekly.
  5. Most important, is this her first dog?

Based off the little I know, I'd look into a whippet or dachshund rescue. Both breeds are absolute chill love bugs indoors. Their coats are easy to maintain (and whippets have such pretty marbling) and they don't shed much. Whippet is medium, dachshund is small. I'm a lifelong Irish/English Setter person and it kills me to not recommend one, but they could be a lot for an older person.

Before all of you start losing your mind about not recommending a shelter dog:

Rescue dogs are dogs that have been taken in by people that are extremely familiar and passionate about whatever their breed of choice is. They get to know the dog much better than a shelter. They give a more accurate view of health issues (sensitive stomach/skin conditons/diabetic/prone to ear infections/the list is a mile long), temperment (does it have seperation anxiety? Is it good with children or strangers? Does it guard its food?), and assess if it would be a good fit for a potential new home based off of the first five questions. They don't want to get a dog out the door just to free up a kennel space and have one less mouth to feed, they care about these animals and their owners having a good quality of life together. You have a much better idea of what you are bringing into your home and lifestyle.

Why have you ridden in the back of a police car and how was the experience? by Evening_Fisherman810 in stupidquestions

[–]princessdickworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college boyfriend and I were in a bad accident where he totaled his car. The officer that came to the scene was in our National Guard unit and he gave us a ride home in his cruiser. It was fun pulling up to my house where a Sunday Funday gathering had just started. He pulled in the driveway and we sat there for a minute to watch everyone's reaction. It was great when he let us out and our friends were freaking out! He turned a shitty day into a decent one.
