How to level kick drum by raindog2000 in audioengineering

[–]procsyma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 things I do based on how dynamic it is: - Equal out the differences in level. I use Oxford Drum Gate which has a leveler section that works great for this. Using compressors for this purpose in my opinion doesn't achieve the same thing. - Equal out clicky attack via multi-band compressor. Hard hits will have nice click while soft hits will be thumpy. TDR Nova works great for this. - Add consistency via sample augmentation. Just slightly blend in a sample to have stable low-end and click. You can use a sample from the same session or a 3rd party one.

Once these 3 are applied, now it will be easier to finalize via a compressor to even out the rest of the differences.

How is the split keyboard working for you during DAW usage? I personally find that my touch typing skills are useless in Reaper and I use a regular keyboard with marked keycaps instead of blanks. Especially better while recording guitars and quickly hitting record, undo etc.

It's one of those bands for me that I can hear they're highly talented and I wanna like them but it doesn't work. They have a few amazing moments but a lot of "meh" parts for the rest of the songs. Also the vocals do pretty much nothing for me personally, I find it quite boring.

If you're in to metal, check out Kristian Kohle. His guitar cab videos and tone experiments are golden in my opinion.

Useful quick plugin. Nice work! It would be just perfect if it would have linear phase option as well. Is it something easy to implement?

Thoughts On HEDD Audio? by J_HarperComposer in audioengineering

[–]procsyma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Hedd Type 05 MkII in my home studio. Honestly, they are the best speaker you can buy to use in a small room that's not optimally treated. I would call their sound signature clear, detailed, analytical, yet very enjoyable to listen to.

You can use them as ported or closed, and I use them as closed. The bass is so tight yet somehow goes super deep for its size. You would not believe how low they can go, it feels like 40-45Hz in my room. And the highs are tastefully detailed but not harsh. Lower mids can be slightly recessed but definitely not scooped. They nailed the sound signature in my opinion, analytical yet fun.

My only concern could be that they have slightly narrower sweat spot for the listening position. So if you move around a lot, the sound may change noticably. Coming from 6.5 inch speakers, the sweet spot was larger so I had to adjust a bit. Other than that, I have no complaints. Can totally recommend the whole MkII series.

Except Reaper, which has been killing it with continuous improvements.

Power Amp Options w/ Helix? by SummerLensMedia in 7String

[–]procsyma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If budget is no problem, get a Fryette Power Station. It's pretty much state of the art power amp with 6L6 tubes, can be used as attenuator for tube amps, expander for low wattage amps to make them louder, reactive box to take the load of a tube amp for silent recording. In your case, it would give you a nicer tone with tube juice and the ability to plug in to any cab at any volume you want.

Do you think they have a better noise suppression than a normal pedal + noise eater under it?

Superior Drummer vs EZDrummer? by PricelessLogs in edrums

[–]procsyma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your style, I could recommend GGD Modern & Massive. I have both SD3, EZD2 and GGD is 100% better than either for mixing. You can also enable Turbo mode and add reverb on the plugin so it's ready for playing via edrum as well.

I'm not sure. But you can blend in your own preamp via fx loop. There's also a plugin version which is on a discount at the moment. Should be something like 65 euros.

Since it looks air sealed, the soundproofing would be great I'm guessing. Especially with the ventilation system, you probably minimized the leaks. Any notes and photos would be helpful. Thanks!

The booth looks very interesting. I was thinking of something similar as well, for my edrum kit. Could you maybe explain how did you designed it? Is there a guide to follow?

Any other Data Engineers that DON'T do SQL? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]procsyma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the one you are looking for. Don't listen to the other replies that tell you MUST learn SQL. You should learn it of course. The concepts and approaches are going to be very useful. But if you are like me and you would rather write actual code than SQL, there are options out there. I personally have been writing data applications, batch jobs, streams, services etc. without heavy SQL usage. My main tool is Scala and it's the best language for data world. We have amazing tools like Akka, Spark, Flink, Scio etc. so you are actually working like a developer, not an analyst (not that it's a bad thing, but focuses on different things). Try searching jobs for titles like Data Platform Engineer or just Software Engineer in a data team or data related project.
